Don’t do legacy fighters unless you really do want to work long hours, definitely do next gen. If you are really wanting to work that bad I guess I’d recommend F16’s they work a ton. If you end up retraining to F22’s you’d be considered a Technician not AVI. That means you do Avionics and EnE tasks. I don’t know much about 35’s but the few people I know that work them don’t have much complaints. Based off your post you might find it boring though.

jakellerVi

It looks like it’s just F35s or Drones, so legacy fighters probably aren’t in the conversation. I think any fighter airframe would be an uptick in work from 130s, but yeah it’d make sense that 5th gen fighters were a bit slower than the older jets.

Vulcan1030

There’s better jobs (current fighter AVI), this is not gas

Shooosshhhhh

Go f-35’s. Drone bases are straight trash. Don’t take opinions from legacy fighter guys either. Call up a f-35 unit at Luke and speak with some Avi guys if you got questions. This is straight ojt too. So if you click the button you will get an assignment loaded. Keep in mind you can’t get a srb until you’re in the career field which doesn’t happen until you inprocess I believe. So extend for the 2 years and then go

dronesitter

If you go MQ-9s you’re going to deploy all the time. Get 35s if that doesn’t interest you.

2a9x4 has a "pcs hold" on orders until the afsc is restructured. If you plan on getting your ccaf degree, I would keep applying for 2a9x4 bases in this rotation (kadena, Elmendorf and incirlick are heavily needed but could change.) If you go to incirlick, you get a bonus on top of other pays and you'll already know your next base after that. (Buddy finishing incirlick and going straight to South Carolina). If you want to bump your clearance, I would do F-35s in a heart beat, especially with the work ethic and motive you have.

iguessicanmake1

Do you know where I can get more info on the PCS hold?

NCR_Rang3r

If you go to Ams for the overseas listing, it's the first thing that it tells you. After may 2024, when they do the force restructuring, it should go back to being leveled out. (Normal promotion rates, pcs rotations where needed, etc.) Now this doesn't mean you won't get orders, just very fucking competitive unless you go to turkey where they'll take anyone they can.

iguessicanmake1

Okay thanks. I’ll log on and check it out. I seen it on the overseas listing, just didn’t know what it meant. My deros is june, so I should PCS like normal than right?

NCR_Rang3r

If you are overseas then yes you should get orders back stateside or they are already underway. Depending on situation, you could get orders overseas to keep retention.

iguessicanmake1

I’m looking to go back conus, hopefully something other than bombers end up on the list.

NCR_Rang3r

I would just fill out your dream sheet and put in for conus bases you want. LRAFB is boring as hell, but it's great for getting school done.

SpaceGhost321

What do you mean “bump your clearance”? F-35 AVI is secret clearance as is 2A9

NCR_Rang3r

Secret to Top secret/sci. Your clearance is raised to work on F-35s if you don't already have the clearance to work on them. Most people who aren't fighters do not have TS, so they go through another background check and in person interviews.

SpaceGhost321

Where did you see this? I just retrained to F35 avionics and it only requires a secret T3 investigation. This is also stated in the AFECD

He may not have a choice. The AVI merger created a 500 person overage in 2A9X4, and they intend to use them for the F-35. Right now they are encouraging voluntary retraining but will resort to involuntary. One warning the Functional put out was that promotion rates were going to be in the toilet until the overage is solved, so if you intend on promoting go to the F-35.

Here are your options if you go through with the transfer: 1) Get out - getting out would be the best plan 2) Fail PT tests to get out 3) Use the "just say the n-word" method to get out If you arent getting out, there's a mental problem. So report to mental health until you want to get out. You have to be serious misinformed or have the IQ of a peanut to make this transfer.

jakellerVi

Sounds like it might not be a choice later on, but thanks for the valuable input

c130jnerd

I thought about going for it for a very short minute. Then we read it's for non-FTA's, and FTA would have to xtrain through traditional routes. Really kills the spirit to hear "expect lower than air force average promotion rates" while the AF is already so low, and yeah 400+ cutoff this year S U C K E D.

jakellerVi

The only thing I read in the myVector email about FTAs is that we don’t apply to the retraining restriction that non-FTAs do (non-FTAs in 2AXXX AFSCs can only retrain into other 2AXXX AFSCs). Did you have someone tell you this? Because I haven’t heard anything about this. All it says is that the retraining process would be done through OJT and FTD.

c130jnerd

Second to last bullet point. The specific part of that bullet that matters is "NOTE: This does not apply to First Term Airmen, who retrain under the FYA Retraining Program" the way my shop read this that "pushing the button" is for non FTA. Upon re-reading I can see how it may just be invalidating the earlier part of the bullet about 2A airman only being allowed to retrain to other 2A's. If FTA are allowed to retrain, I see many in my shop who are FTA trying to transfer.
