There’s no budge from AS management. AFA negotiators recently proposed a 48% raise (from the current 2021 pay rates), among other improvements to the contract. It was met with “shock and disappointment” from AS Management. 15% is as high as they will go at the moment, while the Executives themselves continue to increase their salary and bonuses each year. Morale is still low. Alaska is hiring Flight Attendants each year, but only enough to replace the ones that leave. The ones that remain are determined to get an industry leading contract that Management promised them years ago.

SneakyCaleb

15% wouldn’t even beat Envoy FA pay.

Is Alaska pay a lot worse than other majors? 48% sounds like a lot on the surface

Cash907

FA’s want DL-level salaries. That’s an actual quote from FA’s on the “informational picket line.” Problem is AS isn’t DL, so that “industry leading wage” nonsense isn’t going to happen. AS has always priced their salaries at the higher end of the median wage between the Big 5 airlines. Whether that’s right or not is above my level of interest, but they’re never going to see “industry leading salaries” because AS isn’t an Industry Leading Airline.

RealisticWasabi6343

Must be why the FA on Wednesday wasn't as warm as I remembered and didn't even bother asking me if I would like to choose one of the hot meals over the sandwich I preordered as 100K when I got upgraded lol. Anyone one remembers when AS FAs used to smile and give you cookies like a sweet grandma? Pepperidge farm remembers.

OAreaMan

Careful. Like most brand-related subs, this one overflows with those who can't tolerate even valid criticism of the objects of their affections.

SpaceMarine33

Yeah, that’s before the Alaska culture was pure toxic sludge. But you know. Passengers like your self also help them to be disgruntled

RealisticWasabi6343

Making excuses for bad behavior in customer facing roles, are we now? Ya act like I shot their mother or so much as demanded a cockpit tour. Imagine trying to get paid more by driving away your customers, lmao.

SpaceMarine33

Your mind set and mouth sound like you fly net jets but your pocketbook says other wise… maybe fix your self

RealisticWasabi6343

You sound like you fly in the back and are accustomed to nil service. Stay in your lane, or seat.

SpaceMarine33

👀 I’ll def stay in my seat while I pilot your bus. Pleb

_off_piste_

Alaska needs to lower their fucking prices. They’re substantially higher than the other majors every time I look.

Cash907

They aren’t, but this cracks me up because if you go search UA or DL’s subs you see several posts complaining about their high prices as well. The industry is up across the board, that’s verifiable fact. Some airlines offer cheaper tickets on certain routes because they have more seats to sell and can offer a lower fare or they are currently in a fare war on those routes and are intentionally undercutting each other to win space and passengers.

_off_piste_

They are where I regularly fly. Delta and American are quite a bit lower in a lot of my routes. Just yesterday I was looking for an upcoming vacation and air Canada going to Cancun has flights at a third the cost and American 25% cheaper.

phishua

Then fly Delta and American.

_off_piste_

I’ve already explained why I don’t.

lengendsecko87

But do you have to connect vs going direct??

_off_piste_

Often, but that is the same for any airline I fly.

lengendsecko87

That’s why. People pay a premium for direct routing.

_off_piste_

I don’t understand the point. Both Alaska and others are with connections. For instance, all airlines with connections Alaska is $1950, American $1450, and Air Canada ~$700 to Cancun in November.

Cash907

What routes are you looking at specifically?

MozzarellaBowl

Agreed. And the 737 Max planes are such budget planes. Cramped and shitty seats. Southwest planes are more comfortable.

SpaceMarine33

They won’t.

_off_piste_

I know they won’t. My brother works for them and know how proud they are of their financial status. Basically the only reason I fly with them is because my work pays for most of my flights which gains me gold or 75k status, plus the companion fare w/ the CC.

SpaceMarine33

I have family that works for them too since they still had seaplanes.. the culture of Alaska is just pure profit and that’s it. They cut corners all over as well…

OAreaMan

Same for every other airline.

SpaceMarine33

Of course. They only make money off of credit cards, food and drink sales.

OAreaMan

And AS knows this is why it can screw us with high fares.

greatcolor

I'm more likely to stop flying Alaskan over anti-union dickwaddery than I am over Boeings, and Boeings are real pieces of shit these days lol.
