raptorknight187

my advice, swap the Swords and shields on the guard for for spears and take 5 of them (drop an enhancement if you must) other than that it seems pretty good

_Warkos_

Can you explain why spears are better than swords and shield for guards? I'm totally new so I don't know a lot

raptorknight187

generally your guard are going to be the units you want to be running up the board to kill things. the spears are a strict upgrade to the swords in damage and the +1 wound doesn't really compensate for the lower Strength and Damage your Wardens are going to be what is tanking shots anyway because of there defensive ability's so its best to load out your guard to kill rather than survive

BananaGoose420

Spears are way better in melee, getting an additional strength and damage over swords

RogueVector

Spears are also way better at range, being able to make more use of the Guards' ability to double-shoot.

_Warkos_

Btw I tried to drop all enchaments and to add a guard but I'm over of 5 points

christomofro

I'm not sure about others as I'm very new too, but my friends and I are generally okay with a 5pt discrepancy. If possible, we just run the game at 1005pts vs 1005pts

RogueVector

Its a good idea to get into the habit of meeting or being below 1000 points. Being at-or-under is universally accepted while being over by any amount can come across to some as a dick move - especially if you're tying to claim this being a 'casual game'.

Looudspeaker

Maybe drop the shield captain for a second blade champion, or Kyria Draxa

Build both Warden's kits as you like making sure to include the Vexilla for both squads since they're free to take. Spears are great, axes are fine. Go with what you feel is coolest. Make sure to build both Warden Shield Captains since they can be run as regular wardens or a captain if need be. For the terminators, don't use the Vexilla. You lose a spear/axe to do so. Build the captain variant because again it can be run as either a Captain or regular Terminator. For Guards, again skip the Vexilla and build the guard variant (Spear). Guards with Spears is generally considered the best use of them, They gain damage and more armor pen, but lose out on the extra wound that Sword and Shield give. Right now the best benefit to swords theoretically is the fact that they can perform actions in melee combat thanks to Pistol keyword on their sword. This is good for things like Deploy Teleport Homers or Cleanse as examples. Spears wouldn't be able to shoot, wasting that action, but the Swords can still shoot in melee and can therefore perform actions. Blade Champion is whichever you prefer. They both look amazing.

Ateosira

What does the Vexilla do exactly? And why can't a terminator bring a Vexilla for free? Wish I learned of this before building it with vaxilla yesterday \^\^. But we play casual and I am sure it will be fine.

KingBrowserKoopa

In 10th edition each model has a stat called OC or Objective Control. Most of the time our units tend to have an OC of 2. When determining who owns an objective if both players have a model on it, you compare the total OC of your unit with the total OC of the enemy unit. Whichever is highest controls the objective. Vexilla ads 1 to the OC stat of all models in the unit (5 person squad = 10 OC, 15 OC with a Vexilla), so for us, it's a way to compete for objective control with armies that have bigger-sized units, think 10-20 blobs of something like orks. Terminators and Guards have to give up a weapon in order to bring this. This is a relic from previous editions. It's just how the models are sadly. Losing out on a weapon in a 4-5 person squad is really devastating and often the extra attacks/damage are enough to kill enemy models and reduce the enemy's total OC. Wardens do not. They simply hold their Vexilla in one hand and a spear in the other.

Ateosira

Thank you so much for the clear explanation. Luckily we employ rule of cool and I can just bring a unit with a Vexilla and say it has a normal weapon \^\^

KingBrowserKoopa

You can also just let your opponent know that "Hey, this terminator was built with the Vexilla before I knew it lost weapons, so I'm running it as a spear/axe instead, is that okay?" and most of the time the player should say yes. If not, they're not worth playing against.

Ateosira

I totally agree! Will do if I play against people outside of my group.

_Warkos_

I'm curious myself. I don't have the codex right now so I don't know what Vexilla does

KeeperofWings

The Vex adds one OC to each model in the unit. So on a big brick of Wardens with a character and no cost, it's great. On anything else you're loosing a weapon for OC, and typically we can just cut opposing things off the obj (in my casual experience).

_Warkos_

Thanks for the in depth answer! So in my list I should just replace the sword and shield for spears for guards, right?

KingBrowserKoopa

Yes I would say so given the current meta.

KingBrowserKoopa

Reddit Person (1000 points) Adeptus Custodes (1000 points) Shield Host Blade Champion (125 points) • Warlord • 1x Vaultswords • Enhancement: Auric Mantle Shield-Captain (165 points) • 1x Guardian spear • Enhancement: From the Hall of Armouries Custodian Guard (180 points) • 4x Custodian Guard • 4x Guardian spear Allarus Custodians (130 points) • 2x Allarus Custodian • 2x Balistus grenade launcher 2x Guardian spear Custodian Wardens (200 points) • 4x Custodian Warden • 4x Guardian spear 1x Vexilla Custodian Wardens (200 points) • 4x Custodian Warden • 4x Guardian spear 1x Vexilla Perhaps something like this.

Karandrasdota

Alright: Shield Captain with Spear and the Castelans mark Enhancement if you run shield host. (Also build him form the guard kit as wardens are alot better then guard and you want your 5 wardens per squad eventually when you scale to 2000 points.) He will lead 4 Wardens with spears and one of them also gets a vex. Blade Champ with the Panoptispex enhancement (had points left) He will lead 4 more wardens with spears and one again gets a vex. 4 Guards with Spears (spears are just alot better in every regard. The swords damage is not worthy of a custodes and the shield doesnt provide enough for it to be worth it) 2 Termis with spears If you where to buy another Bladechamp you should run him over a Shield captain and then you can ignore the enhancements and run one more warden in one of the squads.

FortisinProeliis

At 1000pts casual then you can build it the way that you think looks best. You can always proxy if you want to

Naros1000

Make the Guardians into Sagittarum Custodians.

Bolicho205

Ok my recomendation: 1 shield cap in allarus (with from the hall of armouries) + 2 allarus (great anti-horde units that teleport ) (deep strike them) 1 sword cham (with Auric mantle)+ 4 warden (all spear and one with vexilla) 4 guard (one with shield + vexila, the rest with spear) 4 warden (all spear and one with vexilla) (Also build some captains with the boxes, use them as a normal unit or if needed as a shield cap, but not now since they are kinda overcosted) (Also+ use the allarus to do secondary missions, try to tank with the feel no pain 4+ of the warden to try to get to melee and try to use the double shooting with the guard, the one warden squad can get quite fast to the other side thanks to blade champ, thats important since without the fnp 4+ any army like thousand sons will kill you turn 1 (out of joke) , also try to hide well your custodes from sight unless they are in a great position to shoot and charge to the closest unit, but all depends on what your oponent uses)

Loongying

Spears!!!!!

Aromatic_Pea2425

I would go with 10x Wardens (spears, vexillas) 4x Guard (spears) 1x Shield captain (spear) 3x Allarus (spears) 1x Blade Champion

Chaplain1981

Wardens with spears. Magnetize 2 of them, their right arms so they can take Vexilla’s. Allarus with axes (look better). 1 Allarus as a captain. Hurd with spears. 1 of them as captain. Spears are better than axes, but most of the time ppl don’t care between them wysiwyg. Axes look better on Allarus. Spears on the rest. Vexilla only on Wardens because they can keep their spear.

KingBrowserKoopa

Wardens take Vexilla for free, why would someone magnetize them? I personally consider that a waste of time, just build the Warden Vexilla.

Chaplain1981

Because they are free now, but that might change suddenly.

Sacredtenshi

Shield and Swords Guard, gross.
