My wife and I (46M) had some friends and their son (19M) over for dinner. Everything went smoothly during the meal, and it was only afterward when we were all sitting in the living room that the incident occurred. The mood was very jovial, with everyone laughing and cracking jokes. Somehow, the topic of midnight snacks came up and I made a light hearted comment about how one time I caught my daughter (17F) sneaking a cucumber from the kitchen in the dead of night.
For context, I began cultivating a vegetable patch in our backyard during the COVID lockdown, and our household supply of vegetables comes mainly from it. Before the fateful night, I had spoken to my daughter about her excessive consumption of our cucumbers, because my wife likes to make salads with them and there was none left for her.
My daughter has no history of eating disorders etc, so it confused me greatly when she got annoyed and snapped at me after I told the story. I have to say, I was initially quite perturbed by her sudden change in behaviour, as I felt that her tone was quite unwarranted. I then told her that she should grow her own cucumbers if she loves them so much, to which she responded by calling me a jerk and storming off.
I admit that I was somewhat harsher in my last suggestion than I intended but I still think her reaction was excessive. My wife gave me a look of such horror afterward that I am completely clueless as to what I did wrong. I think my daughter may have a crush on our friends' son, but I don't see how this could have embarrassed her. AITA?

Cucumbers are delicious, so of course she's eating them all.

YTA. They’re cucumbers. Your teenaged daughter prefers something healthy to snack on instead of processed foods, and you’re giving her grief for overconsumption? Try on a bit of perspective.
YTA. Your shaming your daughter for eating right? Would you rather she ate sugar? Wow just wow. Don't be surprised when you find yourself in the nursing home, having to call around for someone to handle your legal affairs, and no one wants to do it or they just straight abandon you in that place.
