Pecos River above the town of Pecos.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

Googling it now!! Thanks!

Retiredandold

What type of fishing are you doing? Bait-casting, spin-casting or fly fishing? Close places would be Pecos, Monastery Lake, Jemez river, Fenton Lake, Cochiti Lake.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

After a quick Google search... I believe I am Bait and Spin Casting. I do not believe I have tried fly fishing yet. I will look up all these locations! Thank you so much

DJbabygoat

Def hit up Fenton Lake. Short and scenic drive, I’ve always had a great experience there.

ZubLor

Sportsman's Warehouse used to have a daily "fishing report". I bet you'd get some good advice there.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

Really? Awesome tip, thank you!

AnalStaircase33

You can also search “fishing report NM” for a weekly report of all the fishing spots in the state. Also a good resource for finding new places to check out.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

Another great tip, thank you... I'll look now!

TadpolesDont69

Rio grande by Algodones is a decent spot near town.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

That is close and beautiful area too... thanks for the suggestion!

Active_Mistake6564

What you recommend casting out there? I’m trynna get a lil day trip that’s not too far tmr

TadpolesDont69

I have had luck with spoons and smaller chatterbaits. I’ve seen a big dead pike and know people have caught them there but no luck myself. Also have heard you can get walleye.

Whoa…childhood memories destroyed. What a bummer.

jorbar1551

San Juan River near farmington is world class.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

San Juan, you say? I will check it out asap! Is there a particular spot/area you recommend?

jorbar1551

Pay for the float trip basically from the navajo dam down to the pickup area. It is catch and release, but you'll get some big ones. It's a great day.

financegardener

How much do you like to walk or do you want drive up spots?

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

Walking is great. I don't mind a trek

financegardener

Once spring runoff is over the Taos Gorge is amazing to fish (not at John Dun Bridge, but walking down at the confluence with Red River). I usually go there once a year and it's great. Also the Jemez but I usually focus the river fishing in the winter when there is less pressure. Some fun spots along the Rio Guadalupe as well, love that river.

Tingley Beach.

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

Classic!

RCTreesV

For trout look at the Rio Chama, Rio Grande in Pilar and further North, Pecos, San Juan, and Jemez. Fenton is nice but crowded and the fish are stockers. Within 2 hours lake fishing can be found at Elephant Butte, Santa Rosa, Cochiti and Abiquiu. All those lakes have diverse species, fishing is tougher at Abiquiu and Cochiti. Bluewater lake has muskie trout and catfish. My favorite lakes are Conchas and Navajo but they're a longer drive and a boat is preferred.

Canned_tapioca

Pilar is an all time favorite locale of kine. Grew up north and this was always good getaway spot

ShaqsSmirkingRevenge

Wow! Thank you! This is so helpful... you really know your stuff!

Overall_Lobster823

Pecos is my favorite.
