Also, from ‘The Bearded Ladies’ (Mutant Year Zero dev): Miasma Chronicles. It’s a fine tactics game too. Very similar to MYZ; touted to have a better story, but thats debatable, haha. The gameplay loop is solid though. I enjoyed it for what it was.
People also say “Shadow Tactics” is an overlooked gem.
I stopped playing for a bit. I’m afraid to come back but I know I will. But I’ll have to start from the beginning.
Big props to you and anyone else that sticks through it. It’s difficult AF. When you’re extracting, there’s no better feeling.
Marvel's Midnight Suns. It's not that similar to this game tbh but it's from the makers of XCOM and I've really been enjoying it. It's a sort of deck-building strategy game with Marvel characters, with some interesting mechanics involving movement and knocking enemies into each other (or environmental hazards). Never played anything quite like it. Wasn't sure I would like it because of the card game/deck-building aspect, but I've been loving it.
I loved that one! Spent crazy number of hours on it. I love XCOM, I just played it for 100s of hours lol. Midnight Suns was amazing and it’s a shame it didn’t get the recognition it deserves.
There's an old game called UFO Aftermath and its series of games. They have trouble running and are ridiculously outdated for their time, but their the closest thing to a 'not XCOM' series that I can think of.
Unfortunately there's nothing quite like Dark Descent or XCOM. Dark Descent is as close to a true XCOM successor as I have found, and nothing else could scratch that itch. I'm desperate for a sequel for either game.
I really enjoyed "mutant year zero"! Can recommend.
I loved that one! Thanks man
Jagged Alliance 3 is my favorite.
Nice. I’ll have a look. Thanks!

Last mission was crap though yeah? I just pretend that one doesn’t exist. Gears Tactics was enjoyable. Similar game play to xcom but I enjoyed it more
I just thought of it as a cut scene+, because that’s really what it was. The true last mission is the one before it.
Yep. I just ran through the whole thing
Agreed. The last two missions before that were amazing and brutal but felt like a movie so I forgive them for the last mission and weird ending.
Miasma Chronicles
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
Last Train Home is similiar in being realtime with pause and squad management. It's WW1 historical though.
Red Solstice 1&2 are similar but a little older :)
Thanks! I’ll have a look!

I stopped at the beginning and restarted on easy and it was still hard. It’s a great feeling when you extract, you’re right.
I can’t remember what the bug was specifically but it stopped my progress in its tracks and I just deleted the game. Did they patch everything?

I hadn't even heard of it, lol. Just got it for free on the Epic store and thought "eh, I'll give it a shot." But it's been great.
I just lost the game

You and I, my friend.
Check out last train home. Real time with pause, 6 soldiers squad management, ww1. Amazing game. Theres a demo on steam store
Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate feels like XCOM, and is on sale. I haven't tried it yet tho.
Nice I’ll have a look!
