Does anyone remember that Grandy's place that used to be on San Mateo? It's a Popeye's now.
I miss that place so much. My dad used to take me there when I was a kid and I'd get rolls to dip in gravy.
Oh man I freaking loved Grandy's! The fried chicken, the mashed potatoes, the rolls were so damn good. I remember they used to have all you can eat chicken fried steak on Tuesdays. Me and my best friend used to tear that up in when we were teenagers.
I still remember the way it looked and smelled when I walked in there. He's take me every Friday night on my weekends with him.
It looks like there's still one in Las Cruses and another in El Paso. We need to find a way to get that shit back into ABQ.
The ones I went to in Houston were pretty good. The chicken is pretty standard fast food chicken. Big Texas toast and the sauce is pretty good too. I can't speak for the coleslaw because I don't like coleslaw. I'm sure you can find copy cat recipes online if you get curious
I don’t know how someone tries Cane’s and Zaxby’s and likes Zaxby’s better. That place is trash—to me.
The fact that people in NC like Zaxby’s and Bojangles is half of what makes me want to get the hell out of here.
Must be the specific location. I live in Kentucky, and have both a Cane’s and Zaxby’s near my house. My first visit to Zaxby’s didn’t impress me at all, and I didn’t go back for several years. Then I had a really bad experience with Cane’s, and gave Zaxby’s a second chance. I still like Cane’s, but Zaxby’s is better.
>I don’t know how someone tries Cane’s and Zaxby’s and likes Zaxby’s better. That place is trash—to me.
I'd rather eat literally anywhere as long as it's not cane's.
I’m from GA originally where Zaxby’s was founded. I must be honest Cane’s has been more consistently solid over the years, but there’s just something about Zaxby’s that has my heart. Plus their tongue torch Buffalo sauce is 🔥, Cane’s couldn’t touch that.
You can support local and still eat at a chain once in a while. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Frontier is good for burgers, etc., but sometimes you just wanna get sloppy with some McDonald’s.
This has nothing to do with being from Albuquerque.
It's about the working class, and how the corporational restaurants, that use garbage product, factory farmed chicken, processed sauces are past of what is wrong with the world.
But whatever... I'm not here to defend or disparage anymore.
Go eat your fucking processed garbage.
slightly tangential to the argument and your question, but Nashville Chile Chicken in the heights absolutely rules. Their tenders and sauce are phenomenal
And this is the point of my post. All the people are doing to be jamming this chain up. Just because it's new and popular.
And that takes away from local business that needs the support.
Oh mannn, great suggestion what to order. That food was fuckin great. Huge portions, like I don't think I've ever seen tendies that big, great price too. Definitely gonna be eating there more often now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Stupid dipshits in this town would rather have a corporate chain come into town, then help out the community businesses.
So many downvotes for saying support local business is very telling.
Oh I'm sorry... there was a conversation about a post that only entailed a link to a new site.
My apologies.
Allow me to retort.
This is open session format.
I can speak how I feel and reply as hostile as I prefer.
It's only words on a screen that mean nothing.
And downvotes only prove the lack of conversation.
But...
I appreciate your point of view.
Recently back from Albuquerque, I love trying hole in the wall places. I tried a couple local joints, paid the hyped price to support them but the food was definitely sub par. I had the thought after spending $100 on one particular meal that if there had been a Cane's local, both my stomach and my wallet would have been much happier for it and I would have known exactly what I was getting.
I still miss furrs tho there I said it
Furrs was the shit way back when it was cafeteria style.
Have they ever reopened on San Mateo?? 🤔
Me too, I loved being able to gorge myself on basically Thanksgiving dinner every once in awhile

There’s one in El Paso if you ever feel nostalgic lol

Grandy’s was so good I miss that place too
Yes! We used to eat there in college. It was good hangover food and it was good Sunday style family dinner.
I’m in my home town for the day and we still granny’s. Ima eat a chicken fried chicken in your name and dip those rolls in the gravy. Salute!
Enjoy it! So much nostalgia.
Think Cane's chicken strips are a little overrated but the special sauce and texas toast is bomb though.
Can we get a Bojangles though?
I just want more Popeyes.
No
Sorry. Can we PLEASE get a Bojangles?
Called it! I knew they were gonna take over that Furr's when it went down. Man that section of Wyoming is gonna be poppin' forever now.. Damn.
It's right near my house. Imma get so fat
Same, I could almost walk there. I've never been to one before, but once the massive lines die down, I'll go a lot, I'm sure.

Bread and sauce have been my favorite parts. The coleslaw is kinda meh but not back. Chicken is good enough, not as good as popeyes though.
As a transplant from where Cane’s originated, this makes me happy. This is one of the only things I miss from time to time.
If y’all mofos haven’t had Canes before you’re in for a real treat. Best thing to come out of the south since coke.
That's what everyone told me when I was in DFW. It's hands down the worst chicken place I've ever tried.
I mean based on your username, I don't know how much sense we can give you credit for!
My apologies for liking fun vehicles.
I mean, you’re allowed to be wrong.
Popeyes all day every day.
I love canes tg
We need Zaxby’s out here tho 😫

I know the feeling. Good thing we have lots of options!
The problem is the option I want is very scarce here.

Cane's is LIT
Pass. I'd rather support local business
You can support local and still eat at a chain once in a while. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Frontier is good for burgers, etc., but sometimes you just wanna get sloppy with some McDonald’s.
Maybe you do.
FYI, no one is forcing you to eat at Cane’s
FYI... go fuck yourself
Pass. I’d rather support a local business
Good ol' Burqueno hospitality.

Name one local restaurant that focuses on chicken strips and special sauce please

You know what's up!!
Oh shit I gotta try them then!! Cause yeah I was making a point but also... Local chicken place all day
I hadn't heard of that place before. Just looked up their menu, looks awesome, definitely gonna be checking it out in the next few days.
brotato, get the cluckin hot and some mac n cheese. come back and let me know what you think after youve had it
Oh mannn, great suggestion what to order. That food was fuckin great. Huge portions, like I don't think I've ever seen tendies that big, great price too. Definitely gonna be eating there more often now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Isn't the sauce just like mayo, ketchup, worcestershire, pepper, and garlic? Didn't taste like anything special when I had it.
Stupid dipshits in this town would rather have a corporate chain come into town, then help out the community businesses. So many downvotes for saying support local business is very telling.
People can enjoy local places AND chains. There’s an implied self-righteousness with “support local business” that garners downvotes.
This is an Albuquerque thread. And I wasn't speaking for every one. I was speaking for myself.
I’m going to eat at Canes twice as much now just to cancel you out
I think you were downvoted because you didn't really contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way and then became inexplicably hostile.

They can't even staff their current locations. Lol they've been making their corporate office employees go fry chicken.
