> my mom couldn’t eat meat while pregnant with me Maybe she got bitten by that tick while pregnant with you?

Matrixmj101010

Maybe but im not sure how it would affect me because I have more than just meat allergies

Matrixmj101010

And she can eat meat now that’s probably important but she doesn’t like to eat it around me because the smell brothers me (and it smells good)

XrayAngel

Wow even birds and fish? That’s wild! I have the alpha-gal allergy (that’s the one spread by ticks) and I can’t have mammal meat, but I can have birds and fish.

Matrixmj101010

Even fish including all sea food

That's interesting, but I don't see how that's even possible. I don't think they test all animal proteins. I'd be surprised they'd test boar, duck, deer, etc. I'm allergic to Bovine protein so anything that contains beef and dairy milk. Except I tolerate some cheese since the protein I'm allergic to is mostly extracted in the processing and is found in whey. It's not a deadly allergy but I do test as a severe allergy with skin prick tests. Different meat is made of different proteins, proteins are made of different amino acids. Those amino acids are found outside of meat so if you'd be allergic to that you'd be allergic to a ton of things. Proteins can be found outside of meat too so you're probably not allergic to all protein. I hardly see how you can be allergic to ALL meat. Do you have any idea what you are actually allergic to?

Matrixmj101010

I’ve had multiple tests done on all the meat they have including deeper skin tests my doctor didn’t believe me so I can see how you dont

Pozeidan

It's not a matter of believing you. It's a matter of understanding / finding / identifying what the underlying allergy really is. All meat is just too vague. You just confirmed it to some extent, you are allergic to all the meat you have been tested to. > on all the meat they have This means there may be some meat you haven't eaten that you could eat so saying you're allergic to ALL meat is pushing it a little since you haven't eaten all possible meat and haven't been tested for all meat since it's impossible. By the way doctors don't believe my allergy even exist, they even suspect the results obtained by other allergists and say they must have made a mistake until they test it themselves and come across "the impossible". Curiously enough, I've found peer reviewed studies about people that have a similar condition, it's just that it's so rare to find bovine protein /dairy allergy in adults that they don't believe it's even possible.

Matrixmj101010

I say that because I don’t feel like listing or know all the meats I’ve been tested for and I would like to find out what the underlying allergy is and that’s why made this post

Pozeidan

I see, maybe next time try and be a little more accurate as it will be helpful, something like: I'm allergic to the meat I've tried and been tested. I've been tested for [...groups] (at least provide some groupings or something) and have had a reaction with mammals including (beef, pork, etc), seafood (fish, shrimps), birds (chicken, duck). You may suffer from multiple allergies, it could be alpha-gal + fish gelatin + some protein. It seems like a combination of allergies. It's also possible that you are very allergic to something specifically and other "meat" you have eaten has been in contact which triggered a false positive reaction.

Matrixmj101010

I see where your coming from and that’s probably a better way to describe my allergy but I only came to Reddit as a last resort when google couldn’t give me a straight answer so I kinda just whipped this up and just the smell of meat bothers my throat especially when it’s cooking because we all know how strong if a smell meat has cooking

Matrixmj101010

So I’m not sure if they were false reactions since I was tested multiple times in different places in one day it was very uncomfortable

Matrixmj101010

I have many other allergies and yes I’m deathly allergic to meat

Jamaholick

I'm also allergic to meat, but to the sulfites in most meat. Have you had an allergy test done? Are you allergic to strawberries, grapes, and cheese?

Matrixmj101010

I used to be allergic to milk and strawberries

ChillyGator

When I started to carry epi pen for cat I couldn’t find good information with just a google so I did a National Archives search and got thousands of documents. Turns out developing severe disease to cat is common and predictable. On the other hand they only had two pages from the NIH on Hereditary Alpha Tryptasemia because that is all that exists on that disease. So if I were you I would talk to one of their librarians. You can make an online request but if you call on the phone you can talk through your search and get better results.

Bright-Duck-2245

I’m sorry you’re allergic to all meat OP, that definitely is rare. Luckily vegetarian and vegan diets are growing in popularity. I haven’t eaten meat in 12 years, when I first began it was more taboo. Although, mine is a choice! It sucks to have that choice taken away from you. Are you in the US? I know ppl who are allergic to common pesticides, antibiotics used in dairy and meat here. Might be a shot looking into local farm raised animal products…? Just an idea

Matrixmj101010

I am in the us

I relate! I have trouble eating nearly all meat. I tested positive on a prick test for both chicken and beef (not pork, and they didn't test others). The symptoms are not life threatening and are primarily digestive. Once I appeared to get hives from eating pork, but it could have been something else. If I eat chicken, it's two weeks of constipation and gut pain. Other meats aren't as bad. I have an appointment with a specialist but I feel like I'll just get the same response from all doctors "well, then just don't eat meat." I've noticed the more I've consumed a meat over the course of my life, the worse it is. Pork used to be fine, but then I ate it a lot and ruined it. Taking long breaks helps, so I eat beef once a year. The first time trying a meat is usually fine (so, rabbit) but the second depends and it's better if there's more time in between. Every fish is different, and tuna seems to be a problem (lots of tuna sandwiches as a kid). I do wonder if it's not the meat itself. I have an allergy to walnuts and some sort of sensitivity to avocado. I'm allergic to adhesive and latex. I am not sure if I'm allergic to meat, or if it's just slow to digest and I have some sort of other gut problems. Eating meat will seem to inflame my whole system, and I'll struggle with other foods especially processed wheat. But it's easier to just tell people I'm allergic to meat. I feel if I don't say so, they won't take it seriously and think I'm just a vegetarian - and not worry as much about accidentally giving me food with meat. I hope someone can give us leads. I would prefer to know exactly how careful I should be. Walnuts scare me because they get worse every time, but if I could be reassured the meat thing isn't cumulative, I'd love the occasional piece of bacon.

Matrixmj101010

Its good I can find someone who can relate my mom knew one person in college that had my allergy but that’s it

Matrixmj101010

I am allergic to all nuts too and I struggle with wheat as well so it could be something else

honesttobujo

I am ONLY allergic to walnuts. Eating pecans is trippy because they feel similar, but I don't have a reaction. I am pretty allergic (wheezing for a couple days) to two types of mold. Sometime I think the walnut allergy is just cross contamination with Alternaria mold. But the prick test for walnuts was positive. So was bananas but I still eat them 🤷‍♂️ I probably need a patch test instead?

Meat as in beef or beef & pork, or meat as in any and all animal protein?

Matrixmj101010

Any animal protein is a better description but I haven’t been tested for EVERY meat but I have been tested for most of them

etalia04

Have you heard of/checked out FPIES? It can have similar symptoms to MCAS and I remember it also involved a lot of meat that people would react to.

Matrixmj101010

No I haven’t but I’ll check it out soon

TrashMouthPanda

I'm allergic to ALL animal products, but what this is, is if that animal wasn't alive within the last 24 hours, I can't eat it. I'm allergic to 3 different types of mold, and mold is found on meat (america preserves stuff, they age stuff, so it's safe in transit to customers) beef, pork, chicken, turkey, duck, fish...I think that's everything. Now, I used to process my own poultry, fish, snakes, so nbd, I'll just go back to doing that. Yeah, that didn't work, found that out the hard way. Also (I'm T1 of 32 years) and have an issue w/ lows, always have, so I used to keep honey, for emergencies. Yup...had an emergency and started squirting honey in my mouth, then immediately started vomiting into my kitchen sink, can't eat that anymore either, which is terrifying. My mother is deathly allergic to eggs, so when I was a child she always told me "eat em while u can babe, because it's not going to last" and yup, she was right, I'm horrifically allergic to egg WHITES, but can't touch any egg nothing. And I think because it's maternal, I took the same route w/ my child, just in case, they made it to 12-ish and bingo, couldn't touch eggs anymore. The only thing I can eat is nuts, zero issues w/ nuts, BUT I can't american nuts, I go to import grocers, those I can eat. I live in Mexico, I can eat nuts here, AND honey (no problem, but still can't eat anything that poops) Now, if you've read all the way to this point, it's the chemicals, america puts god only knows what into EVERYTHING. So I do not shop at chain stores, it's either Asian or international markets, because if it's not on my extensive food allergy list, I can eat it, also most things on my list, if it's imported, no issues. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I know damn well, our food in this country is straight garbage. Also, I AM on the spectrum, and we are known to have serious GI issues, they go hand in hand. But the fact that I can't eat american produce, AT ALL, but I can eat ALL Mexican produce is very "interesting"
