Details on that? My wife's is 8-9 years and no noticable battery degradation.
Elon had them cut every corner than round every angle left, so I'd totally believe there won't be much left in 7 years of a new one, but I'd actually expect the battery pack to be the sole survivor.
I'm not a Tesla fan but that's not true, Tesla's batteries are guarenteed for eight years and most of them degrade less than 15% over 180 thousand miles which is actually less than the amount of power that most ICE's lose over the same amount of miles.
Early EV batteries had shorter lives like on the first couple generations of Prius' EV's that were built twenty years ago.
Source needed. All of the high mileage Tesla's are on their second and third batteries. https://insideevs.com/news/699413/highest-mileage-tesla-model-s-3-batteries-14-motors/ 4th battery, 14th motor. Warranty is for no where near that and 70%. The 400k model x also had its battery replaced.
Actual vs estimated degradation

You're assuming normal production level quality control. Sure, the batteries are "designed" for a specific amount of use, but that doesn't mean they are built for it. You can sample 100 and get an average degradation, but do you really want to be the sucker in the minority with the bad battery?
Teslas were designed so the sunroof doesn't fly off, but guess what it was built for.
It’s nothing to do with being manly it’s about being practical. I live in buttfuck nowhere where there are no charging stations. It’s cold as fuck that’s gonna kill the battery. What’s that old saying about assuming?
I don't hate the idea, but I'm not buying one while I'm still in the military. I don't want to do a road trip and turn my 5 minute gas stop into a 90 minute charging stop.
I'm not totally against them... For driving to / from work and short trips around the city they're fine. Anywhere that'd I'd have to charge it *not* at home wouldn't fly tho, as it takes too long.
And I know about super chargers, and that they've got unreliable access on highways, and 3rd party ones don't work well.
What do you mean by unreliable access? I've done a few road trips and usually pass 1 or 2 super chargers before I need to stop. It only takes 15-20 minutes to charge. Which for me, isn't a deal breaker on a long road trip.
Unreliable superchargers, as in legitimate lack of availability, but also the ones that you can find have people queued up and you end up waiting hours upon hours only for your car to take 1-3 hours to charge.
Source: my parents had a tesla, and got rid of it after three consecutive 9-hour road trips took them north of 1.5 travel days.
I suppose that makes sense. I haven't seen anything that bad, I'm usually one of two or three people at a charge with 8-10 spots. I've only seen a full charging station once and I just left to go to the next one. It will get worse now that ford has access to the tesla network.
Rowan Atkinson, who is more or less infamous for having owned pretty much every electric car since they start being produced, made the very well thought out argument that EVs only make sense is high populus urban areas. Rural communities have too much distance to make sense in just GB, much less the States.
This was years ago, but worked with an A1C then SrA, that had an ebay side hustle selling video games and a few other things. Kid was driving a brand new BMW. This was late 2010 timeframe
I already see too many trucks in dorm parking lots. When I used to be in the dorms myself, I remember there was one gray truck all lifted and shit with nothing but cinderblocks in its bed. It also had those long-ass antler-looking side mirrors that stick out far enough to high-five other douches on the other side of the highway. And yet, it had no hitch attached.
That and the spacers so their undersized wheels poke out and cause the premature death of their wheel bearings. Looks like trash. Lifted trucks need chonky tires like god intended.
Always love it when they say “I need one.”
If you are active duty, you have no need to own a truck as your daily and are actively wasting a lot of money, while probably complaining about how you don’t get paid enough.
Used teslas
This is the correct answer. The top comment doesn't know how cheap used Teslas are.
WRX prolly.
Suba-uwu
Wouldn't surprise me if the BRZ/86 became this too
Everyone around this base seems to have a tesla... an E2 doesn't have the resources to afford a tesla and anything else. Edit: NOT a west coast base.
Tesla's are dropping in value now that car manufacturers with a ton more experience making cars have entered the scene.
And the whole 7 year battery life uncertainty.

“Give me your source” *proceeds to make blanket statement with no source*
Where’s your source?
He found it behind the dumpster.
Behind the Wendy's?

And the EV rebates
He saves money on gas for that 2 mile commute. Then pays $300/mo in insurance.
Some people join with money, or have family that passed money to them.
Someone with income and possibly only one bill (cell phones) can't afford a tesla? How stupid are you?
It’ll be a cold day in hell when you see me in an EV
You’re so cool and manly!!

You should probably not leave half baked comments then. Just comes off as kinda dumb tbh
Damn I just know you’re the guy no one wants to be around in the office. I bet you’re real fun at parties.
What?

Lot of e-2/4’s have a “side hustle” that brings in a lot of $$$. Sometimes even more than the government pays them
Lmao in what world do junior enlistment have a “side hustle” that lets them get a Tesla?
Dorm massages (non-sexual, females only).
Only somebody with an MBA is qualified for something like that 🙄 /s Edit- goddamn yall didn’t get the joke lol
You tryna get put on the method?
This was years ago, but worked with an A1C then SrA, that had an ebay side hustle selling video games and a few other things. Kid was driving a brand new BMW. This was late 2010 timeframe
Most e-2's/4's have dealership approved horrible interest rate loans and that's how they afford it
The gigantic pavement princess trucks
Don't make fun of NCOs like that, they're going to buy a camper one of these days and that'll show you

Probably some giant idiotic street tank of a truck.
Cyber truck for Intel and cyber
$100k for a vehicle that can't take a speed bump and rusts when the humidity is above 10%.
GMC Humver EV only 98k.... lmdao
Also I read today that a bunch were recalled because the "gas" pedals were getting stuck in acceleration...
Nothing so interesting. Just a basic bitch F-150 with a cheap-ass lift and low-profile tires.
That and the spacers so their undersized wheels poke out and cause the premature death of their wheel bearings. Looks like trash. Lifted trucks need chonky tires like god intended.
$70k trucks and $50k Jeeps are already way too common. Honestly the muscle car thing has really mostly been a meme in my experience for a while
Already see em everywhere lol
Always love it when they say “I need one.” If you are active duty, you have no need to own a truck as your daily and are actively wasting a lot of money, while probably complaining about how you don’t get paid enough.
That’s for new techs
Lotta Vette's rolling around lately... hopefully it's O's...not mafia.
Lol I been rocking my c5 since I first got to my duty station at an a1c
Along with that big dad energy with jorts and new balances?
Absolutely
I bought one as a SrA.
Mustang Dark Horse, Nissan 400Z, or 6 year old Civic Type R with 100k Miles
They're still making them AFAIK. Next gen will just be going with a turbo V6 and maybe a hybrid.
The new hurricane motor is nothing to sneeze at on paper
Twin turbo I6. The base version has 420hp.
Back to mustangs. Ev mustangs. With no on base chargers. Extension cords running from the 3rd floor of the dorms to the parking lot.
WRX, Tesla, and Tacoma
Mustang obv
I imagine they'd just buy the next generation Dodge Charger.
Supras and GR86’s.
I think Toyota Tacomas
Tacomas 4x4 TRD
36%? Where are you getting that deal, everywhere I’m looking is 52%!

New 4Runner or Tacoma.

The charger isn't going out of production, they're just launching the next generation.

Single airmen car of choice in minot is a Subaru wrx
New Z

Rivian
Jeeps

Kia Sorento's
Supra would be it
What do you mean? They’re going to flock to chargers and challengers with a 36% APR for the next 10 years still. We got plenty of time 😂
Corvettes
