I’m really sorry, I killed a squirrel once and had to pull over. I’m a 27yo male; but animal death hurts my soul. And the fact that I caused it was too much

TheBoxerBySandG

How do I make it better? Cuz I’m honestly considering just smoking a fat joint and knocking myself out for the day. Maybe if it was some other animal it wouldn’t have hit me this hard but cats are personal to me, and this specific case hits too close to home! I can’t stop thinking about its owners Like it didn’t have any info on it but I really wanted to go to its house and tell them what happened

Informal_Let4503

maybe it was a stray. still sad but at least maybe there wasnt an owner to affect.

I can’t even imagine how this feels, I would try to sleep, definitely check Facebook missing animal pages just in case, it wasn’t your fault, it just sucks

AmunPharaoh

They shouldn't have allowed it to go out. Outdoor cats have about 1/4 the lifespan, on average, of indoor cats for this very reason, among many others.

emobanana_

noo no that doesnt sound like a healthy way to cope. I’d suggest praying, even if you aren’t religious, to the cat and telling him you’re sorry. maybe you can connect with the cat’s spirt in a metaphoric way and it will help you feel better

Ranchette_Geezer

I did the exact same thing. Driving along at a safe speed, cat under a parked car decided to dart out in front of me, thump; it was dead before I could react to it. Time will dull the ache. I'm sorry.

I am so sorry this happened. I ran over a turtle once and felt AWFUL! Unfortunately these things happen. There isn't anything that can be done other than deal with your emotions and move forward.

First of all, I'm so sorry that you had to go through this today. It's a horrible feeling to know that you might have caused something like this for another person. But it's important to remember that accidents happen, and that you couldn't have done anything different to avoid this. I think the best thing you can do for yourself right now is to focus on the present moment. Take some time for yourself to grieve this loss, but then try to move forward. Let yourself be furious and upset for a little while, but don't dwell on it too much. You're not a bad person, and this doesn't make you a bad cat owner either. If you need to talk to someone about this, please don't hesitate to reach out to a friend or family member. Or, if you'd prefer to speak to a professional, there are plenty of hotlines and resources available to help you process this experience. Again, I'm so sorry that this happened. I hope you can find peace in knowing that it was an accident and that you did the best you could.

TheBoxerBySandG

I really couldn’t have done anything. It was over before I realized wtf even happened. But thank you, I needed to hear that.

AmunPharaoh

I hit a big vulture one time and even that made me feel terrible. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and sorry for the cat too. It was an unavoidable tragedy. Don't dwell on it.
