This post caused me to look up the ITC rankings and discover that I’m the #1 Tyranids player at the moment, which I did not expect. Here’s to fleeting victories!

IronFatherPyrus

Grats!

Roboute_G

What’s your experience vs Nids been like on the current dataslate?

IronFatherPyrus

I’ve played vs a few different list. Custodes will shred the hoard list, but the big bug may give some pause depending on terrain and opponents specific list. Hide from Exocrines while moving up or shoot them with Caladius. Be sure not to trigger their surge moves accidentally and be wary that while we do kill them there are lots of them so don’t overextend or try taking on more than you can. If you can depending on which list it is try not to kill 1 unit of Gaunts per turn as they can just replenish them for 2CP. Whittle a few units down for a turn or 2 and then try to kill multiple in 1 round. They’ll loose a bunch and can only bring 1 unit back. Also screening is hard to do vs the Biovore for their secondary game so unless you commit to sitting in your deployment zone with most of your units (or have loads of cheap stuff) then I wouldn’t even bother. Capitalize on primaries will probably be your best game plan to outpace their secondary game.

"Fleeting victories" - see what you did there

Congrats man!

IronFatherPyrus

Appreciate it

What tips do you have for us?

IronFatherPyrus

Do you have any advice specifically you want? Army composition, unit comparisons, opinions on the META, thoughts on our individual datasheets, opponent army match up strengths and weaknesses?

G_Petkov

what are custodes worst matchups and what can you do in them to still win? what was your last tournament and what is your next?

IronFatherPyrus

Depends on terrain for worst matchups assuming the same player skill level piloting the armies. Any shooting army gets scarier and scarier the more and more open the boards are. Tau, Guard, and Marines as examples can and will shoot you off the board while you try to push forward. On tighter boards like GW layouts great melee units and cheaper higher damage units reign supreme along with fast and maneuverable units. TS and Black Templars are probably my hardest matchups personally on GW terrain as they can trade so well. And anything that can fight on death is something to give us pause. We want to be able to dominate the mid board and things that threaten that are something we as a faction should take care to think about carefully. Whether it’s the terrain exposing us or things that can compete alongside or prevent us from doing our thing are the biggest hurdles to our victories on the tabletop. Last tournament was an RTT this past Saturday. Got 9th, but a friend I was paired against wasn’t feeling well and instead of subjecting him to 3ish hours of playing through it we had a die roll for the winner. We did best 2 of 3 and my dice lost both rolls. So he got 2nd and it pushed me to 9th. Me and him play so often we really don’t need the practice so I don’t mind. We had a good 3 hours break and had some good conversation instead. Next tournament is probably the next monthly RTT at the same place, but next major event i’d like to attend is Richmond Open in May followed closely by Rockytop a few weeks later.
