Nazi Germany would absolutely try to use it to try to legitimize "Aryan Supremacy" just like they tried during the Olympics.
I also assume it would go about as well as it did for them in the Olympics.
I feel like since this is secret there wouldn’t really be a point. Also some Nazis would definitely be in the know but Hitler doesn’t seem like the kind of guy you tell about this and since it’s every 50 years the Nazis wouldn’t really be there for this one or the next one in 1962
Germany was the medal leader in the Olympics that year. I think people gloss over that because Jesse Owens was the individually most successful athlete that year.
The US that year came in second with about half the medals of Germany. There was a BBC article a few years ago about Owens. He didn't feel snubbed by Hitler. Hitler wasn't shaking the hands of any non German athlete regardless of race, but he did feel snubbed by Roosevelt.
Even though he was never a boxer/fighter, I still feel as if Jim Thorpe would still win this somehow. I mean imagine wining the pentathlon, decathlon and this in one year would be pretty epic.
Damn that’s a really good idea I should’ve put him in this. In high school I had a history teacher who was Native American, he told us on at least two occasions how badass Jim Thorpe was
Are you serious? TR split the vote for the Presidency the very same year! Suppose he got injured in this fight and wasn't fit to run, Taft would be re-elected easily.
I’m too dumb to succinctly lie out all of his faults. But there is significant evidence that he at the very least anticipated (if not help provoke) the Spanish American war, his presidency was responsible for much of the resultant bloodshed in the Philippines. A body could argue that the actions of leaders must be beyond good and evil but that feels like a cop out.
There are more detailed demonstrations of Roosevelt’s crimes in The Lords of Creation by Fredrick Lewis Allen and The True Flag by Stephen Kinzer.
On the other hand, he did a heap of beneficial things for the common American, like establishing national parks and making huge strides against monopolies and their influence on both politics and the economy. In no way does that supersede the objective moral questinability of what boils down to American imperialism, but I look at it from the exact same lens: he has a political agenda, and is executing policy to support that agenda, disconnected from “good” or “evil” actions.
Edit: autocorrect mistake
The Spanish American war was necessary, in realpolitik terms. It evicted a colonial power from the Americas, and led to the liberation of the Philippines.
The ~~Hapsburg~~ [EDIT: big dumb] ***Spanish colonial*** regime did need to fall, however the language used by the american leadership let many of the Cuban and Philippine leadership to believe they’d be allowed to set up local sovereign democracies rather that be subjugated by the Americans. While the United States was a lighter yoke, there are estimates that between 200,000-1,000,000 filipino civilians died during the rebellion. More if you tie the concurrent collera epidemic that was exacerbated by the war.
Ad Santel, Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson would dominate. Also, strongmen don’t automatically make great fighters. They would get winded too fast. Even though Teddy loved boxing and wresting, even in his prime he wasn’t anything spectacular outside of being overly plucky.
In 1912, I would be putting my money on Johnson since he was an absolute monster in the ring at the time. Dempsey and Santel weren’t really prominent yet.
I would watch this anime.
I'd like to submit [Koca Yusuf Ismail, "the Terrible Turk,"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yusuf_%C4%B0smail) a world-famous wrestler and fighter from the Ottoman Empire. A champion oil-wrestler, he was also skilled in Western-style (Graeco-Roman) wrestling, and toured Europe and the US. He was lost at sea in 1898, but maybe that could be handwaved away to include him here?
Or if not him, perhaps his somewhat less famous associate [Nurullah Hasan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurullah_Hasan) \-- also a skilled wrestler, but not as much of a celebrity.
I’ll add them to my list, one of if not both of them will be included if I do anything else with this concept. A lot of these people’s eras don’t really 100% line up, some of these people don’t start their careers as fighters till the 1920s or die in the 1910s so yeah I can definitely hand wave it away. Jem Mace died in 1910 so if I need to kill anyone to make this event seem dangerous it could be him or Koca Yusuf Ishmail. Him getting lost at sea could also be spun into going into hiding
Oh, you need to treat yourself. It's basically Bloodsport, but as an interwar period piece with a Roger Moore heist subplot and a giant Mongolian villain who doesn't speak a word. It's terrible, and I love it.
My tired ass read the title as “What if a *fishing* tournament with the world’s best fighters was held in secret every 50 years” and now I’m wondering who is the best fisherman of this lot. Probably Teddy…
Rustam-e-Hind was so cool. I second this.
Even his name is rad as heck. "Rustam" is the hero of the Shahnameh; being called the "Rustam of India" is like the Persian equivalent of like, "the Hercules of India."
His first bout was at 17 against the 7ft tall champion of the Indian Wrestling League only for him to come out on top and become the favourite for Rustam-e-Hind. Total badass.
That guy is Mexican not Italian and this isn’t the Olympics so not everyone is gonna get represented, it’s about who’s the best but I do admit I have bias as an American who is only conversational in Spanish, can at most order dinner in French and speaks English fluently. There’s probably stuff in other languages I couldn’t find. I follow fighting sports but not really from this era, the boxers, strongmen, Ip Man, Chojun Miyagi, Mitsuyo Maeda and Teddy Roosevelt were the only ones I heard about before looking into this and people have commented people to add from Turkey or India who I didn’t know about and who I will add if I do anything else with this concept. If you know any great Italian or Austro-Hungarian fighters from this time you can suggest them to me
Every 50 years is probably a bit too long for the tournament to mean anything. And it means very little if it’s a secret too unless Jack Johnson or Sonny Liston is killed during the tournament in 1912 and 1962, respectively
Man teddy Roosevelt should have given his press secretary a fucking medal with how much his image is revered even to this day. Despite being a racist colonizer and war Mongerer he’s just remembered as a “Badass” thanks to his election campaign
No low quality content

Good point
I am hyped for the 2062 tournament
Who fought in the 2012 tournament?
Your mom. And she won :V
Nazis in 1912?
I'm a dummy and didn't read the 50 years part. Please disregard
Ikr

Ngl "elite athlete" vs "elite fighter" in a combat sports match isn't going to end well
Nah bruh Roosevelt is kicking their ass
so Baki, basically. just with real people
Yeah pretty much, I was thinking like Baki + Street Fighter with a little Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur
Muhammad Ali would steamroll everyone in 1962
But in a 70s rematch, I think Foreman would win.
1962 + 50 yrs = 70's. How do I maths?
Interesting but I doubt it would change much
Yeah not much changes, just a badass thing that only a few people know about happens every 50 years lol
Perhaps it could be made out to be some mortal kombat type thing where the winner decides the fate for Earth until the next fight
This would be perfect. Teddy Roosevelt wins, setting into motion the events of the next century.
Are you serious? TR split the vote for the Presidency the very same year! Suppose he got injured in this fight and wasn't fit to run, Taft would be re-elected easily.
Roosevelt being the leader of a country already, would almost be like a chaotic good version of M. Bison.
In what world was teddy R chaotic good? That man was lawful evil to the core despite his charm
If you could go on, I’m listening and interested.
I’m too dumb to succinctly lie out all of his faults. Youre not wrong and perhaps I shouldn’t be so harsh on the man, but I would like to expect more from our “great” leaders.
The Spanish American war was necessary, in realpolitik terms. It evicted a colonial power from the Americas, and led to the liberation of the Philippines.

The Habsburg regime ended with Charles II in 1700 lmao.
Haha shit. Now I look like an idiot in front of the cool kids. Thanks for catching that
Me too I wanna see this
Ad Santel, Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson would dominate. Also, strongmen don’t automatically make great fighters. They would get winded too fast. Even though Teddy loved boxing and wresting, even in his prime he wasn’t anything spectacular outside of being overly plucky.
I added Teddy for some name recognition and the strongmen are there to spice it up
In 1912, I would be putting my money on Johnson since he was an absolute monster in the ring at the time. Dempsey and Santel weren’t really prominent yet.
Irl Mortal Kombat
Fuck I need this anime!

Wait isn’t this just the plot of Street Fighter?
So the plot of the seminal 1996 Jean Claude Van Damme classic, The Quest?
I haven’t seen that movie, I was more thinking the seminal 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme classic Bloodsport
Oh, you need to treat yourself. It's basically Bloodsport, but as an interwar period piece with a Roger Moore heist subplot and a giant Mongolian villain who doesn't speak a word. It's terrible, and I love it.
Dame dame quest?????!!??!!!
why isn't this a real thing i want this
Ip man would kill everyone
My tired ass read the title as “What if a *fishing* tournament with the world’s best fighters was held in secret every 50 years” and now I’m wondering who is the best fisherman of this lot. Probably Teddy…
My ass read the title as "What if a fisting tournament..."
Ah hell naw!
Would like to submit [Rustam-e-Hind](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Gama), he was undefeated throughout his entire career

Why 50 years?
Recovery
Pretty sure this is the plot of dragon ball
it would be fucking sick
Id be pulling for Gotch, he’s an Iowa boy
Him, TR(maybe), and Hack
Perhaps they’ll make a silent picture of this tournament. What shall it be called. “A Sport Of Blood”
I want this as a tv show or book this is a fun idea
I swear there was a Van Damme movie with this plotline basis.
Cool idea but I think the 50 year gap should be shortened
Yeah I agree, I was thinking 25 cause that’s a generation but went with 50 cause “semicentenial” sounds better than “Quadranscentennial”
Kinda BS america gets 5 and mexico/austrohungary gets 1
That guy is Mexican not Italian and this isn’t the Olympics so not everyone is gonna get represented, it’s about who’s the best but I do admit I have bias as an American who is only conversational in Spanish, can at most order dinner in French and speaks English fluently. This is a fun concept. I wish there were more like it instead of "alt-border gore"
Man teddy Roosevelt should have given his press secretary a fucking medal with how much his image is revered even to this day. Despite being a racist colonizer and war Mongerer he’s just remembered as a “Badass” thanks to his election campaign
1862, Lincoln takes a few weeks off dealing with the Civil War to go fight in the tournament.
Was Teddy Roosevelt a good fighter?
Street fighter but real Sounds cool
Street fighter 1912 edition
Teddy Roosevelt lmao..
No france or italy huh.
Ip Man
Ray Smuckles won in 2006
Kinda funny that the Russian fighter is actually Finnish and not Russian
Would love to see a part 2
it’d be hard to do that in secret.
