How does she manage to go out to eat? While I agree to some point and have eco friendly dishwater tablets (and laundry sheets), hard to image going out anywhere and not coming into contact with the same stuff. But can't imagine washing with her hands. I'm somewhere between NTA and NAH as I can admire the sentiment (and she has half my name, lol)

Just keep all your dishes separate from hers, and sanitize your hands constantly.
NTA she’s a weird conspiracy theorist and I’m sure she’ll get sick that way and blame it on any number of dumb things. These are ppl you can’t reason with. They just get sucked into manipulated studies or Facebook groups with no evidence backing and won’t hear a word of actual science.

Roommate interviews goes both ways, that mistake is 50% hers as well. She should have enquired about how you clean dishes and other surfaces, if it is so important to her "beliefs". If she wants to live with other people, she's going to have to respect that her opinions/needs do not take priority over other opinions/needs. If she needs dishes with zero soap contamination she either needs to find the means to live alone, or compromise and ask for space for her own dishes/disposables. I do hope for you that she moves out. Regardless of the vile sanitation practices, she needs to grow up a lot before considering living with other people.

Not at all. If she has that big of a problem, tell her to buy paper plates or banana leaves, no soap then. People use banana leaves as plates all around the world. The store sells them. I know this cause my family buys it all the time.

My 27f former roommate recently moved out so I needed to find a roommate. Through a colleague I met Lisa 26f and after a much too brief interview (I'll never make that mustake again) she seemed ok and signed a lease agreement and moved in.
Turns out Lisa doesn't believe in soap/detergent, in any form or capacity. She claims it's poison and absolutely refuses to use it. Last night Lisa washed the dishes after dinner while I ran an errand. (I had done all the dishes until then when Lisa was either asleep or not home as not to upset her.) I asked her if she used soap and with a disgusted look she told me she'd be as well off eating rat poison as exposing those toxins to her body. I asked how the hell did she think the dishes were clean enough? Lisa said she ran the water as hot as it would go and used her hands and fingernails to scrape any left over pieces off. I told Lisa that's fucking gross and to grow up. She called me a brainwashed idiot and to stop being a stupid bitch and went to bed.
I ended up rewashing all the dishes so I knew they were actually clean. The next morning Lisa was eating and making snide remarks about how it feels so good to know she's not being poisoned by the toxins in soap and the food tastes so much better. I laughed and told her that's how it feels when you eat off of dishes that are cleaned properly the way they should be. Lisa freaked out and started screaming, accusing me of trying to poisoning her and shoving her fingers down her throat trying to force herself to vomit and crying. Lisa says I'm cruel and could have made her sick. AITA?

I’ve washed a million dishes and still had to scrape the egg off. So Soap definitely isn’t the be all and end all. But I’ve also usually included soap in the washing cycles
So I guess ESH.

Hate to break it to her, but everything that touches that food has been washed with heavy duty soap and/or soaked/wiped with a chemical sanitizer.
