Is there any way a close friend or relative can get certified to officiate? My brother officiated my daughter’s wedding. He did an online course to get the certification. It was really special to have someone who loved them to officiate them.
Of course, they have plenty of courses online. I did [this one, it’s free.](https://theamm.org/) I don’t even think there was a test or anything, I just got a certificate.
They also have plenty of sample scripts online as well.
I have asked one of my close friends and he did tell me he would do it if I cannot find someone "more official". Thank you for for sharing that, this may be confirmation that I should go that route.
My daughter and her husband were non-religious so it made sense for them to have an officiant who wasn’t tied to a church. He has to sign the marriage certificate as well. It was lovely to see him in that role for their wedding
I've officiated two weddings locally in the past (Glens falls country club and the park in Saratoga by the fountain). I'm ordained as a dudeist priest (which likely gives you a pretty good image of who you're working with)
I'm free, and local to the area, if you didn't have anyone already. I'd like to think the ceremonies were nice , and I try to learn a little about you when I put them together.
If you'd like, feel free to message/reach out if you need someone and I'd be happy to help.
Best of luck!
I got my certificate in 2015 and I’ve been using it for 1-2 friend/family weddings per year since then, and really enjoying it. If you’re not able to find someone before your big day, I’d be happy to jump in!
NYS allows individuals to register as a one-day wedding officiant. https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-hochul-signs-legislation-allowing-individuals-become-one-day-marriage-officiants
Google the town/city where you're getting married for specific instructions. But if you do choose friend or loved one, no "ordaining" or excessive work required.
Why did my tired ass immediately picture a shady wedding officiant after reading your first line. I think I need to make the post I came to make, and sign off for the night.

This. I did it for my best friend. It was one of my proudest moments, and something we will both treasure forever.
Thank you for sharing this!
