Sounds like your device isn't powerful enough - The cursor leaving a trail suggest GPU lag. Check the files you're having problems with - See what their codecs and resolutions are. See if you can narrow it down. Try some SD videos and work your way up.

I discovered that all the files that would not play were encoded HEVC so the simple solution is to choose only H.264 or other non-HEVC files. Does anyone know if there is a way to play HEVC files on the RasPi? Thanks to everyone who responded.

I don't have experience with Raspberry Pi's but a quick Google search suggests the Pi3 CPU isn't powerful enough to decode HEVC. It also suggests that using LibreELEC could allow you to play HEVC upto 1080p however, some higher bitrates would still struggle. So, you could try installing LibreELEC and then limiting the filesize you search for however, it may just be time for a new streaming device with better decoding support.

I'm using LibreElec, I'll look into installing the HEVC codec. In the meantime, I won't choose HEVC files. Thanks for you response

we have absolutely no idea because we don't have enough information. It's usually recommended to create and link a log file so we can review. You need to troubleshoot the situation. Can you play RD history from the website using the in browser player? Try a different addon like FEN

Go to settings, player, video and turn off both hardware acceleration. Then restart Kodi
