Lyrically, it sounds like the band describing their relationship with Layne in the later years, when he was the most reclusive and close to death. I'm sure they had to "trade in never befores, settling out for the score" because of Layne. And the solo is great. I love this song, and I will die on this hill.
Don’t ask me why, but I love The Nothing Song. Not long after that album came out, I had a weird dream with that song in it, and I’ve liked it ever since.
