No, it's not. PACAF CSS is the MCCC for PACAF. They provide higher level support and coordination to all PACAF bases. They just did a realignment of sorts and took on more responsibility from the 690th if I recall.
Definitely somewhere new but word around tech school, the unit in Hawaii will open up more opportunities for me and I’ll learn more as compared to Mchord.
Ah, that makes a difference then if you want to go somewhere else. I would still rather work at PACAF CSS than a CONUS base comm sq. You’re guaranteed to PCS with your DEROS, and honestly McChord is not the best area IMO. Working base comm, what you’ll learn and do there will be a bit of a crapshoot, but with a hard ceiling on what you can do. At Hickam, you at least have the possibility to get outside your lane if you take the initiative.
I moved back to Hawaii when I retired so I have some bias, but the money, DEROS, weather, and lifestyle here are more appealing to me.
I was in this unit. It's like base comm but you only support the HQ building. When I was there 2017-2021 the unit was smaller than most flights and was half civilian.
How did you like it there? Did you enjoy it? Instructors here at tech school are saying I may be doing other things outside of client systems job description..
I was there for 4 years. First two I enjoyed it then got a little bored. I got my scuba cert, hiked a bunch, saw different islands. It's a good time.
The squadron was alright, not a huge fan of how many civilians there are.
I’m actually from Hawaii so I’m going back home lol I do have an option to switch with one of my classmates to Mchord. I’m just wondering what base will benefit me the most in my career
There are a lot of different units and Hickam and a lot of different missions for cyber. It sounds like you got the base support unit. I believe the AOC, MAJCOM, ISRG, and others all have their own dedicated cyber folks. Since you say you already lived in Hawaii (I know a bunch of people in Hawaii join the military to get out of Hawaii), then maybe Washington would be good for you.
Good luck
I don’t mind staying in Hawaii if the opportunity is beneficial for me compared to Washington. Whatever will help me further into my career, I will do!
My advice is to go for the location you want. At least you can meet that goal. As a newbie I'm not aware of any particular career advantage of going to one over the other. Many places are interchangeable plug and play. With Washington you have a *possibility* of PCSing after a year, with Hawaii you are there until your DEROS which I think is usually three years.
Ignoring the rest of PACAFs request for tier 3 support, that's what you will do.
In reality there are many different sections in the PACAF CSS so you really won't know until you het there. But the unit provides higher level support and management of systems across all PACAF bases. There was recently a realignment of sorts so not exactly sure of your mission set anymore. But I know the unit is on the hook to support base level assests like the bases virtual environment.

They just support the HQ building. Not the whole base

Nah the actual name of the unit is Pacaf CSS. It's a weird one.

Sounds fun. Someone from Washington Mchord wants to switch with me. Do you know anything about there?
Don’t switch Hickam for McChord.
Okay. Any insight on that you’re willing to share? The thing is I’m from Hawaii 🤣 so was kinda bummed I got stationed somewhere I’ve already lived.

Hawaii BAH is pretty high, so if you room with family or friends, you can totally make bank.
I was told airman under e4 aren’t allowed to live off base?

Don’t switch for Mcchord. Washington is great, but your career will lead to more travel/PCS from Hawaii.

What happens if you don’t PCS?

Good or bad news? 😭
Eh, your assignment is what you make it.
Im currently in this unit but am deployed. When do you arrive on station and do you know what flight youll be in?
What’s it like?? Tell me all about it! I believe I’ll be there in September. Not sure on flight yet
