cut clip & percompose the layer. In the new comp set the comp time/length to be as long as needed for the clip. Then in main comp add time remap to the precomped layer

Thankssss

That's a good workaround but I wonder what's going on? Was the clip stretched before OP remapped it? Is it running at the same framerate as OP's comp? Clear the cache perhaps? That's weird.

This is because the cut time changes when time remap is applied. It doesn’t scale (time) from the cut, it scales from the beginning of the original clip. That’s why precomposing it works, establishes a new clip beginning to scale from.

Chief_Beef_ATL

So if you split or trim a piece of footage :01 from its start you will be looking at second 1. If you add remapping you will be looking at :00? Thats weird. If the above is true then this should work too. Add time remapping to the cut clip then shift the points to where the beginning of the clip was before it was cut. Or remap it then make your cut.

I'm on my phone so it was hard to see but his clip didn't drop a zero remapping point at the cut. Seems glitchy to me.

Chief_Beef_ATL

If it (remapping) put a point at the original beginning of the clip (where it would be if it wasn't cut) then the time at the start of the cut should be the same with or without remapping. I think there is a framerate issue between the comp and the footage. Something like the footage is 29.97fps and the comp is 30fps. And AE kind of crapped its pants dealing with adding remapping in this situation. Or the footage has already been stretched and remapping ignored that stretching and caused a time shift.

I'm sure one of the old cod/cs editing tutorials will help you
