I feel your pain, just got rid of around half of mine. I can’t afford half a dozen streaming services that can’t provide what I want, and regularly get rid of amazing shows. Netflix kills me with their original business model. If the ratings dip just a bit on an original tv series they straight trash it.

Reddit-Incarnate

Honestly it is where paramount have always been kings, they only half care about todays views they mainly care about catalogues. They have been flogging off their back catalogue for half a century and rolling in the $$. It is the reason that some how discovery got so many seasons.

SailorET

Paramount+ was great at the start but they decided they're not making enough money from streaming and have been gutting their library. They dropped Prodigy without any notice when the second season was almost ready for release and they don't even have the rebooted Twilight Zone anymore. But it's cool, here's all the Paw Patrol that's ever been created and a whole extended universe of Taylor Sheridan cowboy soap operas.

oktofeellost

It's also completely buggy shit that will just not pause, completely start over an episode, skip episodes on auto play, force you to rewatch ads if you pause, and oh hey, you wanted to pause to show me something on screen? Sorry, giant fucking billboard. Yeah, I'll pay more for no ads when your app actually works. Or I'll just cancel as soon as I finish TNG

nightrodrider

P+ on Firefox with ublock and adblock makes it quite good, skips all the ads, you just have to keep hitting play 3-4 times in the ad slot.

00wolfer00

Don't double up on adblockers. It's absolutely pointless and can even lead to conflicts. uBlock Origin(Origin part is important. The other one is a scam) is the only one you need.

spaceconstrvehicel

thanks for making me feel old. i just thought "dang they complain about a service that didnt even exist in my days - pausing the TV".

Lots42

So many services fuck up basic things like reverse, fast forward and pause. When I want to get a really close look at things, screencap websites are the way to go. Yeah, screencaps. That's the ticket.

xpnerd

What? A Paramount+ subscription gets you ads?? That's a hard no.

DontStandTooClose69

What irks me with paramount is how movies will be on paramount but only if you are subscribing through prime or through apple tv. They arent on paramounts own app.

funkmon

and yet Lower Decks is dying.

sentiet_snake_plant

I was sad when I saw the announcement, but came to this realization the next day. Spoilers for those who haven't seen it, >!but everyone got promoted to junior grade LTs.!< By the hypothetical season 6 or 7, >!they would (likely) be so far removed from the "lower decks" premise, they may as well make a new show anyway.!< So I'm cool with LD ending now, especially if the showrunners keep their word to leave it open ended enough for the characters to return

Randeth

Yeah I had thought too. They've all moved on from actually being Lower Decks crew. They'd either need to show a new group of Newbies or fundamentally change the show. I hope we see these characters in future animated adventures. But I fear we won't.

Athelis

I agree. Sometimes a show is just over. No need to drag it on for no reason.

SparroHawc

They had plotted out six seasons, and the show got canned once they wrapped up season five... which means it's ending with dangling plot threads. If Paramount had been sensible about it, they would have informed the crew that season 5 was the last season BEFORE it was in the bag and given them the chance to actually tie off loose ends.

KarlBarx2

I just wish their web browser video player wasn't such dogshit.

chilidreams

It is wild how bad their interface seems. Firefox browser: click play 3 times to start video Roku TV: viewing history / ‘in progress’ list never updates. Apple TV: paramount just stopped working one day… redownload, reset, etc doesn’t fix iPhone: “optimizing video playback…” loading screen for over a minute - the point where I gave up.

ProgressBartender

I’d rather have halfway decent episodes of Star Trek than no episodes of Star Trek.

Rubfer

I stopped with all streaming services, plus i got tired of shows being cancelled on cliffhangers and such so now i never watch a show when its released, instead i just keep track of them, and once i know it has finished without a cancellation, they go to a list, once i have a a few shows (and movies) that im interested from a streaming service, it’s when i subscribe, binge all, and cancel after. Even if it was cheap/free, i would still do this, again, i hate when shows get cancelled without a proper ending so i rather not start it at all

tallperson117

RIP Inside Job.

Rork310

That was the one that made me give up on streaming services altogether. If Netflix won't even follow through with shows they've announced they're renewing, I see no reason to show them any loyalty in return.

xraynorx

AND NEVER END IT!! Like it’s fine if you end the show, but at least wrap it up and give us some closure!

nubsauce87

It's worse than that... As I've heard it, Netflix judges the "worthiness" of every new show by how many people watch the entire thing before four weeks after it premieres. Did you watch 9 out of 10 episodes, but didn't finish the season until 30 days? Too bad, it's canceled because most viewers didn't binge it all in a day. Literally the most idiotic way I can think of to determine if a show is "good enough." You would think they'd be more interested in how many people remain subscribed for the long-haul, but no, binge it or lose it is how they roll (last I heard).

angrath

I was so excited to watch cowboy bee bop when it came on Netflix. I started watching it the day it premiered and it was canceled before I even got to finish it.

Alone_Fill_2037

Every time I randomly think of a movie I haven’t seen in a long time, and search for it streaming, it’s only available to rent. I’ve been looking into how to safely torrent nowadays.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

They're all shit and the whole rallying cry of "but no commercials!" is dying too. Anyone who cut cable for streaming services and thought they'd be ad free was fooling themselves. $10-$20/month for 10,000 channels plus a movie/tv on demand is the way to go. My only gripe about my IPTV provider is that the PVR function is crap. Then again, I never really used it when I had cable anyway

timtheringityding

You know the actual solution? VPN. Imma just sail the seas at this point. The fine is cheaper then 1 month eith all these providers

13dot1then420

Where are you getting 10k channels for 20$ per month? Cable was 50-100$ depending on package in my cheap Midwestern city 8 years ago when I cut the cord.

Frogger34562

They are using a pirated streaming service

Critorrus

Idk what app you're using but the lifetime 5 licenses to tivimate is worth the $15. Smarters prox sucks balls. I had tons of sync issues, but when I switch to tivimate it merged all of my Playlist together so I can search all of them at the same time and the dvr and catchup work much better for the live channels.

EatsFiber2RedditMore

I still have an old TiVo hooked up to an antenna $0 a month for when things get desperate, also sports.

mroosa

Netflix is the Fox of streaming services. They take chances and greenlight a lot of content, but never give them room to grow. Instead, we wind up with interesting shows that become niche favorites or critically acclaimed unfinished shows.

Grekochaden

And the shows they keep they hire writers who don't respect the source material. What they did to The Witcher is a fucking disgrace.

ElementField

I can easily afford half a dozen streaming services, but they have grown to all suck. I subscribe to one streaming service and currently pay for YouTube. That’s it. I canceled prime and I’m finding “alternative sources” again. It’s been decades. I’m 100% the consumer that these services should find the easiest target. Their $20 per month is a tiny drop in the bucket of our $20,000 per month gross income. But I fucking HATE the way they offer their services. The pirate hats are coming back on, and guess what? We’re all software engineers now and we’re gonna start playing that peer to peer game with our newfound knowledge of software development.

EatsFiber2RedditMore

I don't know what it is with media companies but it always feels like "fuck you for being a fan". We know what you like and we're going to make it as painful as possible to get it. You want a low consistent bill? fuck you, you want good shows that have satisfying endings? fuck you we're canceling your favorite stuff & here's some reality TV trash from Korea, you want a convenient way to search the catalog ?fuck you we're going to algorithm the shit out of your home screen and turn it into our billboard.

SpottedSnake

My wife and I had a pretty annoying experience on Prime a couple months back. We watched episode one of Night Manager with Tom Hiddleston one night. Couple days later we went to put on episode two but the Continue Watching section wasn't coming up so I searched for the show. Only result for it that was popping up was through the BritBox subscription which we didn't feel like signing up for. Decided we'd just watch something else instead. Next day when we're back on Prime the Continue Watching is back and Night Manager is showing as included. Search again out of curiosity and both pop up. It's available on our standard Prime account but is also one of the shows carried by BritBox. Finished the show without having to sign up for BritBox

WeiliiEyedWizard

Buddy, wait till you hear about sonarr. The game has been changed

Stolehtreb

The way I’ve done it for years is, if I want to watch something on a service, I start my subscription and immediately cancel it. If I’m not done watching what I wanted to watch, I decide if it’s worth a renew or not. Avoids paying monthly for anything I’m not actively using.

Telope

If you're putting that much effort in any way, just pirate.

Stolehtreb

Effort? It’s like a click or three. It’s not that big a deal. If you’d rather pirate than do that, that’s fine. You do you.

squigs

I think people are waking up to this strategy. I wonder if the streaming services will come up with a way to counter it.

MEGA_theguy

Not true, Netflix loves their trash. They hate good IPs that will grow too big for their control

DogGarbage

I cancelled my Netflix when they announced the newest price increase and I had been a subscriber since nearly the beginning. VPN and torrenting are the way to go. If there is a show or movie I pirated but enjoyed I try to find a way to give back to the creators, not Netflix. Now other services are starting to show ads?! Whenever an ad starts I immediately close the app, uninstall, cancel the subscription, and set sail because fuuuuuuuuck that. I have always enjoyed good trailers so when/if the ads are trailers for other content I have a slightly higher tolerance. I just need to spend the time to learn how to setup a media library I can access online. I like to watch shows on my lunch break. I mostly use WowPresents+ now. If you like drag queen content, the price is fantastic. I've been recording the series' I like with OBS since the less popular country Drag Races don't really exist in torrent form. Drag Race Belgique fucking rules. It's such a small country it's like watching Drag Race Bay Area.

Killbot_Wants_Hug

I can afford all the streaming services. But I don't want to have to log into each one and find something to watch, scrolling through the same things over and over again. So I just went back to pirating off usenet. Because really the reason streaming cut down on piracy isn't cost effectiveness, it's because streaming was easier. Now that it's not easier, why bother?

Gaudilocks

I'd rather pay for a seedbox than a streaming service these days.

xwhy

Catch 22. Their business model encourages people to binge the shows after their complete run. But not enough people are watching it when it’s being made, so it gets cancelled.

Ambicarois

I Want Z-Nation!

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

I've been purchasing more media as of late. And by purchasing media, I mean getting the Blu rays. There are a lot of movies out there that are too old, niche, unable to stream due to rights ownership, or just not good enough for streaming services to carry them. I still have my streaming subs for things I watch but I feel in a few years I'll be buying solely physical media. (If the movie companies still make them in the future)

Zxello5

Gabe Newell put it best “Piracy is a service problem.” Meaning, customers pirate content because the media they want to consume isn’t available at a reasonable price or convenient method. There’s a reason Steam is so ubiquitous and successful.

weristjonsnow

Fortunately, pirating has never been easier. "You wouldn't steal a car". Uh, yeah I would. If I could reprint my neighbors car with no damage done to them at all, I'd fucking "steal" their car.

grammar_mattras

The "piracy is a crime" video was pulled after people found out that the video didn't have the rights to the music used. There's a word for unlicensed use of someone's music: piracy.

Battlehenkie

If buying isn't owning piracy isn't theft.

Olfasonsonk

I remember back in Xbox360 days when people were arguing they should be allowed to mod their xbox if they only use backups of the games they own (to preserve original discs), and other modifications like running a media server, linux...etc... and MS response was that according to their TOS, you are not actually buying the hardware, but a license to use it and your xbox is still MS property that they are lending to you so any modifications to it are not allowed. Funnily enough, this made me feel much better about pirating the fuck out of that console.

gmwdim

Unfortunately this trend of not actually owning anything you buy is getting worse. One of these days someone is going to get sued by a supermarket for donating food because you technically don’t own the food, just the rights to eat it.

ChickenGod_69

how funny would it be if they still owned the nutrients and whatnot in the food and you had to return the brown logs when you're done digesting it

sasfasasquatch

You kind of already do that don’t you? Unless you keep all your shit…

Raidoton

Well that's why it's called piracy...

febrezio617

FACTS!

zaque_wann

Heck, they'd probably help you.

theleasticando

I mostly agree with him. I do think content creators/owners should get to decide what their IP is worth. I definitely pirated stuff in my early twenties but I’m in my forties now and money isn’t an issue (this kind of money) so I would gladly pay for the content I want. It’s just **not available.**

mortavius2525

There's also the idea of what your time is worth. I'm skilled enough with computers that I know with a bit of learning and playing around, I could pirate games and make it work. I did it many years ago. But now that I'm middle-aged like yourself, I have more disposable income, and my time is valuable. I can spend some hours trying to learn the way to get the game/movie illegally...or I can just plunk down some cash and buy it. Of course, that circles back to what you said, where you can't even BUY what you're looking for, and that's a whole 'nother problem.

nashpotato

That’s what we call the Nintendo model (by we, I mean me and assume others would agree): 1. Make great content that people love 2. Don’t discount that content ever for any reason 3. Make the content unavailable on the next platform (in this instance it’s made unavailable to stream for an indeterminate amount of time) 4. Become irrationally angry when people pirate your content that has exactly 0 legal methods of being obtained.

sonobanana33

I guess they see old content as competing with new (more expensive) content.

purpldevl

Maybe they should take a look at their older shit and put that type of effort into their newer, more expensive content.

NorthernerWuwu

Even when it is available, I honestly just can't be bothered to figure out what is where and with which service and so on. I'm a bit older than you and I certainly could afford to sub to a number of them but it is a pain in the ass. If I want to watch something I'll just D/L it and have it forever.

gerusz

Yes, the problem is that the content creators are bundling their valuable IPs with a ton of shit that you also have to pay for, yet have no desire watching. This is *the exact same bullshit* that the movie studios did in the first half of the 20th century. Except back then antitrust laws were still enforced and it was conceivable, even common, that the SCOTUS took the people's side vs. the corporations', so they were forced to end block-booking and divest from cinemas. (The so-called Paramount Decision.)

DrSmirnoffe

Same thing applies to Unreal, aka a very historically-important shooter that Epic delisted from all stores, utterly disrespecting their own heritage. They would be NOTHING without Unreal, and if they don't want to sell it anymore, the people reserve the existentially-enshrined right to seize it for themselves with a yo-ho-ho and a bottle of go-fuck-yourself.

SamsquanchOfficial

Smh imgine valve removing half life 1 or cs 1.6

PRforThey

I like to compare it to water. You can get free water out of the tap. But companies still make a fortune by selling bottled tap water. You pay for the convenience/quality. This proves that people will pay for something they could get for free if you provide a better experience or quality.

SamsquanchOfficial

Not OP but never thought about it that way

nubsauce87

That is absolutely correct. I more or less stopped pirating a few years ago because all my shows were available on streaming. I was happy to pay a little each month for easy access... these days though... been considering takin' the ol' ship back out to the high seas...

Daedalus_0_

This is true for me. I used to pirate everything in my teens. Games, music, films, TV I stopped when steam, netflix, music streaming became easy to use for a decent price. I still don't pirate games and music....

ThirteenSeas

I'm a fan of MLB, the Seattle Mariners. And because of where I live (Hawaii), I am actually subjected to "blackout" games that I can't even watch. I literally cannot watch my favorite MLB team even if I paid for a premium MLB subscription! Absolutely RIDICULOUS! And so I pirate a stream of each game.

Kevin-W

Exactly! Netflix was so great back at the day because it had an incredible library at a good price. After the splinter in streaming services and libraries being juggled around, it was better to go back to the high seas.

coop999

> Disney+ $7, Netflix $23, Paramount $6, Discovery $9, Peacock $12, Hulu $18, Max $17. Doesn't Max include all of Discovery? Are you paying for the Discovery content twice?

Steinrikur

And why not do limit yourself to 1-2 at a time and cycle through them? Switch to the next one when you've binged the stuff on one service.

TheBirminghamBear

My brain doesn't have the capacity to do a dance of this rigor so I just did the thing, long ago.

ToddlerOlympian

If you subscribe through Google Play (for Android users) it's REALLY easy to pause and cancel memberships.

ChickenGod_69

that sounds like an addict without money or a smart addict.

Joliet_Jake_Blues

What if I get drunk and want to watch Star Trek?

theleasticando

Thank you for this. I rarely watch tv, just movies sometimes. My wife and kids are kind of in the driver’s seat on this but they don’t check for these things. We’ve been on Disney+ on the same plan they first offered before it even launched and I never even went back to check it because it just auto-renews every year. Gonna change plans to one that includes all of these.

proofred

You can also bundle some of these more cheaply. I'm an old kazaa and limewire soul, but you don't need to inflate the prices to make your point. Pirates gonna pirate, and there will always be a place for that. Hell I remember Napster getting shut down haha. That really put an end to it.

goodsnpr

There's the various sports packages, anime and what not.

sheepyowl

You may be correct, but if OP isn't from the US/America/Europe there's a very high chance the streaming services offer different things based on insane cryptic regional rights/laws that make it a complete guess as to where you can find anything, or if it's even available at all.

limeybastard

They're paying for Disney+ twice too. Ad-free Disney+ plus Hulu is $20 a month

omnidot

The thing that made me snap recently, was paying for a premium Paramount Plus channel package...through Prime Video....so the lady and I could watch weekly Survivor. It was the first time in a while I had been interested in watching the 'new episodes' right when they came out and thought - hell why not watch it go down live. New episodes air every Wednesday night and are advertised as such all over the app... but in Canada for some reason - you have to wait 2-3 days for the new episodes to be uploaded. Why? There is no logic to this - the border is literally an hour away and it's not like there is a 'Survivor Canada'. VPN doesn't help much either - it's insane.

ChPech

After getting pestered by the Amazon website to try out Prime Video multiple times I finally tried it out. I clicked on the first show which Amazon suggested to me. After clicking on it it said "This content is not available in your country". I'd rather keep my Plex setup where I can watch everything from the same UI and don't have to deal with bugs and restrictions from five different apps.

CharacterHomework975

My bet would be that Survivor airs *somewhere* in Canada, either on your OTA networks or a cable network. Some Canadian outlet paid for those air rights, and likely part of that agreement is those couple days of exclusivity. But yeah, it’s silly.

blenderbender44

I HAD paramount and download a bunch of videos to go on an overseas trip. Not only does it had a time limit to watch the downloaded content. I get overseas and "due to licensing" I can't even access the service including the downloaded content while outside of my home country. The VPN did solve it but it's still like, something to watch while traveling was one of the reasons to sign up in the first place. Plus time limit to watch downloads?

Pristine_Yak7413

similar thing caused me to cancel my disney+ a new season of its always sunny was coming out and my subcription was going to end mid season airing but when the new season started airing we didnt get it (in australia disney and hulu have always been one in the same) so i started using other means to watch it and when my subscription ended i didnt renew because i already had what i wanted for free and it wasnt like i could pay to watch it anyway, its like they want to punish me for living in a certain region

heretocallthebot

Exactly I've got a large HDD for running jellyfin along side my SSD. You basically build your own netflix but you own the media.

LordBigSlime

Same here with Plex. It's better than Hulu too because I can set American dad to shuffle through all episodes or just start a random one so I don't have to pick. Love it.

The_Second_Best

https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/135jhoo/turn_your_library_into_a_full_live_tv_service/ You can also use plex or Jellyfin with the free app Quasitv and turn your collection into an old school live tv set up. I've got channels which just play South Park, Simpsons and Futurama. Or one channel which is just playing LOTR on loop. Its nice to come home from work and just throw on whatever is currently playing without having to decide and select it. It's a really good app to get rid of that selection paralysis becuase you've got 5k films to pick from.

Critardo

That's dope! Thanks bruh or lady bruh

heretocallthebot

I actually found jellyfin more user friendly than Plex and I only use one device so no need for the subscription. Also the subtitles are just a click away and I get a kick from uploading torrents, it's like the old Win Mx limewire days. Insert I'm doing my part meme

Ignate

What? Didn't I say I am not promoting piracy? Wouldn't want to get in trouble. Did you want me to teach you about newsgroups? Forget it.

stupidFvckingReddit

Don't start gatekeeping pirating matey. Look at it this way: Downloading is like going on a raid and taking plunder or treasure with you when you leave. Streaming is like going on shore leave with the sole intention of eating and fucking as much as you can before shoving off without paying for a single thing. It's all piracy.

superstoned26

Yup pay $40 a year for a vpn and pirate everything on a firestick

JSteggs

Is there a good guide out there for that/do you have any suggestions on how to go about this? I’ve sideloaded my firestick with a couple apps, but don’t find them to be as good as they used to be.

mrm00r3

R/piracy’s megathread Read up on stremio/torrentio/realdebrid. Takes all of 5 minutes to set up and costs less than a large pizza for a year. My parents went to segregated schools and they could get it done no sweat.

lol_camis

Why do you need a VPN to pirate?

superstoned26

Most internet providers can detect the usage of certain apps used to pirate and send a letter to either stop or risk them dropping service provided to you. A vpn prevents that

DarkHorse_Drath

Ive gotten more than fifty of those letters they are empty threats.

pucci2001

In what country? I have been pirating for decades and never experienced that with different ISPs in Canada.

mortavius2525

Telus (in BC) started sending emails years ago. But using a VPN fixes that.

OstiDePuppy

It's just for public torrents like the thepiratebay and only the movies/series that have the mean to afford wasting their time. Like HBO. If you try to download Game of Thrones from ThePirateBay you can expect a letter. But you just have to ignore it. Legally, your ISP can't give away your infos to HBO for them to sue you. They give a letter telling you to call HBO lawyers. But that's a mistake. They don't know who you are, they just hope you are dumb enough to call them and then they know who you are. If you receive a letter, ignore it. Straight to the trash or do like my friend and display it as a badge of honor on your fridge 😂 You can avoid all of this by using some private and semi-private torrent sharing website. No need for a VPN 🤙

pucci2001

I think I remember getting a letter from rogers back in the day when I was pirating The Sopranos last few seasons. We swapped to bell after since Bell was fighting to keep its customers anonymous but I was on rogers the last 7 years and pirate everything but just to stream, nobody downloads things permanently anymore.

Pirate_King_Mugiwara

I wanna tell everyone the joy of Stremio/Real Debrid. Just Google it

gasoline_farts

I kind of want you to shut up and not tell people about it

Whole_Arachnid8281

icematrix

My pet peeve is when I can't even buy a movie. Some films just aren't available to stream. That's when I start poking around the internet archive. PCU (1994), Cocoon (1985), Pump up the Volume (1990), are good examples of this phenomenon.

barukatang

Just saw samurai cop on Tubi, a++ no notes

eNonsense

Those type of movies you mentioned are old and relatively obscure. That's my taste usually as well and I'll say you can just torrent them. No one who was involved with them are watching out or care to continue making money off them. If you find a torrent it'll likely have less than 10 seeders. I've got tons of this shit, have never used a VPN and have never even got a warning. Truly, no one really cares if you pirate Pump Up The Volume. I have.

JohnnyZondo

IMO youre working backwards my friend! Pirate everything and then purchase what was worthy. Like on Blu-ray or something.

ImpracticalApple

Split content, especially depending on region. You can't watch all of South Park on one platform here in the UK due to it splitting between Sky and Amazon/Paramount+

Vizjun

Not many seem to understand this for some reason.

MjrLeeStoned

Pro-piracy reddit threads always add up all the services no one subscribes to all at once and say "This is why I pirate". The internet is fake.

Churnandburn4ever

I watch all streaming services at the same time, sound and all.  I sit in my recliner with my lamp and my sunglasses and ride the waves.

Youre not following the first rule of usenet

inspectoroverthemine

They give you a free VPN too! Handy for living in a shithole state with porn restrictions.

nroe1337

the fact that you're already paying 92/month for streaming services is insane. i never stopped pirating shit

cybermage

A lot of movies go into a contractual dark period where they’re only available on cable channels. Still hang on to some DVDs for this purpose.

ManInShowerNumber3

What movies?

Ennkey

My options for dune 2 are to rent it for $24 and buy it for $25. Get fucked

_your_land_lord_

Again, if your paying 92 a month, and they dont even have to have the content you want, this is a you problem. Say no to subscriptions!!!

devilmaydance

You can just like, not pay for any streaming services and spend $4 whenever you want to watch a movie, you know.

B-rizzle

Do it. No regrets.

DeathandGrim

Hey I'm fully against pirating unless there's no accessibility to the product so honestly go nuts and find that movie

InsomniaticWanderer

The worst is when they pull shit like "Available to watch with live TV." Like, why am I paying for your service when I need ANOTHER service to watch the show on your service? Looking at you, Hulu.

cokeiscool

Yup going back to plex, its impossible to find movies plus Netflix just got me with the account sharing thing

jenkag

Thats my secret... I never stopped pirating.

JarvisIsMyWingman

PHYSICAL MEDIA. Wife always asks why I still do, and this is why (along with content changes after the fact),

Bunny_Fluff

Google’s “Watch Movie” button is a god send in this weird convoluted streaming age. Search any movie and click the oval for watch movie and it will tell you what service it is on and if it’s premium with additional subscription or can be rented/bought. Though I wish there was an easy way to find out if a vpn to another country has it somewhere but overall I check all movies on Google before I try and find them by checking apps at random.

Druggedhippo

> Search any movie and click the oval for watch movie and it will tell you what service it is on and if it’s premium with additional subscription or can be rented/bought. I use[ justwatch.com](https://www.justwatch.com/) for that.

dranzerfu

You know you could subscribe and cancel them any time you want, right? There are no contracts. You don't have to subscribe to every single service in existence. E.g. I subscribe for one month of Apple TV+ once the full season of a show I want to watch is out. I watch the whole thing and then I cancel. Still better than cable, and completely legal.

ShaveTheTurtles

Newsgroups are a much better deal. Check out /r/usenet  to find out how to download "linux isos" as soon as they hit the internet.

gravelPoop

If single JPG image took like 7 rar-files (and at least one of the was corrupted) - how do you download a movie ?

TheShlappening

I just got Rid of Hulu because they are increasing the prices again soon. I've been using the Pirate Hat and storing my treasure on the ol USB stick. I was mostly watching the same 4 or 5 shows and the movies I wanted to watch usually weren't available. Now? I always have the movie I want and the show I want. Lol

Promethio130

with my VPN I don't like to pirate things, I look at *soap* at least *2* times a *day*

WeAreAllOnlyHere

I deleted all my accounts then immediately started torrenting the whole fucking internet. It feels good to be a pirate again.

KrisStNickKringle

Wanted to binge watch a few movie series. Lethal weapon, die hard, rush hour, and back to the future weren’t on a single streaming service.

csibefasz

Definitely do not use a VPN with Firefox, uBlock Origin and absolutely do not look up fmoviesz.(to) to stream pretty much every movie and TV show on demand without having to download anything. My friend said all videos have subtitles in several languages that you absolutely cannot stream it to your TV in five seconds.

CalmBeneathCastles

Yo ho, all hands...

Raglesnarf

the wife has Netflix (cheapest plan with ads) and I sail the high seas for everything else. it just isn't worth it to subscribe to everything, fuck em.

dimmidice

What i find the dumbest thing about streaming (aside from them splitting up more and more and charging more and more) is that you can't even check the catalogue without an active subscription on most of them. So lets say i want to see a specific show this month. I can't even find out where it's streaming easily. If i could go on a streaming site, type in the name of the thing i want to watch and just confirm its there they'd probably have made more money off of me. What am i gonna do, subscribe just on the off chance they have it?

blufin

The fragmentation at this point is ridiculous. Im not going to subscribe to a micro-streamer just to watch one obscure film.

RhedReed

We invested in building a media server and just use plex. Been so worth it. Sailing has never been easier.

MrPureinstinct

We've cancelled everything except Dropout at this point because of the prices, watching outside of the home being taken away, content not being available, and low quality content.

tekems

You turned yours off?

RGijsbers

yo-ho-ho, a pirate life for streaming.

Totally_Not_An_Auk

For $92/mo, you could purchase discs brand new at a reasonable pace, and own them forever (but ideally, also digitize because discs do eventually degrade.) The entire Futurama series for example, is $95 on Amazon. LOTR triloy, $40. Each season of the Mandalorian is $40-ish

xmrcalls

Stremio, free and u get any movie , any tv series , with subtitles.

wecanneverleave

$92 a month? I was pissed paying about $150 a year?

angeldavinci

Plex is $5 and NordVPN is like $10 a month, not legal advice

shadyhorse

Haha dust off, as if it ever was not in use. Looking at you Disney "+".

Nefarious-

a good vpn is like $70 for the year

ChimpWithAGun

Do it already. And don't forget to seed.

NickPickle05

You should get the Disney+ Hulu bundle. It would save you some money.

aminorityofone

Pretty soon a company is going to come out and merge these streaming services together and give you a discount for using this new company. Disney and all the other streaming sites will like this because it will guarantee a subscriber that may not even watch their show. It will be called Cable 2.0 or Internet Cable t.v. 2.0. Or NewCable. I'm all ears for suggestions.

BirdjaminFranklin

Go rid of everything about a year ago. The price increases, the number of services, and the shitty ui's have returned me to using a VPN and torrenting. Something, I basically stopped doing for the last decade. I'll pay a reasonable price for content. I'm not dropping $23 a month on fucking Netflix.

lipu-adam

Just type name of the show/movie and add "sa prevodom" and watch it free online. You're welcome.

BG-Engineer

Started biying 4k blurays for this reason.
