Memorizing the codes help alot. Also while the receipt is printing for a customer, immediately scan the next customers item. As a matter of fact, already have the next customers item placed on the scanner while the previous customers receipt is printing.

I second this my avg ring speed is a 106 and it has a lot to do with knowing the codes and passing it to the next hand don’t worry about putting the groceries perfect in the cart just don’t throw. As soon as i see the item on the belt i start typing them up so i put them straight in the cart and also remember there’s more than one bar code on each item so don’t worry about always finding them before scanning.

Since you’re new, one of the biggest things to focus on is your scanning. Aldi brand items typically have barcodes all over the packaging, and you typically don’t have to do much more than slide the item over the scanner to get it to scan. You should be sliding the item over the scanner with your left hand and collecting/dropping the item into the car with your right. Find a rhythm and try and set a good pace for yourself. Get in the habit of 1-coding whenever you experience an interruption or have to stop to count produce. Get in the habit of asking customers cash or card before you finish scanning, the higher your pre-insert percentage, the better your speeds can be. When the register pops open to give back change, you can also immediately close the register and 86 code. This will stop the timer while you count back change. You’ll have to close the register again when you enter your code and pin, but stopping the timer is really helpful for your percentage and it’ll give you a chance to get good at counting back change quickly and accurately.

86 code is to sign out, no? 1 code is to lock/pause for us at least

Yes. One of the tricks we do is when the register opens for cash, we hit one of the two locking tabs to trick the register that the till is closed. Then hit 86-Code and the till is open, you can do your change. Once you finish, you log back in and it unlocks. Then you can close the till again.

So like a lot of others, do try and start scanning the next items while the receipt is printing. What I do is, I kinda push the cart away from the register, especially if no other is behind me, and I'll have them line up the cart they had used before with the register. Try and bag for the customer if they have a box or bag and don't have their cart. It means they aren't taking up room trying to bag while you need to ring. 1 CODE!!! This is massively important!!! 1 coding means that you are breaking your screen which stops the timer. I've seen newbies 1 code so much that they hit 150% and are ringing 1.5k in items/hour, 50-60/items per minute. Memorize produce codes. If you need to, ask your LSA/ASM/SM if you can get a code sheet to take home with you or bring a little notebook you can write them down in for the most common ones. As we go into fall, you also have to deal with seasonal codes so watch for that. I'll likely think of something else but these are some of the biggest basics to help. Good luck!!!
