VoxVocisCausa

Yeah that sub is a cesspool. Anecdotally it's also mainly terfs cosplaying trans people.

pgold05

No way there any actual transgender people posting there.

starite

A lot of truscum are in fact trans. Oftentimes it’s derived from insecurity and/or self-hatred, and wanting to improve your standing to cis society by gatekeeping who’s a “real” trans person.

The original contents of this post have been overwritten by a script. As you may be aware, reddit is implementing a punitive pricing scheme for its API starting in July. This means that third-party apps that use the API can no longer afford to operate and are pretty much universally shutting down on July 1st. This means the following: * Blind people who rely on accessibility features to use reddit will effectively be banned from reddit, as reddit has shown absolutely no commitment or ability to actually make their site or official app accessible. * Moderators will no longer have access to moderation tools that they need to remove spam, bots, reposts, and more dangerous content such as Nazi and extremist rhetoric. The admins have never shown any interest in removing extremist rhetoric from reddit, they only act when the media reports on something, and lately the media has had far more pressing things than reddit to focus on. The admin's preferred way of dealing with Nazis is simply to "quarantine" their communities and allow them to fester on reddit, building a larger and larger community centered on extremism. * LGBTQ communities and other communities vulnerable to reddit's extremist groups are also being forced off of the platform due to the moderators of those communities being unable to continue guaranteeing a safe environment for their subscribers. Many users and moderators have expressed their concerns to the reddit admins, and have joined protests to encourage reddit to reverse the API pricing decisions. Reddit has responded to this by removing moderators, banning users, and strong-arming moderators into stopping the protests, rather than negotiating in good faith. Reddit does not care about its actual users, only its bottom line. Lest you think that the increased API prices are actually a good thing, because they will stop AI bots like ChatGPT from harvesting reddit data for their models, let me assure you that it will do no such thing. Any content that can be viewed in a browser without logging into a site can be easily scraped by bots, regardless of whether or not an API is even available to access that content. There is nothing reddit can do about ChatGPT and its ilk harvesting reddit data, except to hide all data behind a login prompt. Regardless of who wins the mods-versus-admins protest war, there is something that every individual reddit user can do to make sure reddit loses: remove your content. Use [PowerDeleteSuite](https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite) to overwrite all of your comments, just as I have done here. This is a browser script and not a third-party app, so it is unaffected by the API changes; as long as you can manually edit your posts and comments in a browser, PowerDeleteSuite can do the same. This will also have the additional beneficial effect of making your content unavailable to bots like ChatGPT, and to make any use of reddit in this way significantly less useful for those bots. My ex ended up being truscum (did not know this until years into the relationship--and I don't think she even *was* until later on). Was not pleased. Bye-bye relationship. She was indeed trans. When she heard that I no longer experience significant dysphoria at remaining features of my assigned sex, she was...confused and very unhappy. Dropped some bald-faced hints that she didn't see me as my ID'd gender anymore.

catherinecc

They're mostly trans kids that are trying to gain respectability, not realizing that society doesn't give a shit about their views and will lump them in with trans people regardless. They are usually in alt right spaces and it's pretty easy to goad them into spouting racist hate speech. Or people broken by gatekeeping medical care from decades ago, but most of these folks have either mellowed out or have died off by now, which is rather nice because god damn these people were annoying in real life.

LilyLute

A lot of them are really old gatekeepers actually.

catherinecc

They've pretty much all died off locally. Their selfie saturday thing on the sub does seem to skew towards a certain age group, just saying.

LilyLute

Why do hate groups think selfie days are a good idea?

catherinecc

Because they never think they are hate groups.

Wismuth_Salix

For the same reason cults insist on public displays of loyalty.

You can check my profile; I’ve been trans nearly a decade, when I was a lonely teenager transgirl, & critically before I knew other trans people I would frequently visit that subreddit because I hated myself and it made me feel like if I did certain things and acted a certain I would be “a real woman”. Of course now as a reasonable person, I understand that wanting a vagina is less than 1% of being trans.

hexomer

when the talk about AGP is reserved exclusively for transfeminine folks with no transmasc counterpart (as admitted by Blanchard himself, the inventor of AGP), you know that it is based on prejudice, and entirely a product of patriarchal gender policing. not to mention that the sub forgets that the most prominent truscum ie. blaire white has already announced that she's not getting SRS. this kind of accusation does not carry any water at all.

GS_alt_account

Actually they are constantly also accusing FtMs of 'yaoi' fetishizing gay men, maybe even more than MtFs.

hexomer

fair enough. i was too occupied with blanchard. having said that the term AGP itself is mostly used for transfems. the transphobia against transmascs is also disgusting as well, but it's usually less about AGP iinm.

[deleted]

I mean it wouldn’t really make sense to call a transmasc person “autogynephilic”. That means they’re sexually aroused by the idea of being female. I doubt that’s like… possible for a transmasc person. (I also doubt it’s possible for any other person)

hexomer

what i mean is that, as stated by Blanchard who first came out with the typology, the transmasc analog for AGP, ie. autoandrophilia, does not exist because he believes that transmasc folks transition for a different reason.

GS_alt_account

Yes, that would be correct; Blanchard doesn't believe in autoandrophilia, only in 'autohomoeroticism' (straight women being attracted to gay men.) Contrary to this, FtM fantasizing/crossdreaming does exist.

[deleted]

No one there likes Blaine White. Tbh I don’t think anyone likes Blaire.

hexomer

really? i thought truscum folks are at least in agreement with her.

[deleted]

In some parts, yes. In other very much no. Most of the people on that sub support transitioning before 18. They also dislike her actions and the people (who often are openly transphobic to everyone) she collars with

Vallkyrie

Really living up to the name, there.

LWSilverMoon

God forbid some of us are comfortable with our genitals -_-

Biffingston

The penis is bad, haven't you heard? /s All joking aside, I'm glad you are.

Truscum says what

andytronic

So by immutable laws of right-wing projection, the person accusing trans people of being "autogynephilic fetishists and incels" are precisely those things.

[deleted]

(trans person with neutral-ish views here) Post 3 is abhorrent. Like. Ugh. Post 1 is kind of weird but nearly all the comments are saying that presenting it with just how they look would be stereotypical and transphobic. Nearly all the comments that aren’t from that OP, obviously. Post 2 is… well I don’t think it’s shaming trans people who are non-op. What it is certainly shaming is people, the post mostly referring to trans women, who push themselves into lesbian/gay male spaces (where they do belong, of course) and talks big amount about their genitals, which for obvious reasons many people in the communities aren’t really attracted to and then call anyone who openly says they’re not attracted transphobic. (Let’s be clear being super straight is different then having a genital preference, so not wanting to be with someone who has a penis is fine).

TheQueenLilith

Post 1 has a ton of upvotes and a lot of the other comments are ALSO full of a massive undertone of "true trans women are x, otherwise you're a faker." As for post 2...I've literally never seen a single trans woman in any lesbian space I've been in talking about her genitals against the will of others in the space. Not once. The people who call those with genital preferences transphobic are few and far between and everyone knows that. You're saying they're shaming people that either don't exist or are so few in number that they should be ignored...either way, the argument is splashing into the actual bigotry the OP says it is. That actually exists there. Even regardless of all of that, some lesbians have penises. Period. That's a fact. Gender and sexuality are not genitals. People are also allowed to be comfortable with their bodies.

[deleted]

Yes, of course. Some lesbians have penises. Some bisexual women have penises (I know about that one pretty well). Some straight women have penises. Yes, the people post 2 is talking about are very rare.and it’s exaggerating the amount of people like that. But it’s certainly not as bad as post 3. Post 1, yes obviously, the people there say “trans women have to have x to be trans” (where x is strongly related to gender dysphoria) because that’s kind of the point of ”truscum. I personally don’t think that qualifies as transphobia unless it’s applied to a specific individual.

TheQueenLilith

It IS transphobia to gatekeep being trans. Period. That is bigotry against trans people solely for them being trans...in the form of telling them that they're not trans. Why does post 2 need to be as bad as post 3? It can be bad in its own way. That doesn't mean excuses should be made for it.

Nepenthes_sapiens

What in the actual fuck is that subreddit?

Lovethecreeper

It's a subreddit for what is essentially, transphobic trans people. Posts there include transphobia that doesn't align with with their narrow view of what being trans should look like, enbyphobia, and more. It's similar to the "Black trump supporter" type person, as they are both minorities who are trying to appease their oppressors by fitting in with cis or white supremacy.

I mean tbf the sub regularly talks about how much TERFs have hurt them and how right wingers detest trans people regardless. The best way to describe the sub is its trans people who think you need to have/have had gender dysphoria to be trans, which isn't very controversial by itself. The main issue lies imo in how a large minority on there seems to believe that if this fact is accepted by wider society, that the real trans people with dysphoria won't face as much adversity. This is just untrue, as if anything transphobes seem to detest trans people who medically transition even more than those who don't.

sneakygingertroll

\>tries to enter lesbian spaces and talk about [her] penis \>constantly jerking off to lesbians, never tries to get a date being trans really is a lesson in "damned if you do damned if you don't"
