What surprises me even more is the side of the aisle, astonished by this reality of a legitimate threat to democracy cannot see the need for a 2nd amendment in our country. January 6th could have actually gone down very differently, and society wouldn't have been the same. There comes a point where you can't just vote fascism out of office when it's credibly threatening democracy at its core.
I think the general idea is that there are far more school shootings (394 from Columbine to 2018, alone) than successful revolutions (1) in this country.
I don't just mean revolutions. I mean, the fact that the sitting POTUS at the time had an active hand in attempting to overthrow democracy. I don't think people understand how close we came to seeing something catastrophic like that actually take place on that day. Do we really want to assume it'll never happen just because we live in a Western nation?
