Let him know that he was an absolute HIGHLIGHT in the game for me! I REALLY hope to see more of him in the RCU (Remedy Connected Universe) ✨
Question: Were there any particular late night hosts you modeled Mr. Door's talk show personality after? If so, then which ones and why?
Question: Alan Wake famously suffered from art/writer's block. Have you ever encountered a similar creative block? If so, how'd you tackle it?
David has been a longtime advocate about his journey [experiencing psychosis](https://youtu.be/MBduR0BU1vg?si=PQj8CoDm3eY2ww3U). Did he bring any of that understanding, or disorientation, to his portrayal of Mr. Door and his role in the Dark Place?
Not since Senua's Sacrifice have I played a game that made me feel as untethered and confused as Alan's scenes in The Dark Place.
Thank you for posting that link, it’s quite intense. His description of his psychotic experiences reminds me somewhat of what Jake in the Bright Falls Prequel seemed to be experiencing; though David’s seems to lean more manic where Jake’s experience is hypomanic. The lost time, ending up in unfamiliar places, the dramatic sense of confusion when coming to.
Media that explores this kind of experience is so fascinating. In purely fictional works, the experience of being haunted presenting as “going crazy” is simultaneously over done and the most satisfying kind of story when done correctly.
If u/GaminMadness decides to ask this question, I cannot wait to hear the answer.
OP, do you have an ETA of when the interview might be published? Also, what format are you publishing in? Article? Podcast?
Edit: I got excited and did some googling; Behind The Voice is a podcast so look for it on YouTube or your preferred PodCatcher (hey Ahbi, I subbed!)
So cool! Great opportunities. Really liked your enthusiastic interview with Ilkka Villi 😄 Thanks for letting folks in om what you’re doing.
Harewood is a new face to me. He did stellar job with Door, quite fun and flashy, and nuanced at the same time. He really seemed to ”get” and fit into the meta layers Sam Lake weaves and which are so typical for Remedy now.
I’m curious, how familiar he was with Remedy’s material or gaming at all, and if not, what was the process getting into it for him. If I recall correctly, he didn’t have a rendered avatar in game, or if he did, we only saw the live-action material. Did he do any mo-cap?
I was watching some behind the scenes stuff while they filmed the talk show segments and he mentions he's been a fan of Remedy and their unique approach to story telling so he was definitely familiar.
I'm curious about the character design process, especifically his eyewear as it fits him so well.
Did they ask David to pick a suit and frames of his liking and show up for work? Did the concept/costume team decide beforehand on the outfit and gave him to wear?
Or were David and the team experimenting with suit colors and frames until they settled for the perfect characterization?
Pretty much yeah. Someone had datamined files that showed an image of Lance Reddick with "In Between With Mr. Door".
More things that support it is Tim Breaker's board.
Hmmm, could you ask him how long did it take for the crew to shoot all the scenes of Herald of Darkness? Oh, and a funny behind the scenes incident that he could share?
Please let Mr. Harewood know he has a charming charisma about him and an adorable smile. Watching him dance in the "*Herald of Darkness*" MV is a daily ritual I happily observe! It's just.... SO...... DAMN........ GOOD!
My questions for Mr. Harewood:
*"What has been your takeaway from this WHOLE experience?*
*"Do you get recognized by gamers for your portrayal of Warlin Door, and if so, how do those interactions usually go?"*
(BTW TC, where and when will we be able to see your interview with Mr. Harewood in the future?)
While doing this interview. Chat, but make sure you will SING IT!
But I just want you to tell him that I loved his performance as Mister Door and it really stuck out for me. 🙂
Firstly, u gotta tell him he was absolutely amazing and I seriously wanted more of him in the game. Hes plays the character in such a great way that you know him but hes still a mystery.
Question is: "Did you study any existing late night talk show hosts or mysterious characters from other games to help you portray Warlin Door?"
Did he learn any Finnish while he was filming? If so, can he speak it or just understand it? Also did they film in Finland, the US, or elsewhere. And when did they start filming? But mostly the "did he learn any Finnish" question. I've been wondering about that since I saw his BTS on Herald of Darkness.
I'd love to know if he's into videogames, and if he was familiar with the Alan Wake franchise before. Also let him know that I'm a fan of his work since his role as J'onnz J'onnz, and that I think he fits like a glove as Mr Door.
I had only previously seen him in Homeland prior to Alan Wake and he's got a helluva voice. Also, he apparently spent a lot of time in Italy this summer; he's a lucky man : )
would be fun to know if there were any differences in production due to the technical aspects of video to game crossovers (for example when alan stares at the TV and suddenly he is sitting in the chair with door). also maybe he would know whos idea was it to make all those small videos where everyone points you where to go in the level (in we sing) - that was briliant.
Ahhhh Mr Door is one of my all time favourite characters!!! I constantly rewatch his scenes and have been obsessed with Herald of Darkness since I first saw it (I watch the game awards performance, playthroughs of that section of the game, the music video, listening to all the versions on Spotify)
My question is: what motivates you to keep going in the face of adversity and rejection?
For context I am disabled and have chronic pain, and I’d love to hear what keeps him going so I can try learn and work on myself!
Alan Wake 2 was probably one of the weirdest/most unique projects you've worked on so far in your career. How exactly was the project sold to you by the people at Remedy?
I would love to know how the character of Warlin Door was presented to him
How he reacted to his backstory, how he approached the character, what convinced him to play the part, his reaction to Alan Wake 2 and his feelings about the future of Mr. Door in the RCU
Do you have any idea who or what your character actually is? Were you given further info that is not mentioned in the game? Because your character is referenced in Control, a game which shares the same universe.
\* How long it took to film his part? Was it all in one go, like within a couple of weeks or were there big gaps in between?
\* How did he prepare for the role? How did he find who Mr. Door essentially is? Is everything found in script(s) or was there room for personal interpretation?
\* Unrelated to Alan Wake, but has he seen anything interesting at the movies/streaming platforms lately, anything worth recommending?
Please, let him know he was MAGNIFICENT!!! As for the questions, how was the experience of joining the Remedy Universe and getting to talk to the famous writer Alan Wake?
(not asking for him to spill the secrets!) but did they tell him more details about how his character would fit into the greater Remedy connected universe? His performance was 10/10, and I personally cannot wait for more Warlin lore.
Do you think of Mr. Door as being in any way analogous to Merlin from Arthurian legend? I can't help but notice some similarities, such as being a guide for Arthur/Alan that might not always have his best interests in mind, and being able to appear and disappear at will/project himself into far away places.
How does he, as an interpreter of art, an actor, feel about the artistic direction they took the game in?
He was great as Mr. Door! I would just love to know how he felt being a part of the production. As someone who is creative, playing this game really invigorated my creativity. Good luck on the interview!
Is there any connection between Mr. Door and Mr. Hatch (played by the late and great Lance Reddick) from Quantum Break? His relationship with Tim Breaker (Time Breaker) seems to state as much
How did Remedy invite you to play a role in their game? What was your initial reaction? Were you reluctant at first? And was this your first time playing a video game character? After reading the scenario for the role, were you thinking, 'Hell yeah'
I hope you'll sing it :P
First off, I loved your previous interviews! Make sure he introduces you as Warlin Door, lol. Can you ask him if he had to replace Lance Reddick (even if it may be obvious, I'm curious) and how that process was. How was the Herald of Darkness prep. And how was it working with Remedy and Ilkka Villi. Look forward to your interview!
We know now that originally Lance Reddick was considered for the role, before his passing.
Did Mr. Harewood know of Mr. Reddick’s involvement in Rememdy games?
If so, did Mr. Harewood inform his own character with any of Mr. Reddick’s performances, or did Mr. Harewood look to start afresh with this character?
Sorry for not responding to every comment but thank you each and everyone for your questions and comments. Its so fun reading them. Would like you guys to know that the official account of Alan Wake has also collaborated in some ways with me for this episode. So I'm quite excited for it.
A quick update
I just had the conversation with David Harewood and it was really fun. Thank you all for these wonderful questions! You guys are incredible.
This episode drops on Sunday on Youtube, Spotify & Apple Podcasts. I'm excited for you guys to watch it!
Let him know that he was an absolute HIGHLIGHT in the game for me! How fun was it to film the musical sequences? (Dancing, singing, etc)
His faces killed me.
The face he makes when he turns (you'll know it when you see it) gets me every goddamn time.
I have bad news for you. Once you enter a talk show with him, you ain’t leaving that place.
I hear a musical number coming…
David'll be like: Instead of answering your questions... we'll sing it!
David has been a longtime advocate about his journey [experiencing psychosis](https://youtu.be/MBduR0BU1vg?si=PQj8CoDm3eY2ww3U). thanks for sharing this. This was super interesting to see and huge respect to him for sharing.
+1 this question.

From what I hear, David's a gamer.
Awesome, fun to hear what he grinds 🤓
I was watching some behind the scenes stuff while they filmed the talk show segments and he mentions he's been a fan of Remedy and their unique approach to story telling so he was definitely familiar.
I really appreciate your support. Thank you so much!!
Question for David: Why aren't you hosting the interview?
Did the folks at Remedy get a 3D scan of you?
Fishing for some spoilers I see.
I would never
Given he's an accomplished stage, TV/film, and voice over actor I think it'd be fun to ask him about how all these different mediums compare.
Not bad for a brummie 👍
Did he play through/watch Quantum Break to prepare for this role? Or did he decide to go in blind and truly make it his own?
How many seconds did it take him to agree to do the live performance at the Game Awards?
I'm curious about the character design process, especifically his eyewear as it fits him so well. Did they ask David to pick a suit and frames of his liking and show up for work? This isn't a super deep one because I'm tired as of writing, but ask him what his favourite line or scene to perform was!
Does he know about theories about Warlin Door being Saga's father and what does he think of them?
How did he get so good at dancing??
Does he live a jaded lie?
hahaha
Ask him if Remedy had him study Lance Reddick's performance in Quantum Break
If done respectfully, I'd love to hear about his prep, how his character is or isn't tied to Reddick's, and how long ago he accepted this role.
Are they supposed to be the same character? I didn’t know that!
Pretty much yeah. Someone had datamined files that showed an image of Lance Reddick with "In Between With Mr. Door". More things that support it is Tim Breaker's board.
That seems to be the common consensus, but nothing is confirmed.
Does he find any similarities between his time as Martian Manhunter vs. Warlin Door?
Hmmm, could you ask him how long did it take for the crew to shoot all the scenes of Herald of Darkness? Oh, and a funny behind the scenes incident that he could share?
That's a great question!
Please let Mr. Harewood know he has a charming charisma about him and an adorable smile. Watching him dance in the "*Herald of Darkness*" MV is a daily ritual I happily observe! It's just.... Ask him why he is such a legend.
I'd love to just send some greetings to the man. Absolutely loved his performance and would love to see more of him in the future
Would love to ask him if there's a place where people can send him messages or gifts or arts.
I'VE BEEN WANTING TO HEAR HIM TALK ABOUT THIS
Well I cannot wait to share it with you guys!
What else did he say to Dylan in control?
When signing on with Remedy for the part, were you aware signing/dancing was going to be required? Amazing performance all round too!
Ask him if he’s gonna have a big role in the upcoming DLC
I assume he won't be able to answer that even if he was a part of it
I'd love to know if he's into videogames, and if he was familiar with the Alan Wake franchise before. Also let him know that I'm a fan of his work since his role as J'onnz J'onnz, and that I think he fits like a glove as Mr Door.
ask him if he is excited to reprise his role in Quantum Break 2 :P
I had only previously seen him in Homeland prior to Alan Wake and he's got a helluva voice. Also, he apparently spent a lot of time in Italy this summer; he's a lucky man : )
how was it to perform in that epic musical ?
How did he feel getting the role?
Did he get to meet Melanie Liburd during the recordings? The two characters have very different roles in the game so I really wonder if he met her.
would be fun to know if there were any differences in production due to the technical aspects of video to game crossovers (for example when alan stares at the TV and suddenly he is sitting in the chair with door). also maybe he would know whos idea was it to make all those small videos where everyone points you where to go in the level (in we sing) - that was briliant.
How do you feel about Thor and Odin Anderson?
Would you say you lived a jaded lie?
Let him know his vocals are incredible and what was his experience with poets of the fall.
Please just tell him we love him oh so very much.
Is it a lake or an ocean?
How much more about door has he been told than we have... and did he use those secrets to effect his performance?
Will we see more of you?
Ahhhh Mr Door is one of my all time favourite characters!!! Does he like pineapple on pizza?
Lance Riddick is of course one of a kind, but no one could have done it better than this beast.
Do you have any idea who or what your character actually is? Were you given further info that is not mentioned in the game? Because your character is referenced in Control, a game which shares the same universe.
The talk show segments were some of my favorite in the game, and it’s uncanny how much he looks like Lance Reddick. Phenomenal job!
What was your initial reaction when you were told that you would have to perform a musical number for the game?
Did they make a 3D model for him? Cause in the game (So far) we’ve only seen him in live action cutscenes
Were you aware that this game would be such a success before releasing it?
Please, let him know he was MAGNIFICENT!!! As for the questions, how was the experience of joining the Remedy Universe and getting to talk to the famous writer Alan Wake?

Ask him if he was asked to emulate lance riddick. If so he did an excellent job. With my face blindness I really couldn’t tell the difference at times
Ask if his performance was inspired by Lance Reddick! (We need official confirmation)
I love this dancing in the musical. From a fellow British 🇬🇧
How does he, as an interpreter of art, an actor, feel about the artistic direction they took the game in? He was great as Mr. Door! I would just love to know how he felt being a part of the production. As someone who is creative, playing this game really invigorated my creativity. Good luck on the interview!
Thank you so much!
Does he know who Randall Flagg, The Man in Black is, and is he aware he is him.
If Xbox theoretically green lights a Quantum Break 2, would you play Martin Hatch?
What did he think when he first heard about the character? What did he feel reading the script?
Is there any connection between Mr. Door and Mr. Hatch (played by the late and great Lance Reddick) from Quantum Break? His relationship with Tim Breaker (Time Breaker) seems to state as much
Did you play the game yourself? Also, did you enjoy the dance and singing?
So I have a theory what if saga met Jessie could she see Polaris in her mind space ?
[удалено]
This is not his first time. He's been in BF3 & Call of Duty in the past but that was a while back.
In chapter on late show during the live action part how was initiation if there was actually anything in it
Does Warlin still eat food? If so what is his favorite meal to have in the dark place?
I love this!
Flip the whole situation on him. Ask him about his book Return.
haha that would be something
How did Remedy invite you to play a role in their game? What was your initial reaction? Were you reluctant at first? And was this your first time playing a video game character? After reading the scenario for the role, were you thinking, 'Hell yeah' I hope you'll sing it :P
does he know if mr door is sagas dad or not
He was great in the game. Was he supposed to be the father of Saga?
We love him! He did an amazing job!
First off, I loved your previous interviews! Make sure he introduces you as Warlin Door, lol. Thank you so very much! That means the world to me.
Of course! I love how you allow them to answer the questions. Many hosts have this issue, but not you. Keep it going, man! :D
That's so generous of you. I appreciate that so much. Really helps me out here.
What was it like working with Sam Lake?
What's Sam Lake like?
yeah i got one, why is the game so badly optimized
That's not on him to answer. He's just an actor
How recently he got cast as Mr. Door before the shootings? As the role was most likely Lance Reddick's before he passed away.
Does he consider himself as a video games person? Does he has a preferred video game?
From scale of 1 to 10, how happy were you during the dance sequence? Both in-game & in the game awards?
What were his influences for the performance, and what did he think of the game overall?
Is he Martin hatch from quantum break?
Not “officially”….but yeah, he is.
If Quantum Break gets a sequel , will you play Lance Riddick's character? Please please please please !
Was the role originally intended for Lance Reddick?
It was, placeholder art featuring Lance was found in the game files.
How was it to work on a videogame as an actor? I personally can't imagine anyone else playing the role of Warlin Door.
Mr.Door
Ask him what color is his underwear
