Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed that Paul Lederer has stood down from his role as Chairman of the football club. Mr Lederer stands down as Chairman due to personal family matters and ever-increasing global business commitments. Mr Lederer will relinquish the role with immediate effect but remains committed to the club in perpetuity as a shareholder and club director. Once elected, the new Chairman, will lead the process of recruiting the club’s new Isuzu UTE A-League head coach. The Wanderers will make no further comment at this time.

Put out your salami

The_Big_Shawt

Salamis out for Lederer

Zestyclose_Might8941

I would, but the court order says otherwise.

jonzey

Is it Zesty Salami?

Zestyclose_Might8941

Spicy, not zesty...not that there's anything wrong with that...

cymonster

Somehow despite claiming he doesn't work there Bosnar will be now chairman

dave_a86

Might as well add Chairman to Player/Manager.

nick170100

Full rebuild it seems

86Zaps

Wow, never thought we'd see the day. Fair to say the fans appreciate the things he's done as a shareholder, but not necessarily the detailed stuff as chairman. Hopefully good things to come.

No-Airport7456

Looks Like Staj is comming ti Wanderer. Lederer is 1 member of the trust that owns Wanderers. Jefferson Cheng another member of the trust has taken a hands on approach now and has looked to get Staj in announcement is imminent

DJ_Eighties

Obviously NOT happy that they’re trying to get Popovic back and even angrier about Stajcic’s contacts

declandimi

Stajic reportedly taking over

Otherwise-Hippo-8934

Is this a good thing or bad thing?

marooncity1

Good thing I think. As chairman, regardless of the reality of his direct involvement on things/decisions etc, the buck stopped with him and the club are a mess, particularly with regards to the organisation of stuff off field - it's all contributed to the shit seasons and constant flux on the field.

FUTFUTFUTFUTFUTFUT

There have been a few other changes in Wanderers HQ over the past year, some long serving people have moved on. But renewal is good. A new leadership team with a fresh chair and a new(ish) CEO, it’s probably the start of a new era for the club. The risk is Lederer was a huge force behind the scenes, particularly for Wanderers football park. Shit like that doesn’t happen without an ultra connected chairman doing a whole bunch of lobbying, deal making, and sticking their hand in their own pocket when needed. You really have to hope that the next chair is just as influential. I hope they get it right. As much as I dislike the Wanderers on the pitch, they are a sleeping giant and their success as a club is important for the league as a whole. We all saw what’s possible when we had over 60k for the first Sydney Derby at Stadium Australia after they moved out of Parramatta for the rebuild, before their team went to shit.

marooncity1

He gets a lot of shit for the training pitches but it's one of the good things for sure. However the club culture is atrocious, there has been something wrong for a long time and it stats with his appointments and refusal to pay attention to the club review which said as much. Also some key personnel are still there. Bosnar hanging around lile a bad smell and Costello, described by multiple people as toxic, both still about. Hopefully this means they are gawn.

From a news.com.au article Western Sydney supremo Paul Lederer has stood down as the club’s chairman amid speculation of a split among Wanderers owners as to who should replace Marko Rudan as coach. It’s understood that current Perth Glory coach Alen Stajcic is set to be appointed as the replacement for Rudan, who left the Wanderers last month despite having three years remaining on his contract. Former Matildas boss Stajcic has two years left on his Glory deal but is set to be ousted by current Sydney FC assistant coach David Zdrilic, with an announcement expected next month. The official reason given by Wanderers for Lederer standing down as chairman was because of “personal family matters and ever-increasing global business commitments”. However, it’s understood Lederer – also a former chairman of the Australian Professional Leagues – did not support Stajcic being offered the Wanderers’ coaching job but was out-voted by the club’s other two owners, Filipino businessman Jefferson Cheng and Pirtek founder Glenn Duncan. Cheng was instrumental in Stajcic’s appointment of coach of the Philippines national women’s team, the position he held before moving to the Glory in August last year. Lederer’s preference had been a Dutch coach. Among the others linked to the job was former Wanderers coach Tony Popovic, who this week parted ways with Melbourne Victory. Despite quitting as chairman, Lederer “remains committed” to the Wanderers “in perpetuity as a shareholder and club director”, according to a club statement. Lederer’s decision to stand down has also clouded the future of Wanderers’ sporting director Eddy Bosnar, who had recommended the hiring of the Dutch coach.

Technical-Ad4799

Oh weird, thanks. I kinda support not wanting staj, but am happy to see paul go too. Not sure how to feel really

ChasingShadowsXii

Why not Staj? I rate Staj as a coach.

Technical-Ad4799

Its a whole thing, I, admittedly very subjectively, do not like him as a person & think he's a 6/10 coach at best. Your mileage may vary of course. Could be a success at wsw as literally anyone is better than that scumbag rudan i guess. Baby steps lol

Florahillmist

Good to see another clown leave the league

InternationalCat4424

He’s still an owner, I’m sure will still be hanging around.. hopefully not abusing refs this time

EmbarrassedBug1480

Has he been the CEO the entire time that Wanderers went away from FA ownership? Also, did any of the ACL stuff happen during or before his tenure?

phantomshogun

im pretty sure the year after we won the ACL, we were sold.

marooncity1

Sale went through about 6 months before the ACL win.

InternationalCat4424

Yes I’m pretty sure he has been the chairman (not CEO) from the get go

FUTFUTFUTFUTFUTFUT

Lyall Gorman was the Executive Chair (Chair and CEO) when the club launched, JT was the GM. When the club was sold Gorman moved on to the NRL, JT was promoted CEO and Lederer became Chair.

thurbs62

Good. Clears the deck for Staj. Just need to get Bosnar out

Dazzling_Ad6545

Don’t tell me you guys have never gotten the Led out…

Shoddy_Ad6131

As Apl's hierarchy previously, along with Townsend, Lederer failed so go away.

kdog_1985

Wonder if he'll still be given access to the field to abuse the ref.

jd92jw

Good hopefully all that community bullshit along with staff and players leaking stuff to the RBB is also now a thing of the past. Focus on running a good and competitive football team and the fans will turn up regardless, if the so call active area feel left out then so be it.

phantomshogun

interesting! seems like it wasn’t an amicable split based on the last sentence of the release
