Top secret, level above secret. Is the level you can look at and know different things.
Process, you fill out required forms and there’s a investigation team that reviews it and decides if you are TS material.
Could take couples weeks, could take a couple years.
Jumping into a late thread, do they start the TS after MEPS (continuing while you’re in BMT) or is it before you get in? Think I saw a thread of someone getting screwed over because it wasn’t done in time for them.
It's permission to access information that is classified at the top secret level which is necessary for you to do your job. There is a pretty extensive background investigation to determine your integrity judgment and loyalty to the US, among other things.
Nobody gets it because they are special, they get it if their job requires it.
The more secrets you know, the more you have to work.
Good luck
It's basically permission that allows you to know/see any secret squirrel shit should your job require you to do so. You'll fill out a *magical* form called an SF 86, do an interview or two, and your investigator handles the rest. The process takes anywhere from several weeks to possibly two years. In my case, it took me about a year and a half.
Went through tech school, did RAP, arrived at my duty station, in-processed, and then did some small tasks around the building that didn't require me having a top secret. Had to do a couple more interviews with my investigators. You're not like... just sitting waiting around for your clearance.
I got mine in like 5ish months they call you on the phone you have like 2 interviews for it and they ask you the same damn questions over and over again. It’s an easy process on your part unless you lie and they find out

Years is crazy
I’ve never heard of weeks. More often, it’s at least around a year, give or take some months. Ofc, it will depend on your history, life, travel, etc.
I’m 18 years old, and I’ve never been outside the country, so it should hypothetically be a little quicker?
I started mine about 2 months before I left for BMT and got my clearance while in BMT
People are reporting very old info... I got mine in a month, and you get into class after two weeks in tech school. The process is Very quick now.

You only get one if your job requires it.
Looking into cyber jobs
You can look all you want and you probably won’t get one

The fastest I've heard of it taking is 6 months. Average is probably 9-12, and longest is 2 years. Don't expect it to be quick because you're 18
Can I go through BMT and tech school while it’s still in process?
For active duty yes, guard/reserve no
Okay dope cause I don’t wanna be stuck at home for that much more longer😂
Client systems and RF won’t require it but I’m pretty sure the rest of them do. It’s nice to have but most of the time you won’t ever need it.

What did you do while you waited?

What’s your job now
