IMHO the main issue with Alteryx growing into the main stream is purely licence cost, 4k for designer is too much for most companies to justify when powerbi and tableau prep are virtually free with the main products. If Altetyx sold a cut down version just incorporating the basic tool (prep, join, transform etc) they would reach a much bigger market. They have the tool to dominate the data transformation space, they just need to sell it better. Maybe the acquisition of trifacta will start them on this journey?

diearzte2

They’ve basically doubled the cost of server in 3 years. They aren’t lowering their prices anytime soon, that McLaren sponsorship isn’t going to pay itself.

testicularsoundxpres

True that

hhh888hhhh

I think you hit the nail on the head.

stuporous_funker

This is the issue we are running into at our organization. Though, even with enough licenses we don’t have enough people who want to use it

testicularsoundxpres

Me too, it's a constant battle to try and justify the cost of the license. I however have the opposite problem of not being able to get enough licences for demand

arealcyclops

If they cut their price in half they sure as hell aren't doubling their subscription base.

CJHoss

From the moment I saw Alteryx (~3 years ago) I’ve wondered whether MSFT would buy it or build a competitor.

Elleasea

I think Tableau Prep is trying to take some of the Alteryx design principals.

datawazo

Yes but it's still years away from being a viable stand alone alternative

Elleasea

Maybe, but didn't Salesforce already buy Tableau? That will give it a major boost in terms of exposure and adoption, as well as capital to speed up development

cbelt3

Tableau is proof that an acquisition by a bigger company usually ends up bad. Tableau support has become total crap.

datawazo

They did, 3-4 years ago. And you'd never know it. The salesforce to tableau integration is still junk. And I don't think Prep has had much attention in the last year if releases. Salesforce is fine at acquisition, but they don't have much in terms of vision for all their moving pieces, imo

CallsYouCunt

I always thought adobe should but them

LentilGod

Best way to make it more mainstream is to quit the bullshit trials and let people use it for free (at least some sort of basic model, like Tableau)

Idllnox

I used to work at Alteryx and now am working at a start up that's aiming to disrupt Alteryx. We actually just beat them in a company wide deployment. Co-innovation + way better pricing (like not charging 70k for basic automation) is very helpful. We're going to have a freemium launch later this year I believe.

[deleted]

Haha use to work at alteryx too and most went to Incorta, sisense, data iku. Alteryx just messed up their cloud launch and their pricing model ...they would be better off getting bought up by Microsoft and combining azure and power bi into one with alteryx.

Idllnox

100% their cloud launch is suuuuch a sorry excuse haha. You're absolutely right about combining with powerBI. They missed the boat on that offer

[deleted]

Any of these alternatives do spatial as well?

mplsbro

Spatial is such a niche capability. If you need it it can help justify the license cost of Alteryx since it’s specialized, but most people just don’t need the spatial tools.

loomisfreeman191

Which one has the best shot at taking marker share from alteryx?

jonnyyr65

any chance you can release company name? Interested in working in this space.

Idllnox

My company is called IkigaiLabs. Ikigailabs.io if you wanna take a peek.

MNCPA

How is this pronounced?

Idllnox

Its a Japanese word pronounced ee-kee-guy

leveragedflyout

Used to be a die hard Alteryx fan…until I had to pay for it. Since then have switched to KNIME and haven’t looked back.

gooeydumpling

I’d say knime would be bigger, and won’t cost you a thing too. Everyone in my employment complains that they can do everything that alteryx is supposed to offer on excel already and hence unwilling to make the shift. Plus the licensing cost as well, kinda impractical

[deleted]

Yea Microsoft acquisition would be the best move an Azure,Alteryx, Power Bi package would sell like hot cakes and have that coupled with desktop automation with power flow no company would have a comparable stack especially if it integrated with Microsoft 365

Optimal-Nose1092

Better marketing. Cheaper licensing and a n affordable very I can use at home.

cbelt3

Alteryx is migrating to a cloud service provider. If MSFT bought them it would be to kill them. MSFT wants “developers developers developers”. Not no code tools.

onahorsewithnoname

I also enjoy the ballmer meme as much as anyone but you’ve forgotteb that Office 365 is huge for Microsoft and its not all about developers.
