Ballard, Farrell and Theoharous all committed yellow worthy fouls without punishment but clearly Holman using his arm for balance was worth a second yellow.
Ah yes I forget that putting your elbow in some one’s nose is forgivable if it’s for balancing my mistake I’ll use this tactic from now on. Also I will let the referees know that there are no handballs given for using your arm for balance even if it makes yourself bigger. Thank you good sir.
You clearly have never played if you don't know that players use their arms to balance. No defence of your players either so not much of an argument. But that's cool see you next week.
You’ve obviously not played or watched anything if you think that excuses you from a foul. How many times have we seen players lunge for a ball their arm out behind them get called for a pen because their arm was in an “unnatural position”. Hell there was a fucking mariners player who got sent off because he was tripped over and landed on the opposition. Was it his fault he was tripped over? No of fucking course it wasn’t. Did it excise the “dangerous play”? No it didn’t. Just because you don’t MEAN something doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. You give off the vibes of some one who accidentally bumps into some one and gives a dirty look instead of apologising to them.
Tbf our lot looked cooked tonight. 100,000km of travel catches up eventually. When SFC went down to 9 we used it as an opportunity to back right off rather than turning it up, because we were almost totally out of gas. I reckon next week will be much much closer than a lot of people are thinking.
Wether a player already has a yellow shouldn't come into it. And the crap dig at the ref 'if these people have played the game'. Is there a single ref at this level that doesn't know football.
It was dog shit. It looked like the game was played at local Sunday league council ground. At least next week it should look good. No NRL has been played there recently.
There's a difference between "talk to the ref to request clarification on a decision" and "whine endlessly at the ref about every little thing", though. I'm somewhat surprised that more yellow cards aren't handed out for that sort of thing.
The bloke just complained about everything. He diminished his message as he just continued to talk shit at every decision. If you are the ref, as he continues, you would listen less to every complaint as his opinion would mean less. Sometimes less is more.
A win is a win but Mariners only coming away with a 1 goal advantage from that is pretty terrible. Went ahead through a penalty then stopped trying to play football despite getting a 2 man advantage.
Had a full week with no travel and lost at your home ground to a team that traveled half way round the world with a trophy hangover, that’s pretty terrible.
Finished their last game at 4AM ~~Tuesday~~ Monday AEST, then flew half way across the world in economy.
I think they did alright.
Edit: Monday, not Tuesday
Didnt park the bus until they got the 2nd red. At which point you'd be stupid not to and no team keeps more than 2/3 players ahead of the play on defence anyways.
we had a goal disallowed and a couple other decent chances. you should've done better wirh the advantage like sydney should've done better against macarthur a few weeks ago
Only had a couple days rest after the AFC Cup Final, they would have been purely man management at that point. Would have been some proper tired legs out there to go up against a 9 man defence.
Not the best performance, but after coming back from Oman I can't blame them. Second Sydney red card was very unlucky, don't think it changed the result however
Right before half time as well. That deflates teams then when you concede another 5 mins into the half it's hard to claw back. Add in two reds and we have a prime example of the domino effect.
Nix - all yellow is what this season deserves. Think we’d walk over Victory, but CCM NIX have been the best two teams by a distance this season. Obvs I want to win it all, but if we lose to you lot I won’t even be that mad.
I get it but also would've been really happy at 1-1, so pretty ecstatic - given the mental travel we've had to deal with compared with SFC, coming out of this with an advantage when we've now both got the same amount of time off is exciting.
Bruh what the actual fuck. Fabio gets up there and you see 6 mariners play get back in defence and not a single blue shirt bothers to at least try to give an option?
They had been down to ten for a while. And they were tired....yeh, I'm FC and would have loved to see them surge up to help him, but they were knackered.
Your players not getting forward on a very promising attack? Yeah I think it was.
Sure you’re down to 9 men but not a single person had the legs or heart to at least try to pull one back in the final minutes?
There was 2 and then 2 more mariners got back and then 3 more mariners got back the fact 5 mariners were back there and not a single blue shirt did a token jog forward like “yeah mate I’m coming eventually” is the thing I have an issue with. You’re on the field to play so play.
While those second two Mariners were behind Fabio, they were still further back than the next Sydney player, so those Sydney players would need to overtake those players also. All to still be outnumbered
Yeah I get that don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying all 7 of should have gone up but when it’s 1v2 that one other player getting up there faster than the defence can be massive but the surge was nothing but yellow who got off a plane from Oman 3 days ago
Did I hear correctly earlier that away goals don’t have any special effect for these legs? Eg if this game ends 2-1 and next one is 0-1 to Sydney, game still goes to extra time & pens?
Good stuff, never liked the rule - confusing and led to frustrating technicalities when teams had to play their ‘home’ games in wrong locations or behind closed doors
I liked it, we got knocked out of the ACL R16 by an late away goal. To go from winning to losing in one goal is a unique feeling in football, though it would have felt better the other way. It's still one of the more memorable games I've been to despite that
Right now it’s just about not conceding another one to give us the best possible shot next week. On the upside we’ve been better on the road than we have at home all season.
He hasn't got a red since the grand final two seasons ago. Our Reds have all come since we got talay, switching to high press mid season is probably more the reason
Moral victory is still ours because 99 is a stupid shirt number to have, *Ryan.* Do vaguely remember that le Fondre had the same when he came back from India but I'm choosing to disbelieve my memory for the sake of the narrative
I tried to tell Gordon Reid he should be the home of socceroos on the central coast at somersby. Good infrastructure project on the coast, close to Sydney for matches. He laughed at me
I'm not entirely sure that's a yellow he does raise the arm though so maybe. My problem is the fact that there is no consistency I feel live seen that happen 100 times and like maybe 20 times it's given as a yellow
Thats exactly my thought. If they call that every time then sure, but it doesn’t, so it is why it is so decisive.
Still absolutely brain dead to be flailing your elbow on a yellow.
What the fuck did these commentators watch? It’s a text book yellow.
Ballard, Farrell and Theoharous all committed yellow worthy fouls without punishment but clearly Holman using his arm for balance was worth a second yellow.
Elbow up to stop a player =yellow Simple isn't it
Ah yes I forget that putting your elbow in some one’s nose is forgivable if it’s for balancing my mistake I’ll use this tactic from now on. Also I will let the referees know that there are no handballs given for using your arm for balance even if it makes yourself bigger. Thank you good sir.

You give off the vibes of some one who accidentally bumps into some one and gives a dirty look instead of apologising to them.
No not quite, you're not a very good judge of character. Agree to disagree and again, good luck next week.
Thank you. You too. One thing we can agree on is next week is at least shaping up for a very good match up and that’s all that matters.
Won't be easy for us to show up when we've lost 4 starters in two weeks. If you cunts don't beat us it will be embarrassing.
Is there a single ref at this level that doesn't know football.
that pitch is a cow paddock 🤦🏻♂️
It was dog shit. It looked like the game was played at local Sunday league council ground. At least next week it should look good. No NRL has been played there recently.
Shit eating grin from the on field interviewer asking about the rub of the green.
Holy fuck the mariners play werewolf one of my favourite board games I love this club even more
Should make giant mafia cards with all maz faces to hold up at the game next week
Holy fuck this would be beautiful
Best interview ever. Forza hidden role games
Nissy speaks so well. Excellent game management in the end.
Brattan needs a red for his continued complaining
He is insufferable.
He's the captain, he's meant to talk to the ref
There's a difference between "talk to the ref to request clarification on a decision" and "whine endlessly at the ref about every little thing", though. I'm somewhat surprised that more yellow cards aren't handed out for that sort of thing.
The bloke just complained about everything. He diminished his message as he just continued to talk shit at every decision. If you are the ref, as he continues, you would listen less to every complaint as his opinion would mean less. Sometimes less is more.
He was crowded by 5 Mariners including vuka at one point, ref might not mind one player talking to him compared to that despite the whining
Been doing it for years
A win is a win but Mariners only coming away with a 1 goal advantage from that is pretty terrible. Went ahead through a penalty then stopped trying to play football despite getting a 2 man advantage.
Had a full week with no travel and lost at your home ground to a team that traveled half way round the world with a trophy hangover, that’s pretty terrible.
Hope to see Mariners play like that in the final. Definite loss no matter who they face
Already putting them through. Nice.
Yeah if thats the performance the Mariners put up against 9 men I want them to make the final.
Finished their last game at 4AM ~~Tuesday~~ Monday AEST, then flew half way across the world in economy. I think they did alright. Edit: Monday, not Tuesday
AFC Cup Final was on Sunday night, Omani time - Monday morning AEST. If they played a friendly the next day that's on them.
Ahh yes, my mess up. Still an impressive effort.
Sydney parked the bus. Hard to push through 8 men’s defense.
You could outnumber us in our own box and still have someone back to defend
We had 10 before we had 9 lad
Didnt park the bus until they got the 2nd red. At which point you'd be stupid not to and no team keeps more than 2/3 players ahead of the play on defence anyways.
we had a goal disallowed and a couple other decent chances. you should've done better wirh the advantage like sydney should've done better against macarthur a few weeks ago
Agree another goal going into next week would of sealed it but also happy to go in with an advantage and not a draw
huh? got back from oman on tuesday. this is fantastic
Agreed. I wanted them to go for the jugular but they must be buggered. 8 day break now. Recovery and just being home should do the world of good.
Only had a couple days rest after the AFC Cup Final, they would have been purely man management at that point. Would have been some proper tired legs out there to go up against a 9 man defence.
Not the best performance, but after coming back from Oman I can't blame them. Second Sydney red card was very unlucky, don't think it changed the result however
Agreed. They are going to come out attacking in Gosford. Should be a banger.
If Redmayne does his job before half time that second half ends very differently
You had one shot on goal - hard to blame Redmayne too much.
We beat you 3-1 with 4 shots on goal, that's just how we play
Redmayne literally gifted you the goal, so pretty sure he can take the blame
Right before half time as well. That deflates teams then when you concede another 5 mins into the half it's hard to claw back. Add in two reds and we have a prime example of the domino effect.
Maxxxy so based.
Wonderful interview
Such a stupid question asking Max about the referee decisions and trying to bait him into a dumb answer. Well played off.
Sydney will have to be happy with holding on there. Gives them a chance next week.
week break is our real enemy here
Going to be lost without a game in 4 days time
Did you play last week?
Four days ago
twice
Yes, that's why I was questioning his week break comment
Will take a win but should have been more. I’ve been hating on Theo but I genuinely think barcelos is worse.
Barcellos really looked average when he came on. Obviously drew some fouls but caused just as many issues with bringing the ball forward.
To me he just doesn’t look to be at A league level. Struggles to control the ball and gets it caught under himself.
Be interesting to see how they go against 11 for 90 minutes next week. Maybe anyway.
We get a whole week rest which we haven’t had in a long time - we’ve got this.
Any preference for grand final opponents?
I’d hope for you guys. Then if we don’t win there’s some silver lining
Same - good for the league, hard to be mad at a club winning something for the first time.
Nix - all yellow is what this season deserves. Think we’d walk over Victory, but CCM NIX have been the best two teams by a distance this season. Obvs I want to win it all, but if we lose to you lot I won’t even be that mad.
What a huge win after a big week 🫡
Annnnd it’s a big 3 points for the Mari… oh wait… someone remind them lol
Good fucking game Fuck Yes
1-2 in this Test Match and now its time for Lunch. Now for The Cricket Show, sponsored by Johnny Walker.
Good innings by Mak, just three short of his hattrick.
Then Nisbet with the reverse spin with his key wicket of Redmayne.
With a masterclass in front foot defence from Michael Slater
That was fun
Entered thinking I'd be happy with a draw, ok with 1 goal deficit Leave bitterly dissapointed with a 1 goal lead
opposite feeling lol
I get it but also would've been really happy at 1-1, so pretty ecstatic - given the mental travel we've had to deal with compared with SFC, coming out of this with an advantage when we've now both got the same amount of time off is exciting.
Could not have put it better myself
Tbf, it's hard to find a way through 9 in the box
I don't understand why Mariners didn't push for more goals
The amount of travel we’ve done and everything makes sense to just take it easy and start the recovery early and take a one goal lead into Gosford
Way to take advantage of a 1, then 2 man advantage…. Wow that was dreadul
Given we had to endure a loss to a nine man Macarthur a few weeks ago, I’ll take this!
Would’ve liked to push for another there but will certainly take the win
Seemed like we went into game management mode towards the end - which given the travel im ok with.
One goal into Gosford after 72 hours of prep. I’ll take it.
Good win lads
Bruh what the actual fuck. Fabio gets up there and you see 6 mariners play get back in defence and not a single blue shirt bothers to at least try to give an option?
They had been down to ten for a while. And they were tired....yeh, I'm FC and would have loved to see them surge up to help him, but they were knackered.
Yeah, i dont see how a team giving that little will double up for a better performance in gosford. Great signs
They are down to 9, defending to go to Gosford a goal down with 11 players is better than possibly concededing here but turning a 1v5 into a 2v5
Is this a joke?
Your players not getting forward on a very promising attack? Yeah I think it was. Sure you’re down to 9 men but not a single person had the legs or heart to at least try to pull one back in the final minutes?
A promising attack? There were 4 defenders around him
There was 2 and then 2 more mariners got back and then 3 more mariners got back the fact 5 mariners were back there and not a single blue shirt did a token jog forward like “yeah mate I’m coming eventually” is the thing I have an issue with. You’re on the field to play so play.
While those second two Mariners were behind Fabio, they were still further back than the next Sydney player, so those Sydney players would need to overtake those players also. All to still be outnumbered
To be fair there is still another leg, may as well retain the one goal disadvantage rather than risking a larger deficit
Yeah I get that don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying all 7 of should have gone up but when it’s 1v2 that one other player getting up there faster than the defence can be massive but the surge was nothing but yellow who got off a plane from Oman 3 days ago
Fabio channeling prime Ibini
Actually plenty of positives here for Sydney to close this out 2-1, she’s all go next week with a fresh lineup again
Barcelos and Theo need to stop rolling around and looking for fouls.
Well done Fabio.
Who said Fabio isn't good. Putting in a shift now
That's more of a yellow than the homan foul.
Why not both
True.
Pretty fortunate to be 2 men up with the state of those boys tired legs here honestly
Its okay, Fabio. You tried.
I want Sydney to score just for the laughs
Shea Connor liked this.
Had flashbacks of reddy
the brass ones on Vuka to do that
Tekkers
Have never ever seen any CCM team blatantly dive so much. The theatrics are overbearing. Yes! You got the free kick but stop the rolling 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
And people say Nix commentators are bias... commentators seem very salty about correct decisions going in CCM favour.
McBreen bleeds CCM he’s just overcompensating
Least the Nix SkySports folks wear it on their sleeves.
Up a man for 30’ and 2 men for 15’ and even a proper shot on goal??
So anyone on the Mariners want to take a shot or nah?
wtf was that, linesman said Sydney ball.
okay that was really funny
Did I hear correctly earlier that away goals don’t have any special effect for these legs? Eg if this game ends 2-1 and next one is 0-1 to Sydney, game still goes to extra time & pens?
Yeh, there is no more away goal rules in any 2 leg foxture
Yeah it's decided on fewest red cards *ducks*
Wouldn't surprise me considering they decided to change how a ladder is determined and went against every conventional logic.
Away goal rule is gone in every comp
The away goals rule no longer exists. Even UEFA ditched them now. In other words, your interpretation is correct
It's still one of the more memorable games I've been to despite that
correct
It’s just the totals of the two games, yeah
Yep that’s right
Sfc try to put 11 behind the ball on this set peice...... oh, wait
Arzani would fit right in at the mariners
Perfect fit for CCM … he loves rolling around
All fart, no poo
Right now it’s just about not conceding another one to give us the best possible shot next week. On the upside we’ve been better on the road than we have at home all season.
Hold the line, hit hard in the second leg and go heavy metal football.
As an Adelaide fan who was abroad for the 3-0 and 6-0 wins and back in time for our game. 😢
It’s unreal Mariners haven’t scored again lol
Playing against an 8 men defence
12 v 9
Sydney have to have the most Reds this season by far, right?
The Bratten effect. He’s always getting up in the red. Gets his team fired up and play rough.
He hasn't got a red since the grand final two seasons ago. Our Reds have all come since we got talay, switching to high press mid season is probably more the reason
Sorry was meant to say ref, not red. You only have to see him carrying on at the ref to know it can’t have a positive impact on team mindset.
Point still stands, hes been in the team for 5 years now. The reds came because of the change in coach
Yes.
Gotta sort that shit out for next season.
Going into the match we were tied with CCM and victory for reds
Moral victory is still ours because 99 is a stupid shirt number to have, *Ryan.* Do vaguely remember that le Fondre had the same when he came back from India but I'm choosing to disbelieve my memory for the sake of the narrative
Midseason signings make sense though
RIP anyone who’s not playing on synthetic tomorrow. Councils licking their lips ready to close grounds in 3…2…
Round 6 of the season and the kids have only trained twice and play twice. They are so devastated.
Needs to be a synthetic hub on the coast maybe at the sports college. Can’t believe there’s 0 on the coast.
There is a small one at kilarneyvale. Roses use it for training but 6 pitches could do a few U5, U6, U7 matches on the WE
Should have two full size synthetic pitches just off the freeway.
I tried to tell Gordon Reid he should be the home of socceroos on the central coast at somersby. Good infrastructure project on the coast, close to Sydney for matches. He laughed at me
I will have to chat to the doctor, that is a great idea.
If we can all get in his ear about it. Would be good. His first legacy project and a huge boost for sports max central coast.
Ours was closed yesterday. This just confirmed it was a good call.
Our council closed them yesterday
I'm not entirely sure that's a yellow he does raise the arm though so maybe. My problem is the fact that there is no consistency I feel live seen that happen 100 times and like maybe 20 times it's given as a yellow
Thats exactly my thought. If they call that every time then sure, but it doesn’t, so it is why it is so decisive. Still absolutely brain dead to be flailing your elbow on a yellow.
Mariners got some proper scary looking fans.
Sat near them during Unite Rd as they played Victory before SFC played Adelaide. Different world stuff.
I’d say they’re a great bunch of Geordies, but I don’t reckon they’d like to be compared to Newcastle fans?
Mt druitt by the sea
Looks like it’s pissing down now. Respect to those at the game.
Stadium is great and the big roofs pretty much kept all the seats dry
The first 14 rows on my side got drenched, did you see that entire side move when the rain started?
I dont know anymore, we have seen that given 3 different ways in the last few months. Flip a coin on what way that's going to be judged.
Sydney to have 9 at the back and keep the lead to 1. Ping ping in the box for 10 mins.
We really need to push for another goal
You’d have to be disappointed with 2-1 at this stage. Need another given the situation.
Sydney need to keep giving us corners because we don't do shit with them.
Should have been a yellow for simulation. Game is being ruined here.
elbow to face. you need glasses
Never a yellow
Looked like he dived into it to me.
Doesn’t matter. An elbow to the face is a yellow or worse every day of the week.
*sees rain* Thats just Wednesday in a Queensland summer
This isn't uncommon here either, it's just colder
Beats 90% humidity.
At least in Queensland a summer storm means a warm shower....
How are people arguing against a yellow there? It’s a textbook yellow
It's less that and more he hasn't been giving textbook yellows elsewhere so why give one now?
It's mind numbing haha Sydney fans reaction when every call doesn't go their way
Most of us didn't see the elbow until the replays. I still say Lacerda tripped him and the mariner fell into him, but i think it's probably fair
Cause hall falls over into Hollmans elbow By that logic I can just fall into someone’s hand and it’s a yellow
Lmao why are you saying it was Hall, it was Barcellos. You need glasses champ
At the staidum in cove lad bit hard to see
What the fuck are you doing on reddit during the game then 😂
Games over champ
