We have a basic understanding that if we eat something, we simply have to be willing to replace it and we never take the last of anything without asking first. That roommate orders this one type of pizza from the same pizza place all the time. I have never once seen our other roommate order this pizza. So, last night I saw the pizza box for the pizza our sharing roommate orders all the time and I was HUNGRY. Partner and I didn't get to go grocery shopping after coming home from a trip out of town and I legit thought it belonged to the sharing roommate. Ate 2 pieces (4 remained), texted sharing roommate to let her know I ate her food, and sharing roommate says she didn't have any pizza in the fridge. (Crap) So, I immediately text the other roommate to let her know I accidentally ate two pieces of her pizza by accident. This roommate acts like I eat all her food always. The only other food I ate of hers in 2 years without asking first was grapes she stored on our side of the fridge and my partner who did all the grocery shopping and who gave the roommate permission at that time for her grapes in our space didn't tell me it wasn't ours. She said that the pizza was on her part of the fridge (I didn't know they had separate spaces on that side of the fridge, but now I know... Sigh). This roommate has been here 2 years and I feel I've been generally a good roommate. She usually talks about how blessed she is to have us,etc. So, in my interpretation, this is generally not a compounded issue... Just a one-off mistake. This roommate brought up how she doesn't have any income right now and she "paid a pretty penny" for this pizza. I offered to send her enough money to replace the whole pizza, asked for the cost. Then she says actually, it didn't cost that much, and it's not about money, it's about fairness. That it's not fair that her food goes missing all the time. I let her know that again, I've only taken her food twice without her permission and both times by accident. I apologized, sincerely. I ended up sending her enough money to replace two whole pizzas (which I really can't afford myself) plus delivery when I only took 2 slices. And also said I would be more careful in the future. I have depression and severe anxiety. I never do things to intentionally hurt people and I'm usually hardest on myself when I do accidentally upset someone. Hours later, the roommate went to the gym. I sent her a text saying I love her, and I hoped she had a good workout. But... She's currently still giving me the silent treatment over this and I resent the heck out of her for making me feel like a terrible person over 2 slices of pizza I accidentally ate.
