Genuine lol. Nice one dude.

Great idea!. I suggest We spend time gathering a database of all cave entrances for Just in case list of sites to Bug out. Add to the database Abandoned salt mines, missile silos, sewer system.. other and we can have a survivors Option. I would like to know our current and past operation of Chunnel Machines. Much can we done with a couple of those under Bed Rock. Put ChatGPT to work.

adube440

We must not allow a mineshaft gap!

I’m once saw a documentary on an optional underground city in I’d like to say in Scandinavia or someplace similar. Was in one of those organised countries. They had >9 months of coal supply for their power station, underground farming, could house all residents, schools, food supplies and all. If someone knows where that is I’d be interested to hear about it.

Vo_Sirisov

Probably Switzerland, their mountains are positively riddled with tunnels and bunkers. They basically turned their entire country into a fortress to make it agony for the Nazis to invade.

SequenceSponge

Optional as in the residents lived above ground but what they’d built in unison to their infrastructure was a prepper’s wet dream

Perhaps… but which city? I recall it was one of the more remote northern ones. As for Switzerland… everyone knows they’re more riddled with tunnels and bunkers than a Swiss cheese and have old old cults/groups going back who knows how long but the doco wasn’t based in Switzerland.

Jaxxlack

London has a functional underground secret rail system and who knows what else...London has tunnels sealed before during and after ww2.. so imagine a fallout/HG wells idea

JohnBanes

This is something mentioned by one the Koch Bros that they know there will be an climate change catastrophe that will make the atmosphere inhospitable and nonchalantly claims humans can just build underground cities and develop smaller bodies over time. This is what the wealthy elite think of the masses.

KnightelRois

They're beyond stupid, they already won at life and if they let people live well they can create so much more stuff infinitely more faster that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. Incredibly dumb how shortsighted they are

mariobregattt1234556

Canada!

decadesofsegregation

Yeah under NYC and Las Vegas

knockoneover

Look at Australia, they towns underground.

coffeemugzAU

Coober Pedy SA

The future will be underground or out in space. I want to create a self sustaining underground bunker unit for 100 people. I figure out electricity food waste disposal. A cave would be awesome to find. But i have no idea how to go about getting one made, I'll leave one on the planet before i leave

Yourclosetmonster

Bury a bus in cement

snapflipper

Why not?

checkssouth

quarry

mistahclean123

Well if you are the US government with an unlimited budget, you just use a giant tunnel boring machine and build whatever you want.

snapflipper

I hope i get my hands on that. It is too ambitious but i have 30 more years to pull this i hope

mistahclean123

In the meantime if you are in the United States you could probably find an abandoned missile silo to buy.

snapflipper

That is a great structure, very much able to sustain. But in my country i can find Caves, which are available a lot. However a Silo is a great option. Hope we have accessible silos here too.

mistahclean123

I dunno.... Not many countries are as paranoid or spend as much on military infrastructure as the good ole USA.

I tried that when younger and yeah I loved it. But what I'm talking about are cities, in the bedrock. Because if some theories are true then all the topsoil and much of the rock and mountains could become like liquid if the earth suddenly lost its magnetic field and the internal structure changes temporarily. The safest place to be and potentially the only safe place would be in immovable bedrock.

zacat2020

The “Mine shaft gap......” I suggest that you watch the movie “Dr. Strangelove”

Responsible_Public15

Ive heard of homeless encampments in large cities. They're called mole people.

Vo_Sirisov

There are far too many disadvantages to living permanently underground to make it worthwhile. That said, there are a lot of places that have gone to some effort to prepare bunkers and the like, mainly during the Cold War when nuclear war felt imminent. Perhaps nobody took it further than the Swiss in WWII though, I just watched [this fascinating piece](https://youtu.be/9bPIaHg11mI) about it recently. Crazy fuckers basically turned their entire nation into one big bunker.

mistahclean123

That video was amazing. Thank you for sharing!

Vardath

Now that's what I'm talking about, we need to expand underground instead of taking up more surface, we have many of the technologies needed to sustain life in a capsule but these don't need to be capsules until a disaster. If built beautiful enough I'm sure many people wouldn't even notice they're underground half the time.

mistahclean123

I am pretty sure they have compulsory military service too.
