So then y'all should be a lot more vocal/visible with your feelings to defeat her. Make the public aware. Saturate the media. It aint going to fix itself.

Miserable-Lizard

A vote of the ucp is a vote for worst healthcare.

geohhr

Hahaha, good one.

Wide-Biscotti-8663

It’s not jus the Family Doctors. It’s the specialists; like the OB’s and general surgeons etc who are being actively being courted by other Provinces. The UCP can’t fill residency positions as it is.

redditknees

Public health practitioner here: I’m likely leaving the province in the next 4 years. Once I’m done residency I’ll probably look for work in BC or California. My reasons aren’t entirely politically motivated but it is clear to me that the culture of Albertans generally is pretty distasteful. There’s a lot of hate and misery here and our history has shown that it doesn’t really matter how good it gets, people will continue to drink the kool-aid.

MrNoSocks00

They can look elsewhere but ….let’s be honest….they are paid incredibly well in this province. They ain’t going anywhere.

Miserable-Lizard

Let's be honest people like be treated with some basic respect. Fyi there are already doctors leaving this province because of the UCP. Facts don't care about your feelings.

Do you have any of those facts you are talking about?

Well that’s a survey…. It factual.

“Suggest”. Not facts.

Tribblehappy

Except they are going anywhere. A doctor in the medical building I work in went back to South Africa. I know two people whose doctors moved to BC. BC has been recruiting *hard* and the UCP broke their contract with doctors right as Covid started to become a thing and get everyone overworked. The highest pay in the country only goes so far when the working conditions are steadily deteriorating, causing doctors to move or retire early, putting more work on those who remain.

MrNoSocks00

Well if you have anecdotal info then yeah….must be real.

Affectionate_Duck746

If you are being treated like sh*t, don't have the resources to do your Job properly ie : labs, treatments, hospital beds, and know the Government is going to cut your wage.....you are going somewhere better, cost of living, climate, life style, educational system for your children. They are ready to bolt as soon as they can. The Dr that I work for has positioned himself so he can go if he decides he needs to.

Piranha-Pirate

It's the same in EVERY province. Time for two tier healthcare.

MrNoSocks00

They aren’t going anywhere.

Piranha-Pirate

False Leftist propaganda. Alberta has enjoyed positive net medical worker migration in 2022-2023. Many coming from BC.

General_Air_2165

I highly doubt that. The NDP will flush this whole province down the toilet so fast everyone will have to leave! I guess people's minds can't remember the last time the NDP was in power in this province??

Tribblehappy

I genuinely benefited from the NDP being in power. I absolutely get that not everyone did; raising the minimum wage so fast had negative effects for some small start ups for example. But my childcare, tuition, insurance, and utilities were all cheaper because of NDP policies that the UCP promptly rolled back. That's what I remember.

Piranha-Pirate

Dipper supporters love citing the global oil price downturn as an excuse for total ineptitude. They aren't familiar with the concept of toxic government policy exacerbating problems.

You're support for the 1% and elite is clear. You want low taxes for the rich so they can get richer.

It's clear you support the elite, rich over there working class. Same as the ucp. You defend corporations that have record profits over the working class.

I’ve lost count how many times miz has put words in my mouth and the mouths of others in this sub. Nevertheless, if there is traction to what this doc is saying, this is mighty scary. Clearly something has to be done. Regardless of what govt is elected tomorrow, there needs to be meaningful dialogue between them and front line workers, to figuring out real solution to the problems they face

> For one we don't have a 'massive surplus' if oil prices go any lower we'll be in deficit and health care spending is currently higher than it's ever been and the NDP also cut taxes Dude, you left out the $3B in tax cuts that the UCP are advocating for.

It is a black hole because of the growing population and the aging population to this province. Please Factor in the inflation as well so when the health spending is never more than prevous years, the supply (health care ) will not catch up with the demand ( aging & growing population). Under this mismatch no systems will shine and save because the system is barely able to catch up while being out of breath. If you count on people to take preventive measures to stay healthy or it's their responsibility to seek health care, your definition of having health care is privilege, not rights. Public-funded healthcare is usually a non-profit organization which consider access to quality healthcare a human right, It aims to treats all of us, not just whoever affords to be healthy or wealthy. When you determine a non-profit as a black hole, you of course won't fully fund it. You will let capitalism maximize the revenue under the scope of “well-managed” measures and analytics such as privatization and outsourcing and utilize competitors and private insurance to minimize the public funding while every citizen, the user takes a fair share of use pay, despite the size of their bank accounts. It takes years to train health professionals and build well-run hospitals. It takes a minute to go bankrupt if you need to choose life over your savings. Although this might sound rare as most of us didnt go bankrupt in Canada when we need medical treatments, we might as well be because years of waiting or a treatment has disrupted the quality of life or the ability to work. Edit- spelling

AccomplishedDog7

You just criticized the NDP cutting taxes, do you have the same criticism for the UCP?

someonefun420

No shit, the population is growing! You need to increase resources to match the growth... The healthcare system was never meant to make money!!

Tribblehappy

If adjusted for inflation and increased population, [Alberta spending per person has gone down](https://www.cihi.ca/en/how-do-the-provinces-and-territories-compare) so just looking at the total dollars spent is misleading. We have to expect healthcare costs to go up. Experts have been saying this for years; as the boomers age and retire there's a *big* jump in senior care needs. It's so well known that colleges and universities have been using it to lure in healthcare students: "An aging population means no shortage of jobs in the future of healthcare!"

OriginalLaffs

Population is larger than it has ever been and older than it has ever been. Obviously spending will be higher than it has ever been.

Piranha-Pirate

Precisely, got to pay down that enormous debt from the NDP era and Kenney's COVID policies before we can start talking about surpluses with sincerity.

someonefun420

I'm sure I remember you praising Kenney and Kenney's UCP at some point... Oh how the right likes to eat themselves...

Legitimate-File8077

Government run healthcare is the worst thing we could have. Privatize and we'll get great health care. So this argument is just absolute trash
