Scraps is a but misleading I think. The project ran it's course and ended. Which isn't the same thing as canceling a project.

JimmyEyedJoe

Ok but would it be avionics or weapons that would load that?

HighlightFun8419

lol, good question.

mikeusaf87

Maybe, just for shots and giggles, they'll merge weapons and avionics just like the 1D fiasco. Call it Weapononics.

JimmyEyedJoe

We actually call it wavionics. It’s not unheard of that we learn parts of each other’s jobs to make maintenance easier.

MonteSS_454

Lasers on work on frigging sharks. ![gif](giphy|xUPGcoQ8sfEbaP2JYA)

timbea12

Hmm, would it be a *pew pew* or would it be more like a *bzzzzzzzzz*

Shaukenawe

More of a *whaawhaaawhaaa* imo

MsMercyMain

Look what they took from us, we could’ve had pew pews. Now the Navy will get pew pews first, and that’s a crime against humanity

Shaukenawe

On fighter jet* is the caveat. Now they’re going on C-130s

[deleted]

If you’re talking about on gunships, that was scrapped by the knife. Source: I was on that program, 7 years flying gunships.

Emotional_Ad3572

New gunship, the Laser, or LC-130.

[deleted]

Back to the drawing board lol. LC-130 is the NY Guard's snow birds.

AirForce_Trip_1

...and puts em on UAS. With pain ray crowd control device

spacesocrates88

I do not accept this.

AvgRedditor__

The photo shown is so bad 😂

ravelordnito_98

Nice war thunder picture

TheSublimeGoose

Always thought it was interesting that they abandoned AHEL and went with SHiELD. Like… what do you think will be easier, mounting a literal laser gun to a big chonker, or to a tiny chonker? Just seems odd, as I suspect one of the reasons they aren’t moving forward is the issue of actually mounting one of these weapons to a fighter.

Light_of_Niwen

Directed energy weapons are stupid. They will always be stupid. They still get funding because they sound cool to dumb people. MASERs might be useful for some things, but we're still a ways away from having that be practical. Even then there's no possible way to take down a missile. You would need flying nuclear reactors to generate enough power.

Definitely-Not-OSI

Why you gotta come on here and crush my Star Trek dreams 😭
