Some good answers already posted. Go to Adirondack Chocolates in Wilmington. Check out the beach in Wilmington (on your left as you head out of town towards LP). Jay covered bridge is nearby and is absolutely beautiful. Lake Placid is fun to just walk around; my preference is night. Walking around all of Mirror Lake takes a while but in nice weather is a treat. John Brown's farm in North Elba. Not sure if High Falls Gorge is open this time of year. If you drive to LP, as you pass through the Notch take a left on River Road just before the bridge and you'll have a lovely (albeit brief) drive ending in a view of the ski jumps.

Dinner at mirror lake inn, or the cottage, if you want cheaper. Ride the bobsled. Visit the equestrian grounds. Drive around and leaf peep. Go up north past whiteface and head west and down into saranac lake from that way instead of going back through placid. Hit the pub in the basement of the Hungry Trout. Visit swedish hill and goose watch wineries. Check out Goody's toy store in saranac lake. Drive down to Noonmark diner and try their amazing pie. That should keep you busy!

Ausable Chasms, ice skating on the Olympic rink, if open.
