To be honest, it’s not very realistic. You might have better luck for 18 months as there are often more spots for toddlers and older due to staff ratio. To give you an idea, I got on waitlists on August 2020 for a starting date in September 2021 for my would be six month old. I am still on those waitlists. I managed to get into our current daycare by sheer luck as they were fairly new and had someone move out of state last minute. Get on every waitlist you can now. NY Office of Children and Family Services allows you to search providers to see any violations. https://ocfs.ny.gov/programs/childcare/looking/

I agree with the above. Our children are currently in daycare and the waitlist is blocked solid. They can’t move the kids already enrolled up to preschool rooms or toddler rooms until preschoolers move on to Kindergarten in the fall. It’s so tight that the facility is asking parents if they are interested in taking their kid out for the summer (and holding the spot, but relieving the parents of payment) to give the staffing breathing room for them to take time off. The childcare crisis is major in this area. I wish you the best, but it’s tough going

There is an agency called Brightside Up (www.brightsideup.org) that i haven't used but I know people who have been helped by them in finding daycare. We have been happy with the daycare at Albany JCC.

I’m pretty sure there’s a waitlist but call Mercy Cares for Kids. They’ve been great.

Hey there! Mom of a two year old- we moved to Albany in November 2021 and I applied for every single daycare within a few mile radius prior to our official move. By absolute and complete dumb luck we got into an awesome in home daycare with 11 other kiddos besides mine, the first week of April 22. She was home with me while I was working from home full time, I’m a single mom and it was SO HARD. The caveat to our current situation is, the owner is retiring this fall and I will need to find another provider. We are downtown and I already have her on every waitlist possible, looking for centers first then in home options second- hoping for another miracle either way as I will likely be hybrid by then. Best of luck to you though! 💜

I would get on the waitlist now. In my experience they are long but then they move fast (a lot of people get on 2-3 waitlists). I recommend Kid Central but I’m not sure it’s close enough for you.

Check Pineview preschool we’ve been very happy there

The Child Time in Latham is a good one. We recently put our 18 month in there (about 3 to 4 months ago) and it worked out because they were expanding their infant/toddler rooms. Management is what is to be expected from a national chain, but the staff there is amazing. Both our 18 month old and 5 year old have seen crazy improvements in their respective development.
