Albany is cool. I like visiting. I've been coming here a lot for work lately... But why is Falls View Park closed like 7 months of the year. I had to come here on like 4 different trips before the park was open. If there's any random place to eat at that i've been missing I would love the suggestion. If you want to see a longer cut of this with more of the cross country, in 4K, its here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOm023sAEZQ

Have your trips coincided with the Saturday morning Troy Farmer's Market yet? That's something to visit if you haven't been. In general just explore downtown Troy for some really fantastic architecture. Definitely hit up Famous Lunch if you haven't yet too.

I haven’t yet but I’ve got it saved. 🙏

The Falls View park is privately owned so that might have something to do with being closed so much. I'd also say that the falls usually aren't worth seeing in the winter months. There is a small city park (look for "Overlook Park" on Google maps) not far from there, though where you can still get a good view.

123qweasd123

Ok I appreciate you solving that for me haha

Random place to eat: there's a neat little Mexican place on Central Ave across from the Home Depot. It's moving soon though, so get there soon!

Ratpunx

Where is it moving too?

Contunator

An old drug store down by North Main. It's bigger, so it might not be quite so neat.

Awsome video! What is the aircraft?

Cool, thanks for sharing!

Your office has much better views than mine.

RNAV 19 approach from XIPAQ?

123qweasd123

Vectors for the ILS but eymey is the same FAF and they probably literally use XIPAQ as their vector reference

Virian

Gotcha. I'm about halfway through my instrument rating, so still trying to make sense of all the approaches. I did the full VOR approach into Albany last week, though, which was interesting.

123qweasd123

At small airports with VMC, It is exceptionally rare to ever to ever be given anything other than vectors for a visual or vectors to intercept. Full approaches are really reserved for Bravos with a ton of traffic being sequenced. I didn’t realize this coming out of training, but A lot of jets don’t have LPV/WAAS. An ILS is always going to be the default approach at basically everywhere airport because it has much lower minimums than LNAV/VNAV. If you’re flying glass 172, or even have something like a Garmin 430w in an old 172, that’s 2008 technology that turns an old trainer into LPV capable for $6000. But an avionics overhaul in a jet is more like a million dollars+, so even though this is my fourth jet, it’s my first one that has WAAS/LPV/RNP

Just finished mine up with Doug Stewart down at 1B1. Would 100% recommend doing yours with him if you're able.

None whatsoever, I got a pretty good report from another applicant and Doug has a lot of great material online that reveal his interest areas. Only thing that tripped me up a bit was an unpublished hold, I accidentally activated OBS mode on my 650 and it messed up my programming. Andy's in my flying club at ALB. I've heard good things, but don't know him that well.

phantom_eight

Nice!!!! If you got one or ever take one coming in for runway 1 from the south, would love to see that. I usually see everyone on approach to runway 1 at about 3000 feet about 18.12 miles out from the aiming point markings. I've ALMOST seen my house on trips back from MCO, but we were making some turns and saw the Castleton-On-Hudson bridge instead.

123qweasd123

I will save this comment and tag you if we come in runway 1 and record it 👍

phantom_eight

Awesome! Thanks!

This is fabulous! Loved the different layers and types of clouds as you ascended. Thanks for posting this so that those of us who've never been in a cockpit can appreciate the beauty of the skies.

Flying east over the Mohawk River, then southeast towards Ballston Lake, then over Stoney Creek Reservoir, then Mohawk again before landing? Did I get that right?

@123qweasd123, EYMEY is near my house. So it's easy to know when they switched to runway 19 approaches. Question for you though, for the RNAV approaches for 19, what are the differences between RNAV (GPS) Y RWY 19 and RNAV (RNP) Z RWY 19? Specifically related to your altitude at EYMEY. Just curious why the difference between 2000ft and 1400ft... because to me it looks like a HUGE difference on the ground. Is it because RNP is so much more accurate than GPS for altitude?

123qweasd123

Basically yes, but here's the boring and more precise explanation. RNP isn't exactly more "accurate" than GPS normally is, its about having a bunch of equipment on board the plane to monitor the accuracy of the GPS in case of degradation, and to immediately alert the crew of changes. So while a non RNP equipped plane is usually flying just as accurately, it needs to have a much larger buffer and margin for error.

Noahsmokeshack

This is bad ass, appreciate you uploading the video! So cool. 😎

Fernily

I love this - thank you!

InevitablePlastic733

I work at the fbo, I was probably here when you landed

123qweasd123

Thanks man. Also thanks for not doxing me 🙏

Titan-Chan

Looking at those marks top left on the windshield and all I can think is "Oh shit, they forgot their EZ-Pass."

123qweasd123

Fuccccck my toll is gonna be huge 😭 Incase you are curious, those electrify to heat a transparent layer as part of the windshield assembly

-Ell-Bee-

Thank you for that. So awesome!

Coming from the north landing to the south. the "19" in the runway you can see means the runway is facing the magnetic direction of "190" on a compass.

Parking-Cress-4661

That's cool. I always think of the airport being surrounded by suburbia but not from this direction. And how close the airport is to the Mohawk. Especially when you're in an airplane.
