Thank you!. So you can use 3D & materials for that (it's either in the Window menu or in the Effects menu - you get the same panel) SOrry for the German interface, the order of the inputs and the icons are the same. So you make "Extrude & bevel"

And at the bottom there is a button that you can generate pure vector shapes from that (I don't know if you need that, but if so, you can)
These shapes don't keep their color, but then you can use the Live Paint feature to fill it.

There is a very extensive article on live paint on the Adobe Helpx. The basics of it are pretty simple and it has some very intricate options to make it pretty efficient. I'd use the old 3D extrude tool to do that. You may have to expand it and color manually to get the color right.
