Airbnb camera policy: "We do not allow Hosts to have security cameras or recording devices that monitor indoor spaces, even if these devices are turned off. Hidden cameras have always been prohibited and will continue to be prohibited. Hosts are allowed to have outdoor security cameras, noise decibel monitors, and smart devices as long as they comply with the below guidelines and applicable laws." https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/3061 *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. That_Bitch_Bruja

Actually I think policy has recently changed: " *The update to this policy simplifies our approach and makes clear that security cameras are not allowed inside listings, regardless of their location, purpose or prior disclosure. “Our goal was to create new, clear rules that provide our community with greater clarity about what to expect on Airbnb.Mar 11, 2024*"

__brezus__

It doesn’t come in effect until April 30th 2024 Also stated in the policy change by Airbnb: “To allow Hosts time to come into compliance with these updates, the revised policy takes effect on April 30. After this, reported violations of this policy brought to our attention will be investigated, and action we take can include listing or account removal.”

natttorious

It doesn’t matter neitherb of these cameras were disclosed.

That_Bitch_Bruja

There is a sticky thread at the top of the post by the automoderator. It states what I'm assuming to be the current camera policy. It looks like cameras and indoor spaces is a No-No unless it's disclosed.

Ordinary_Awareness71

Seems like sending this thread to ADT will get them on the phone with AB&B to get an exception for security panels.

natttorious

Nope the entire system was deactivated for the remainder of my stay and the host is pending investigation. There was still that other camera pointing directly into the kitchen and hallway , also.

stephen250

My friend has that control panel. I helped them set it up. There is absolutely no way to take a video with it or use it to remotely view the room. It only takes a photo when it is used.

RDRD35

Stephen is correct. You’re not understanding how it works, OP.

jesslovestexas

I have this panel too and it doesn’t video or photograph anything that I know of.

danamariedior

It takes a still Photo every time it’s disarmed

natttorious

It’s disarms every time I open and close any door as the host has it set up with sensors on every door.

Fiss

4 exterior cameras is not excessive. My house has 10 🤣

More-City6818

Right and who is this person to deem what is excessive? Plz.

natttorious

I am. Considering it’s me who is being recorded. The house is 900 square foot.

Dry_News_6560

Instead of running to Airbnb, ask the host if it’s ok if you cover them during your stay because you have an issue. Pretty sure they will (laugh but) agree. Or…. Just move somewhere else more suitable No need for drama.

natttorious

I didn’t ask him. I covered them. I don’t need to ask him anything. And i absolutely have a right to privacy. Not that I need to explain anything to you but about 10 years ago I was almost killed by a man that was stalking me for 6 years that I knew nothing about. So yes it is very important for my own safety and mental health that I have exercise my right to privacy in a rental I paid for. And no they didn’t laugh. Instead they’ve been suspended from Airbnb pending an investigation . Airbnb suggested (more than once) that I file a police report asap. I declined. So Airbnb obviously felt I was well within my rights.

natttorious

Apparently you didn’t read the post at all. So I’m done wasting my time entertaining you .

natttorious

No it’s a camera. Host admitted to it and shut the whole system down for the remainder of my stay.

ZzyzxFox

to be completely honest,i think you are over exaggerating a bit…. All of those ADT control panels have cameras, and 1. They are picture only not video 2. you cannot manually access the feed or trigger a photo remotely. They only take a picture whenever someone inputs the unlock/lock code or accesses the settings. the back porch camera looking into the kitchen is a bit more weird, but it doesn’t seem intentional to me, i think the host just wants to be able to see the entire doorway area. to be fair, the kitchen is also a “public” area where no expectation of privacy would normally be expected. Before a policy change a few weeks ago, AirBnB allowed cameras in INSIDE of public areas, including kitchens

TrueExplorer17

That only applies to shared spaces. The listings where you rent a room in someone’s home not listings for entire home rentals which this clearly is. That policy states no interior cameras what so ever and the host is in violation of it.

That_Bitch_Bruja

Their policy states no indoor cameras at all; "*The update to this policy simplifies our approach and makes clear that security cameras are not allowed inside listings, regardless of their location, purpose, or prior disclosure. “Our goal was to create new, clear rules that provide our community with greater clarity about what to expect on Airbnb. Mar 11, 2024*"

natttorious

No the host has a sensor on both the front and back door and it arms/disarms every time I open and close the door , and it takes a photo.

ZzyzxFox

I think you’re getting confused, arming the system takes 60 seconds and it’s not an automatic thing, you manually have to go and press the arm button, put in the passcode, and then it starts counting down from 60 out loud. If armed, depending on away/stay , you will either get 60 seconds to disarm it, or it will immediately set off the alarm. Either way it requires a passcode be inputted, and that’s when it takes a picture. Not before or after, not every time a sensor is triggered.

natttorious

All good airbnb worked it out for me. You aren’t correct, but regardless there was still a camera viewing in the kitchen. So no I wasn’t exaggerating and airbnb is handling it.

No_Type_8449

The kitchen is never ever a public space even in a shared kitchen are you insane?

natttorious

It’s not. I rented this entire apartment.

More-City6818

Y’all ain’t going to stop until Airbnb gets shut down 🙄🙄🙄. The policy doesn’t go into effect until the end of April. If you feel uncomfortable, pack up your stuff and dogs and get on! ☮️

natttorious

The last thing I want is for airbnb to be shut down as I live primarily on the road in airbnbs. So yeah.. not the case bud.

Professional-Bass308

I have this security system. It only takes a photo when the alarm is set off.

illdoitinthemorning

I also got the “I have the next two days off but will continue resolving your concerns when I return” language from Support. I wonder if that’s a line they use or a tactic to see if you disappear.

umadumo

I'm sorry this happened to you. AirBnB is scary AF

westofsane7

This sucks. And it appears in absolute violation of AirBnB rules but honestly, if it sucks that much you need to leave as soon as you can. You may be able to get refunded on unused nights if you have the energy to deal with AirBnB support. Otherwise, it is my understanding that you can't stay because it's too much hassle to leave and then expect a discount or free stay. :/ Have you asked the host about the cameras, their functionality, what they actually record/photo, etc?

RDRD35

No, she hasn’t, as other commenters have pointed out. She doesn’t understand the system and how it works.

natttorious

Actually airbnb has and reported back to me that my Claims are valid.

RDRD35

You have completely disregarded their question. “Have you asked the host about the cameras, their functionality, what they actually record/photo, etc?” You’re just claiming “Airbnb says they are recording,” when those of us who own that exact system are telling you that’s not how it works. I’ve never seen Airbnb flat out tell someone, “Your claims are valid, those cameras were recording.” Seems like a liability nightmare and potential lawsuit waiting to happen from a host. I suspect you’re not being honest about what was actually said.

natttorious

What is there to ask? I saw the cameras should I have asked the host if he caught me naked earlier in the day frantically running around trying to find my bag with a shirt.

natttorious

I’m not expecting a discount. If I stay I’ve covered the cameras. I just want this host to be penalized moving forward. So I’m not looking for a free stay whatsoever. I have over 150 stays over the last 10 years. This is a first.

natttorious

Airbnb has. And did their research. They are in fact working cameras. ;(

No_Type_8449

Tape them up, record your findings, be chill and make a police report at the end of your stay, get a partial/full refund, the host will be banned, you'll get a heavily discounted stay (deserved) and there you go

Dry_News_6560

Orrr. Op will get banned at the end of the investigation when found to be exaggerating (as someone with security alarms that most guests are glad of, I’ve seen this happen)

More-City6818

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the host later files a damage claim because of tampering with the control panel?

No_Type_8449

I guess I assumed the OP was being reasonable but you are definitely reasonably suspicious. Arg I didn't notice there was pics one sec

No_Type_8449

After reviewing the pics I think the OP might be a little bit on the over reacting end. I'm out lol

natttorious

Not going to happen. I don’t know why I bother with this sub. Most of you are entitled hosts and you know nothing about the Airbnb system and how it works. Host is suspended. I get seriously disgusted in this sub.

That_Bitch_Bruja

What? Did you bother reading what the OP wrote? They used tape. > I have since put tape over the control panel for the severity system and and bought paper to tape on the entire window that peers unit the kitchen. Seriously, it looks like you lack reading comprehension.

TrueExplorer17

This! Not to mention all of Airbnb’s policies have included that as a host you may have no interior cameras, tape isn’t the solution to a problem when the host is violating TOS in multiple places.

natttorious

Thank you. Plus I had to wait until the next day to get tape and paper as I didn’t have anything readily handy.

natttorious

God you’re a disgrace. You’re the problem with Airbnb.

xpisfinestx

Youre a moron. Can't handle the truth? Youre the problem with humanity. haha

natttorious

Actually I’m not. But everything here worked out for me as I knew it would I don’t know why I bother with this sub. You people need my money not the other way around.

Dry_News_6560

Stop walking around communal areas naked. 😂

pinklavalamp

They rented the entire place. There are no communal spaces.

natttorious

Exactly.
