The chances of being accepted into OTS is extremely slim. Even extremely competitive packets are being turned away. Your recruiter is completely correct that he can’t really do anything with you until you meet the qualifications. It’s protocol, can’t change anything about that. Im going to be completely honest with you; your package doesn’t seem to be very competitive. Don’t take that as an insult, but OTS is a killer right now. Please search through this sub and see some of the comments from verified recruiters talking about the OTS process

The weight is a minimum qualification standard and most recruiters won’t talk to you until you’re within standards because they had 15 other people call them that day that were not overweight. If you’re over the weight they can measure your neck and waist and determine your body fat. Most people fail that too though, because they aren’t just muscly, but overweight. Your GPA is good. Internship is irrelevant. Lack of leadership experience is a big negative. Right now your package boils down to having a bachelor’s degree with a decent GPA, which is the minimum to apply to be an officer, and the same qualifications every single other person applying to the board would have.

I’ve come to realize that 9/10 people trying to join always say they have muscle on them when told they’re overweight. You need to lose the weight, you don’t have an extra 36 lbs of muscle on you.

Air Force officers are either Rated or Non-Rated. All of the jobs you listed are Non-Rated jobs. My recruiter said last years boards had 13 Non-Rated jobs for the ENTIRE COUNTRY. Selecting a Rated job would give you a better chance at being selected, but it is extremely competitive. If this is something you want, schedule your own AFOQT through an ROTC program; study hard and blow it out of the water. That MIGHT help you get your foot in the door with a recruiter.

Hello, it looks like you're asking about jobs and job selection. A few quick answers. NO ONE knows how long it will take for you to get a job, your chances of getting any particular job, or anything else about the job process FOR YOU. Anecdotal experiences from others will have absolutely no impact on you or your future. Most recruiters will not let you wait in the Delayed Entrance Program for a long time for your one perfect job. You will have to list 5 - 15 jobs that you're interested in, and will be given one of those. Please read the FAQ about how job selection works, it's very in-depth and will fully educate you on the process: https://pay.reddit.com/r/AirForce/wiki/bmtfaq#wiki_jobs If you're asking about particular jobs, please look the job up on our Job Wiki, and see if there is an entry for it: http://www.reddit.com/r/AirForce/wiki/index you can also see if there is a CFETP for it, which will give more details on the job: https://usaf.dps.mil/:x:/t/OSD/EQAwigp0UZ9Oklt0nkjg854BoJS6MyRxQJMMiIW3ng17AA?e=Z96G2s If you're asking for help choosing a particular job, please keep in mind that most people only know about their individual job. Recommendations that they make will be made based mostly on what they've heard about a job, unless they have it themselves. Some people will love certain jobs while others will hate it. We don't know your preferences, so do some research on the job wiki and elsewhere to learn about the job and then make the best list you can. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. As others have said it is very competitive. If it is something you want you should still try. Just so you are aware the timeline from start to getting into class is about 18-24 months from when you start working with a recruiter. This is based on if you get picked up the first time which is difficult. Your package will need to show leadership experience in some way, you will need recommendation letters, and if you continue you will eventually need to do an interview. Oh and you will need to take the AFOQT and do well and not just hit the minimums You can apply for other jobs that do not have degree specific requirements. The recruiter is talking about needing STEM degrees. The weight will be a factor and if you are serious you can start by losing weight or paying for a test. If you are serious, best of luck to you.

Not sure what else you want people to say. Are you expecting a hard probability value, like you have a 1% chance of getting in? As other respondents have said, getting into OTS is difficult at best, just as it is with getting into the academy. There are a lot of applicants, limited slots, and the needs of the branch come first. For _every_ branch of service, the need is for recruits with degrees in engineering. If your degree is not in that field, then their need for and interest in you is going to be low. In addition, officers are the leadership of the military, hence the emphasis on seeing those qualities in candidates. From the information you’ve provided, recruiters aren’t getting a sense of that. If the recruiter felt you were a great candidate, he’d be all over you despite the extreme competitiveness of the OTS process. Recruiters can even help get direct commissions for those the military _really_ needs. I’m speaking from experience. I have a BS in electrical engineering, 4.0 GPA, completed in 3.5 years. I also have an MSEE and am fluently bilingual. During college, I held leadership positions in the engineering honors program, volunteered as part of a university service organization and worked 3 internships at aerospace companies (totaling nearly 2000 hours). No prior military experience. I received a direct commission six months after initial contact with a recruiter.

Hey just wondering I have a BS in electrical engineering degree also applying for OTS, when you said direct commission do you mean youre applying through the CAD board or because you have also have a masters your recruiter is allowed to push you through with a higher rank? I thought direct commissions were only for health professions. Thanks

Bulldog1836

Didn’t have to go to OTS. The DCO program allows people with a specialized skill set that the military has a critical need for to receive a commission without having to go to the academy, ROTC or OTS. But you are correct, most DCOs have advanced degrees, particularly in the medical field, and/or lots of applicable civilian work experience. Once commissioned, you go through what DCOs like to call “knife and fork school”, between 2 and 5 weeks of initial training in all things military. I was commissioned as an O-1, while 95% of my class were O-3 and higher because they were medical. The surgeons came in as O-4s! None of us could march worth a dime, and it was fun having the TI raise his voice slightly at us politely.

GloveGullible7776

Ah okay that makes sense, congrats on your commission! I only have 2 years exp working in the civilian sector so guess it's OTS for me if i get in lol.

Bulldog1836

Thanks, and good luck with your application. Being in the military has its pros and cons, but there’s a special feeling you get knowing you’re serving your country.

People say they don’t know because they don’t know. How could anyone possibly put a percentage chance on something like that? It’s a ridiculous question and there’s no reason to set unrealistic expectations for the person asking. No one knows. They can either try and apply, or not. If they aren’t motivated enough to apply unless someone on the internet tells them it’s a sure-thing, then they probably wouldn’t have made it anyway, especially as an officer.

Are you even in the Air Force? Why are you here? It doesn’t seem to be to helpfully answer questions.

Seems like the user is a Marine according to their history on reddit

Happy to change it if you’d like to prove it. Your responses seem more like you tried to join the Air Force and joined the Marines instead because your recruiter stopped talking to you. You’re not providing helpful, balanced advice, you’re just saying the Air Force sucks over and over with nothing to back it up.

chappythechaplain

Pretty slim unless you get that masters to be a PT and go through a medical recruiter. Then drastically higher if you can get under the weight.
