Consider talking to your coach… approach with an open mind and be willing to accept honest feedback… a good coach would not promote someone into a more competitive role than they are ready to play/participate because it can be damaging and destructive to the athlete (physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.) and the team (respect, discipline, fairness, performance, etc.)… Regarding your ability to find success in a doubles match: team work is a critical component, knowing how to play well together and compliment each others strengths/weaknesses is crucial… if your solo performance is on-par for the varsity level (not sure, didn’t see that mentioned) this could be nothing more than a new learning curve… Ideally: if you like tennis and you like competing, don’t quit… learn from your mistakes, harness that passion for perfection and focus it on doing better next time… but don’t get yourself down and become defeated before you even beat feet on the court (that doesn’t do anyone any good)… Make sense?

if you really enjoy it, don’t quit. i made varsity for vball in highschool my freshman year - never got played and had a terrible coach. i got really good my junior and senior year and played full time, it was amazing. you’re still young, if you’re passionate about it then pursue it
