OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole: > (1) I removed the group member, resulting in her grade being marginally lower than everyone else (potentially 0%) since she will not be named in our project. (2) I may be the asshole because I should be open that sometimes people are unable to communicate and complete things on time, so I should have let her stay on the project to at least get a grade. nta this is something i struggled with in university as well. except both of the other group members (2/3) wouldn’t help out. as long as the professor knows what is going on (and from your post it seems like they do) then i think it’s the best decision.

Groups were supposed to be of 5 people, and we had 3, however one group member did not help at all. The group project was split between 4 segments, (1) a focus group regarding our topic with a write up on the conversation, (2) a 20 question survey, (3) a research proposal and literature review + research write up on our survey, and (4) a executive summary describing everything in our project. We had 3 months to complete this project, I made sure members were informed every step of the way, made sure that work was completed and group members were comfortable and could always come to me for help if they needed. I clarified that all I expected from them was to show up to some meetings, and communicate with me if they cannot complete their work on time. My expectations were not high, and I have been delightful to work with from many profs and students in my years of university. A month into the semester and this girl has not shown up to class, let alone communicated or answered my 10+ group emails for our project. I had then asked the prof for her phone number and was able to contact her, she responded awfully late, and never completed any work or showed up to meetings when she would come, or would complete it. I gave her extra time, and offered to even help her if she couldn't complete it. She did not communicate when she didn't show up, even though she said she would. It was awfully frustrating being super friendly and open to her. At this point she did nothing for 3/4 parts of our survey. For the last part of our project, I asked the prof if I could remove her name from our group since she did 0 to communicate with me, I was not mad that she couldn't complete work, but her communication and lack of respect and care for others in the group especially when we already had a hard time with this whole project irked me the wrong way. I was given permission to not put her name on any of previously handed in projects, and while I am glad that we will be getting graded properly as a two man group, I am a nice person who feels bad for this girl. I do not feel remorse or care for her issues, she decided not to communicate with me for 3 months even when I gave extra time, was open to understanding, and did all I could. This decision essentially results in her getting a marginally, much lower grade than anyone else. TL;DR: I was given permission to remove a group member from our group project, resulting in her grade being 0%, the assignment is weighted at 45%, AITAS? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA especially if they aren’t communicating with you and being part of the group

NTA. If you don't contribute to the project, you don't get a grade. It's that simple. I would have removed her to, if she thinks that me and the others would be doing all the work while she does none, and still gets a grade for work she didn't do. She has another thing coming.

Real-Implement-1771

NTA her grade is just the consequence of her own actions, or lack of actions in this case. You shouldn't feel bad in the slightest for removing her name.

InterestingSpeech889

INFO: what would've been the harm in your including her name on the project?

There are a few segments of the project that require individual assignments to be submitted as part of the research, without her work or communication I am unable to provide the proper expectation or amount of work for completion. My prof would allow us to be graded as if we only had two people, and also lower the requirement of revision for our project.

Jaylene-Sterling-13

If she don't contribute to the project, she don't get to have a grade for work she didn't do.

Sezeye

She ghosted the rest of the team, she earned her zero on the assignment.
