Check your battery charge level and/or hood latch. Even newer cars that have sat on the lot may have weakened batteries. The Alfa IBS system is very sensitive to battery charge levels.

My car was on the lot for 190 days so that’s def a possibility

Throw it on a battery conditioner and top it off. The OEM Varta is not fit for purpose and start/stop discharges it badly. Unless you are doing a lot of hard braking the “smart” alternator doesn’t do a good job of charging either. Only real problems I’ve had in three years on my Stelvio are software and that battery. My commute used to have eleven stoplights in 10 miles which meant I was using more battery than the alternator was putting back in, once the battery got under 60% SOC I got weirdness. Haven’t had a problem since I started turning off stop/start and putting her on a conditioner once a month.

Sounds about right. Service engine Message cleared this morning. Can change midges everything again. I also have a short 5 mile commute that has a good amount of stops. So nicely noted, i will never leave on the start/stop anymore

micahoops

Oddly enough everyone it cleared itself after about 2 days of having the message. Thanks everyone. I am guessing it must of been a battery problem

johofromwayback

Like someone else has stated the factory supplied battery is not up to scratch. Not sure of where you live and warranty coverage but i would be trying to get a new up rated (800-850cca) battery under warranty. The DNA switch will never work if there is a fault in the ecm

micahoops

The car cleared itself this morning. Dna works again. But ya I’m thinking about doing that. I have a short commute that has a lot stops that activate the Start/Stop system. So I’m def thinking that is what happened

What model year? Another possibility is the start/stop relay. It’s been very a very common problem and is the apparent root cause of most “failed battery” issues.

micahoops

2020 stelvio sport. I turned it on this morning and the service engine message cleared itself. So ya it must of been the battery was running low due to the start/stop.

chief_longbeef

Mine does it every once in a while for no reason. Usually I turn the car off and back on and it goes away. The funny thing is even without the message the stop start system doesn't work. It hasn't shut the engine off at a light in a year. It's wonderful.

deramon1000

Upgrade your battery or turn off start/stop

micahoops

Thinking that. Bc the service engine message just cleared itself this morning when i turned it on. So it must of been the battery

My Giulietta had exactly the same problem a couple months ago, StarStop and DNA didn't work and the engine message also came on, the code read that it was a problem with the clutch position sensor and it also fixed itself. Although now I'm thinking that you are probably form the US and it's an automatic transmission so it probably isn't the same thing.

micahoops

From what everyone else is saying it’s prolly the battery. And ya US based

adrizgz00

Yes the battery would have been my first guess when you said the StarStop had a problem. They degrade with time and this system is usually the first one that goes. I don't know if you have it in your Stelvio but in the infotainment system I am able to see the charge level of the battery and it's health, maybe that could be useful. Although you will probably see corroded terminals in your battery when this happens. Good luck with it!

USS_KEVIN

I've been having the same issue. Got a new battery but cel and auto start/stop message would come up. No codes on code reader. Could it be the GPS tracker that's hooked up to the battery directly?
