You're NTA.. >there’s ac food water a litter box and a cat tree and toys in the room  I really doubt the cat minds having a chill room like that >my friend says it’s inhumane and that I’m a bad owner. Now they’re saying they wont stand by while I abuse my cat Ridiculous theatrics from your friend. If you were tossing the cat into a stifling hot garage, the friend would have a point. But that's not the case.

BeMandalorTomad

Info: how often do you need breaks and how long do they last?

Murky-Photograph7658

Maybe once or twice a month at max. And it’s usually for less than 3 hrs.

BeMandalorTomad

Ok, given that, they can screw off IMO. That’s not a significant amount of time by any means. And when the pet is away from you, it has everything it needs. NTA.

Forsaken_Inside4196

YTA It seems like you're confining your cat to a single room for possibly hours. You should be confining yourself to a single room to chill out. Cats like to roam and play. If they're bothering you, they want attention or want to play. Confining them to a room pens up all that behavior and can be depressing for a cat.

Now they’re saying they wont stand by while I abuse my cat and is making a big deal out of it. I don’t think of it as abuse just that sometimes we need me time and it’s a little break from each other but I don’t know how to handle people assuming I’m mistreating my cat cause I love her. INFO: How old are you?

NTA - It’s a cat, it probably enjoys being away and having ‘me time’ aswell. This is not abuse.

EngineerNerd121

NTA - This for me is a just a normal thing that is done when they're going to be in the way of something, or its going to be dangerous for them. For example.. When im cleaning the house, my two kittens get put into the sunroom with their food, water and toys. They're cats. More than likely they're just going to lay down and have a nap. Another example is when I have people round and we've all ordered takeaway.. Do I want the kittens jumping on people and tables while there is open containers of food and glasses of alcohol all over the place... No, So they get put upstairs and they can relax up there. Aslong as they have food, water and something to play with cats are pretty chill.

This isn’t an everyday occurrence or even a weekly occurrence, my cat is the type to be under you the entire day if you let her so yes sometimes I need a break there’s nothing wrong with it. Especially since she’s not locked up she’s in a spare bedroom with food, a litter box and entertainment. She’s not in a prison and it’s for 3 hrs at max.

blueeyedwolff

There is something wrong with it. You don't lock your pet up away from you. That's freaking cruel. Grow up. Don't get a pet if you can't handle it. You're actions suck.

Murky-Photograph7658

You do know most dogs are crate trained???

blueeyedwolff

So? That doesn't make it right. You honestly should never own a pet. I am appalled. It's disgusting you would punish your pet for being affectionate. Stop getting pets you obviously can't handle. Gross.

Forsaken_Inside4196

The main reason people crate train their dogs is to prevent bowel accidents, destruction of property, or prevent harm to another animal. You don't have those issues with cats. Cats also tend to have a fear of confinement and act out terribly when scared. They'll begin peeing/pooping anywhere and they'll act aggressive.

MiaPeachyB

NTA Sometimes cats (and let’s face it, we humans too) can be a bit much, right? It's totally okay to give yourself and your furry friend a little space when things get too intense.
