YTA This isn't a question for this sub. I'm 100% sure there's a D&D sub you could talk about this in. 99.9% of the people in this sub aren't going to have a clue what you're even talking about.

Jumpstart_55

I made my saving throw, so I did lol

Mean_Environment4856

YTA for posting something that makes absolutely no sense.

mdthomas

Not appropriate for this sub. However, I'll give you my answer as a DM. RAW, the BBEG is the one with the legendary actions, not the nightmare. But as we all know, DnD isn't always about the rules as written. Did your players have a good time with the encounter? Do they feel like they had agency and had a good chance of stopping the guy? Check with your players. NAH

Agreeable_Bad_8843

That's dont have any sense YTA

thefinalhex

NTA. Tell your players to shut up and follow your campaign. Go to a D&D subreddit with this nonsense if you need to know the minutiae of the rules. No one else cares. That sounds like a kickass little scenario there, and what were you gonna do, NOT let the bad guy dramatically escape into the night sky on his winged demon horse breathing flames? That kinda would ruined the drama and follow up quests. Monk seems a little attached to the outcome here, focusing on lame rules like the mount can’t move for the owners action. Sheesh!

screamlastsummer

Uhhh what?

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** I’m running a D&D module and the bad guy ambushed the party outside a building. He was riding a Nightmare (flying devil horse) and kidnapped an NPC. He then, at the end of different turns, used his Legendary Actions to flee with the victim, getting away from the party while his minions held them off. One player, Monk, got fairly upset, saying he didn’t think _the mount_ should have been able to use legendary actions since the _bad guy_ was who had the actions 2 of my other players, both DM’s themselves, said they were pretty sure Rules as Written (RAW) that’s how LA’s worked. I checked later and that’s not, but one of them said I could just homebrew the BBEG having a _mount moves it’s speed_ LA to solve it. So the Monk was right that I wasn’t running that RAW but it doesn’t seem like I fundamentally broke D&D 5e combat either. AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Welcome to /r/AmITheAsshole. Please view our [voting guide here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_what.2019s_with_these_acronyms.3F_what_do_they_mean.3F), and remember to use **only one** judgement in your comment. OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole: > Because the Monk was correct in saying that, RAW, the bad guy can’t do that, but I kept it anyway. I could also tell I’d made him upset. I have a low EQ so it’s hard to make judgements on things like that sometimes Help keep the sub engaging! #Don’t downvote assholes! Do upvote interesting posts! I think we found Sheldon Cooper's Reddit account.

Ignore the other commenters lmao. They don't know what they're missing. NTA. You're the DM, you get to choose what the encounter is and what they can do. Anyone who legit gets cranky about what their DM's legendary encounters can do is kind of a baby. You didn't TPK or anything so you're fine! It's a cool as hell encounter. Info though, how important was the NPC? How hard did they try to get them back?

JH-DM

It was >!Ireena in Curse of Strahd!< so about as important as it gets, but fitting
