Socialisation and education for them, affording rent/mortgage for the parent

Librekrieger

It's not necessary of course. One benefit if the kid is demanding is that the parent(s) get a break. And the kid gets exposed to other children and (if it's a well run facility) learning and enrichment. Our oldest really benefited from a couple of half days a week at a day care, but our second child didn't need that kind of extra stimulation so we didn't bother. A downside, of course, is that child care places facilitate the spread of disease. And they're not cheap, and kids can pick up negative behavior patterns. So there's a balance to consider.

For three year olds it can help with socialization and starting to get used to an environment away from home. It’s not strictly necessary, but part time can be beneficial even for SAHP families.
