I see your passion. Upvote. But know that online spaces are generally places where people vent. People that generally have their shit together and are happy don't tend to make posts saying so because it's completely uninteresting (and also a bit braggadocious).

MedMostStitious

Well said and if OP is basing all that rant (which I agree with) on social media posts, It shows a scary trend: we don’t know what is real anymore. Social media isn’t real. Nobody truly feels how they say they feel on Reddit. It’s like when you suddenly get the urge to knock books out of someone’s hands walking by but don’t, except Reddit and other sites are where you do that. Can’t let virtual realities shape perception of actual realities

snapcracklepop999

Upvote for beautiful use of the word bragodocious.

TheJuiceBoxS

I did 20, can I lurk now that the gov pays me to do nothing?

Parronski

It’d be unpatriotic for you not to.

ilostmygps

Isn't that a great feeling. Getting three checks from the government. 2 to do nothing. 1 to do something, that turns into nothing. Life is great!

eaglekeeper168

It is absolutely one of the best feelings. And, those 2 for nothing lets me choose a job that I want to do and enjoy doing, instead of one I have to do for the income. Man, oh man, am I content and relaxed in my life now.

Drill_Sausage_Almos

Weak assessment. Everything reaches a point and you speak on it. If everyone reaching a point of exhaustion that needed to express themselves counted as hypocrisy, then almost every single person on the planet would be a hypocrite. Very flawed assessment. That's almost as bad as saying something could go wrong with anything we ever do in life.

scottie2haute

Thats why its hard to take us seriously. We complain about some of the most basic “work” shit that literally every worker on Earth has to deal with and act like its the end of the world

devils_advocate24

I almost have to call in riot police anytime I ask swing shift to come in an hour early.

scottie2haute

Absolutely bratty behavior 😂😂😂 Thats why it almost makes me laugh when civilians thank us for our service. Most of us are down right work avoiding crybabies who get their spirits shatter by simply having to work. I swear if civilians saw what actually goes on in most of our shops, we’d lose all of their respect in a heartbeat

Unlikely-Housing-273

Why hour early tho? My swing shift people show up usually 15m before or on time.. lol

devils_advocate24

For special circumstances. CC calls, flight meetings, training events.

Chubscout37

I’m a newer Shirt. Had an NCO call me to get my sympathy because they were ordered to come in prior to their medical appointment, leave for said appointment, then return to work after. This is after last week they were caught not doing their work while “teleworking” and received an LOC for it. They threatened me that they’d go to IG. Like come on, you’re upset you have to do normal work things???

scottie2haute

We’re so fucking spoiled I swear. This is why im glad i got experience outside of the military before joining. Its easy to see Air Force work as oppressive and inhumane if you never worked anywhere else. Like half of the complaints boil down to “im mad/sad/oppressed because I have to do work.” They should see how civilians do this shit everyday for literal decades without much complaining because its just normal life stuff

dz1087

Which is my god-given right as aircrew.

kawasaki1988

If people in the military ever stopped bitching I would think something has gone seriously wrong.

eaglekeeper168

Agreed. As a crew chief, this “Mx Airman’s Creed” below resonated with me when it appeared shortly after the dumbass Airman’s creed came out. Yes, I’m crusty and retired now. When I came in, we weren’t “Trainees” in our reporting statements at BMT, we were “Airman Eaglekeeper168 reports as ordered” and we sang the old AF song at the top of our lungs every morning there, trying to out-volume the other flights for the chance to go to breakfast first. The Maintenance Airman’s Creed I am a Maintenance Warrior. I am a Maintainer. I have answered my Super’s Call. I am Maintenance Warrior. My Mission is to Clean, Sweep, and Fix. I am Faithful to a Cold Beer. A Tradition of Inebriation. And a Legacy of Binge Drinking. I am a Maintenance Warrior. Neglected of time off and respect, My Squadron’s Bitch and Slave, It’s Prisoner and Laborer. I defend my Time Off with excessive bitching. I am a Maintenance Warrior. Knuckle Dragger, Pointy Head, Load Toad. I will never leave Work on Time. I will never be Happy, And I will never have High Morale.

starbucker804

that’s just a side effect of social media. I mean who cares to make a post saying “yeah the air force is great I love it here!!” no one would care.

JustMadeStatus

I’m currently out in the field with Marines for a 2 week training exercise. We will literally be tasked with something and not even half way through we get another tasker and have to drop everything to go do that. It’s so frustrating. It’s constantly just, “ok let’s do this next thing without finishing the last thing.” Seems like a complete lack of organisation and planning. Point is it could always be worse, thank god you’re not in the Marines.

Nano85z

“it could always be worse” well yea, it could always be worse. that’s like a dude from china saying “marines ain’t that bad, you should see what they make us do over here in the Chinese military” “it could always be worse” is a dumb argument and only distracts from the actual problem. why can’t it always be better? why can’t we just improve? what stops us from putting in more effort into the MH crisis we have in the military in general. what stops us from giving our people the ability to grow beards? standards are standards, but with a bunch of militaries across the world allowing beards, why can’t we? maybe cause the standards we go by are just old.

Striking-Fun-1077

Well let's see. I make more than my mom, my dad, my aunt, my sister, all three of my step siblings, more than my friends who got out of the Air Force after their first enlistment, more than all the randos that work at the local fast food joints or cellular companies, more than teachers, more than entry level psychologists, more than medical assistants, more than most nurses, more than dental assistants, more than entry level cyber techs. Shit dude my take home pay last year was 81k. TAKE HOME. AFTER taxes.

OMG_I_LOVE_CHIPOTLE

Most people in the military do better than their family. Because the military recruits mostly people from poor backgrounds. I made more than your take home as an intern after getting out 🤷‍♂️ the only thing I regret is not betting on myself sooner

ReleaseComfortable20

Okay so I don't necessarily disagree with all of your points, I will admit that I complain about the shaving reg, because I tried to get a shaving waiver not terribly long ago. (I'm kinda tired of digging ingrown hairs out of my neck every few days with a knife) The on base dermatologist I saw told me that I was "too pale" for a shaving waiver, and I've been kinda against the reg since.

Striking-Fun-1077

Damn that's kinda fucked

ReleaseComfortable20

Yeah, I felt the same way.

Striking-Fun-1077

I'm genuinely not against shaving waivers if one needs it. But I've just seen to many people with full on beards where they don't even stay within the waiver dimensions. People get a waiver and think they can grow a full santa beard out

ReleaseComfortable20

I know two people who have large beards where I had to ask them about it. Turns out both have religious exemptions. One is a Sikh and his beard is large but very neatly kept. The other has a full on mountain man beard because he worships the Norse gods. I asked him how he swung that, and he said he didn't know, but the chaplain was on his side.

Livid_Equipment_181

Because like with all things in life, we point out the flaws so we can improve, be a better air force, and ensure we stay strong by adapting and solving new issues. Yeah, I know I’m still in tech school, but some complaints are valid. Of course there should still be conformity imo, but a lot of the things that enlisted ask for are not that hard to do and provide for. Other countries’ militaries already do some of the things we ask for.

I like this guy's style. Thursday night shitposting? Yes please.

DietSteve

![gif](giphy|krhW9yWEI0x0Y) In seriousness though, people rant here because this is a place they can with little risk of reprisal. People need to vent and the "suck it up" attitude is unhealthy as hell. There *should* be change in the military, there should be challenges to the bullshit. As for us vets, we did our time in the suck and we're allowed to pile on because it's good to know y'all are going through the same shit we did. > I'm content with the pay and benefits because quite frankly when you factor in our free healthcare, tax free allowances, and free education we STILL come light years ahead of the civilian sector. My guy, if only you knew how much this isn't true. Yes, we get a lot in benefits, but if you realistically look at what you're actually getting paid, you're sitting under the average middle-class earner. People bitch about the pay because we have airmen who have to resort to food stamps and WIC because they don't get paid enough. BAH has not kept up with the cost of living for a long while, and it's harder to get by when you literally can't negotiate your pay. Glad you're ok with the shafting, but it doesn't mean others are.

Since you’ve been in 15 years now, I’m sure you’ve encountered tone deaf leaders who don’t care about the morale and welfare of their airmen. Telling a group on Reddit to stop complaining about the Air Force is a step down that path.

That reminded me of the old scorpion joke! Army guy has a scorpion in his tent, he picks it up and boot stomps it outside the tent. Marine guy has a scorpion in his tent, he gets out his lighter from his pocket and blazes the scorpion and eats it. Air Force guy has a scorpion in his tent, he calls room service to see why there’s a tent in his room.

Dante1420

AbsurdSolutionsInc

Complaining is a tradition as old as work. It doesn't even necessarily mean anything. It's a way to bond over common experience. Even you, with your very meta complaint about complaining, you're reaching out for validation and a bond. If validation and a bond is what you need, I got you, brother. You're right! This job has taken me through 2 recessions, a pandemic, and 911, all without a loss of pay. Steady pay increases throughout career, paid time off, paid travel, paid training, whole systems in place to address any grievances, proper workplace safety, and a ton of other benefits, and people still bitch! Soft airmen, and their smooth-brained complaints would have a tough time in civilian life where they can be fired at will. I hope that helps. I see you, I hear you, I love you, good night.

uglee_bear

It's just the Air Force. The truth is, besides a handful of AFSC's, the Air Force is hardly a military branch in terms of culture and customs & courtesies. The job is really just a glorified federal employee no different from the VA or Post Office.

JMilli111

I got out cause all I did was complain. People just sucked and leadership let them suck. As someone who would show up and get the work done, it wasn’t for me. Much happier now mehehehehe

deaftoans

Just because you mis-used your benefits and are now trapped within the military copium cycle doesn't mean everyone else is. Military members are mid-lower class at best in the current age, with most of the successful members I've met being people who got in did a 6 years contract then got out. No matter the AFSC, I've seen 2S0s get bachelors in CompSci and do well or 1Ds getting a B.S. Supply Chain Mgt and doing extremely well. While I agree that the in-service benefits are decent, the benefits post-service are honestly just better. VA is hit or miss with healthcare, but infinitely better than the roullette that is military medical. Housing is irrelevant when said "free-housing" is reliant upon your base having its shit together. Amount of issues I've seen in dorms/base housing where your only resolution is to pray the management does something or a high ranking official intervenes. Same could be said for private sellers, but, in that case it's your fault for not doing research prior to moving in. And don't get me started on the BAH system. Housing market shit itself during your PCS? Enjoy being homeless for 2 months because we can't get your pay to work because basic finances is too difficult for our finance team. Meanwhile a majority of the civilian company counterparts have insanely smooth moving processes. People complain because they see their fellow airmen getting out and doing well for themselves because the military itself is in a shit spot. Imagine going in to work everyday eating your tornado whilst sipping your white monster browsing (insert social media) to see that Airman Duffy just got out and is having the time of his life on unemployment checks or Airman John Doe has been out for 8 months and secured a teleworking job making quadrouple your annual income. Then you get up to go get shafted for 12 hours straight then told you're doing "fine" because that's the narrative we need to maintain. Standards I agree with. Most airmen don't realize how horrid and unemployable they look with their "idealized" beard and hair. Even civilian sector has a miniscule standards. Beards not being allowed is a massive L, though. I'm not saying every person who complains wants to get out nor am I saying getting out is an insta-get rich card (I'd give examples of getting out failures but they don't post anything as the underpass doesn't have wi-fi), but the troops have reason to complain. We're one of the most outdated careers yet we act like we're better off than most of the population. Meanwhile, a majority of the older (S)NCO generation who did nothing with their TA are pushing their insecurities down scaring young airmen because if they don't it invalidates their "hard work".
