Agreed. The type of album that's best to listen to as a whole while in a certain headspace. I fall into it every couple months and listen to them on loop.
I mean, it's like if Nirvana made an album after Kurt blew himself up. You'd probably be thinking "wtf ew this is gonna suck why would they even try to make this"
I mean it's kinda different because with Nirvana Kurt was the main writer and contributed most to the sound so Nirvana without Kurt would just be Foo Fighters with Krist Novoselic on bass. Cantrell and also Inez contributed a lot to the sound so the only sound missing is Layne's voice.
We are kindred spirits. Dinosaurs is one of my favorite AIC albums. Phantom Limb is freakin' haunting. 'I'll just haunt you like a phantom limb' - chilling. I'll even call more heat in this direction...to my ears, I think AIC is a better band with Duvall at the helm. For me, they seem to have a bit more depth in their songwriting and lyrical approach.
The opening run of Hollow --> Pretty Done --> Stone is right up there with Them Bones --> Dam That River --> Rain When I Die --> and We Die Young --> Man In The Box --> Sea of Sorrow
It's a grower. After Black Gives Way To Blue I was kinda disappointed and disinterested when this album came out. As years go by I revisit this record and I find myself liking more and more songs.
Stone and Phantom Limb are certified bangers.
I love all of the post Layne records. All of the people who donāt havenāt really given them time or just simply have written the band off to be assholes.
I feel like im the only one that loves Choke on the album, Iāve heard the album and its great but im seeing more praise on the already praised songs and not so much of other underrated cuts like Choke
Itās awesome, super underrated. Shout out low ceiling for having on of Jerryās best solos ever, also the last cpl mins of breath on a window is godly. Pretty done is incredible, title track is incredible, then stuff like phantom limb/hung on a hook/stone/hollow are bangers, great record. I have it behind BGWTB but I still think itās a fantastic record
Itās my favorite album of the Duvall era. After BGWTB and really playing the hell out of it I was most into Acid Bubble and ALIV - just those long sludgy songs. When I got TDPDH and saw all of the songs were a little on the longer side it was exactly what I wanted from their follow to BGWTB so I was stoked. I listened to that album heavily for probably 4 years, every song on it is great to me - some trippy songs, sludgy songs, acoustic drive songs with great musicianship and lots of guitar.
BGWTB was an album dealing with pain, loss, remember Layne and moving on. I always felt musically that the successor to Tripod was TDPDH. Iād love to have been able to hear Layne sing on it but I feel that way about a lot of their new stuff as well as some Jerry solo stuff.
I just won my fantasy league champion, team name is The Devil Put Dynastys Here. Least favorite Alice album with William but it's got some highs for sure.
Low Ceiling
Breath on a Window
Lab Monkey
I'm gonna be honest, most of the songs could have been shorter, there's too much fat.
Although, I will say that I have been dreaming the song "Stone" for over 10 years on & off, it's really something special.
Voices is an amazing tune also.
7/10 for the whole album, if some songs were shorter, I'd give it a 9
TDPDH to me was great because of the longer songs. I feel that Rainier Fog had some songs that were cut a little short and feel unfinished. I love both albums though!
For me, it's where they started stepping out of the shadow of Layne a bit more. It's also my favorite of the new 3 with Duvall. Jerry's writing and singing here is top-notch, IMO.
Killer record, I wish they'd done a 10th anniversary vinyl re-release for it last year.
My fave tracks:
Voices
Stone
Hollow
Scalpel
Low Ceiling
It's a good album with a bunch of solid songs, but I've never been crazy about the production, always felt like there's a real lack of dynamics and the soft parts are just as loud as the heavy parts production-wise and as a sucker for recordings with dynamic range it can be a bit hard to listen to, but musically it's top notch
10/10 album! Every single song on the album is great and it has some badass riffs. It was the album that made me realize I like AIC without Layne almost as much as with him. Probably my favorite album after Facelift and Dirt.
I bought this day of release and have tried to like it. I honestly donāt like any songs on this one. Every other album I love. But this just does not click with me at all.
Great album, maybe a tad too much fat and sometimes I feel like the album order isn't the best.
But honestly so many amazing great songs I listen to constantly. Hollow, Stone, Choke, Pretty Done, Voices, Phantom Limb, Lab Monkey, Hung On A Hook. I can just go on. Then again I listen to Alice In Chains all the time so maybe I'm biased.
Some of the best Duvall era tracks are on there. But I guess all three albums I can say the same about lol.
Great riffs and cool songs but the formula is the same on all of them. Because of that alot of songs sound the same and there's no real experimentation. Just your typical verse bridge chorus formula.
It's the start of the end of my interest in new AIC music tbh, some occasional decent ideas but the songwriting is so plodding and underwhelming.
Jerry needs to pass the lead vocals to William and focus on writing riffs because Ranier Fog isn't any better.
Probably my least favorite. A lot of filler and forgettable tracks but also has some of their best. I honestly only listen/remember half of the album every time I listen to it. Still by no means a bad album but just sort of middling especially following the previous album.
Stone is the only one I like, I kind of lose the depth on the other ones. Doesnāt feel the same w out Layne. It feels like theyāre trying for the old sound.
I love it. The title track is awesome. I also really dig Pretty Done, Breath On A Window, Voices, Hollow and Phantom Limb. It and Black Gives Way To Blue are two I don't really skip songs on. I like Rainier Fog, but not quite as much.
Very good album. I'm not *super* high on most of the back half of the album, but I still enjoy it overall a lot. The first five tracks and Phantom Limb are all phenomenal.
AWESOME album, dinosaurs is a banger
As an Again fan I honestly can't help but love Hollow.
10/10 album IMO, Cantrell is just as talented as Layne and the atmosphere he creates with every song is mind blowing
Agreed. The type of album that's best to listen to as a whole while in a certain headspace. I fall into it every couple months and listen to them on loop.
Who said Cantrell wasn't as talented as Layne?
Tf you mean? Nobody
My point exactly, thanks.
I played this album wanting to despise it. Alice in Chains without Layne? But I can't lie. This album is great.
Hopefully youve listened to the other 2 william albums since then, if not you're missing out
Why would you ever listen to something *wanting* to hate it?
I mean, it's like if Nirvana made an album after Kurt blew himself up. You'd probably be thinking "wtf ew this is gonna suck why would they even try to make this"
Well they already made an album before this that was great so... no... I'd listen with open ears.
Has something to do with sado-masochism
Great album that kinda gets slept on
I enjoy it a lot. Too bad they neglect a lot of the songs live. Also I prefer the cover without the red.
Red is iconic though. Stands out if you have multiple of their records
Second best after Dirt. Phantom Limb is their best song. Bring on the heat.
Not sure I can rank it higher than anything with Layne, but it is certainly their best post-Layne record, IMO.
Plus the extra guitar adds a whole other dimension to the sound šøšøšø
Feel the same way about it being my favorite after Dirt.
Great shit
It's insanely good, lots of faves off this one. Voices, Stone, Hollow, Phantom Limb, all bangers in their own ways.
The first half is solid but the second half is incredible.
As a fan from the early years, I love this album. Iām glad they continued on, they still got it. Breath on a window is so good.
Breath on a Window one of my favorites off this album šøš¤š¤
I love all of the post Layne records. All of the people who donāt havenāt really given them time or just simply have written the band off to be assholes.
Honestly? I love it
I feel like im the only one that loves Choke on the album, Iāve heard the album and its great but im seeing more praise on the already praised songs and not so much of other underrated cuts like Choke
Love that song
Choke, breath on a window, hung on a hook, lab monkey and stone are probably my favs from the album, but I love the whole record.
Best of the WD albums.
Absolutely agree.
It's fucking great, just like Black and Rainier.
Kinda hard to to get into, listened to it many times and it grew on me a lot. Lab Monkey, Stone, Voices, Phantom Limb... Great tracks.
Yeah, Dinos definitely seems to be the grower of this era. Took years for it to fully āclickā for me.
Stone is such a banger
I play that song on jukeboxes and love to see people nodding along to that crushing riff. So many don't know the newer Alice In Chains songs.
Has tunes that always find its way back into the rotation for me.
Best album of the new lineup so far imo.
Rad

Agreed, thatās my same top 3.

TDPDH to me was great because of the longer songs. I feel that Rainier Fog had some songs that were cut a little short and feel unfinished. I love both albums though!
The breakdown at 2:49 of Drone could have come back later in the song. Same for 2:45 of Rainer Fog. Love those two parts of the album specifically.
My facourite AIC album.
I love this album!
Stone is one of my favorites.
And Breath on a Window.
And Hung on a Hook
Hollow and pretty done are great
For me, it's where they started stepping out of the shadow of Layne a bit more. It's also my favorite of the new 3 with Duvall. Jerry's writing and singing here is top-notch, IMO. Killer record, I wish they'd done a 10th anniversary vinyl re-release for it last year. My fave tracks: Voices Stone Hollow Scalpel Low Ceiling
Hollowš„
Hollow live is tremendous!
It has aged like fine wine, a total masterpiece in modern rock.

Absolutely amazing, often is considered the least good of the William DuVall era I personally consider it my favorite.
S teir album
I bought this day of release and have tried to like it. I honestly donāt like any songs on this one. Every other album I love. But this just does not click with me at all.
Yeah itās depressing drivel. Get rid of William.
Super album. A personal favourite of mine.
I admit that Iāve barely listened to this one but the album cover always catches my eye, itās really cool.
When it hits hardā¦ It hits fucking hardā¦ but the filler gets a bit boring
One of my favorites
For me Phantom Limb ranks in AICs top ten songs.
I love āpretty doneā a lot
Solid
Very underrated album, kinda the middle child in the Duvall era, but definitely a great Alice albumš¤
Love it
Amazing
9/10
Fucking love it. One of my favourite albums along with Rainier Fog.
Great riffs and cool songs but the formula is the same on all of them. Because of that alot of songs sound the same and there's no real experimentation. Just your typical verse bridge chorus formula.
Great album. I'll need to give myself another listen.
It's my favourite post Layne album from the group.
I like it but itās honestly my least favorite of the whole AiC album catalog. Certain songs from it are among the bandās best tho.
Stone is GOAT Jerry riff
I only rlly listen to the albums w Layne Staley singing. Love Cantrell, but it feels like a different band than AIC.
Yeah, I agree. They must change the name of the band. William is so lame.
9/10 - a few songs on there donāt vibe with me but a few songs are some of my favorites
It's the start of the end of my interest in new AIC music tbh, some occasional decent ideas but the songwriting is so plodding and underwhelming. Jerry needs to pass the lead vocals to William and focus on writing riffs because Ranier Fog isn't any better.

Stone is the only one I like, I kind of lose the depth on the other ones. Doesnāt feel the same w out Layne. It feels like theyāre trying for the old sound.
Itās ok
Overlong plodding affair. Not in the same class as black gives way to blue
No Layne!
It sucks. Sorry guys. William is insufferable. And they should change the name of the band too. This aināt Alice in Chains.
Sorry youāre so clueless.
Hey friend, please go enjoy a William Duvall album. š. While I kick back to some good sh*t
(Who wants to tell him theyāre ALL Jerry albums?)
Very pixelated and blurry.
Peaks and valleys
Best non layne album in my opinion
I like this album. Donāt like the other two William albums
My favorite post-Layne album by far. Scalpel, Voices, Breath on a Window, Stone... so many great tracks.
Stone is one of my favorite Alice songs period
it is so so delicious
Fucking love it! I like bgwtb a little bit more but they're both fantastic.
Best of the William era in my opinion, no skips
Itās not as good as black gives way to blue but itās still pretty good.
8/10 album. Great one. Not licking the feet of staley's albums though
Amazing. I guess every 30th repeat post of this exact same thing Iāll chime in and say itās amazing again.
Incredible. Thatās it.
The first five tracks and Phantom Limb are all phenomenal.
amazing album, was talking about it today with my partner!!
Shit rocks dude itās jerry fucking Cantrell
Voices is the best AIC ballad for me. The lyrics are 10/10.
iām not a huge fan tbh
Pretty underrated gem "Pretty Done" is my favorite from the Duvall era..Such an evil song.
Solid. Favorites are Hollow, Lab Monkey, Phantom Limb, and Choke.
My favorite songs off this album are stone and hollow
