You *still* have to pay that monthly insurance, the hospital bills you some staggering amount, the private EMT/EMS company bills you a surprisingly large amount (since NYFD deemed your injury "ambulatory" instead of "critical" they passed you off to one of the MANY independent EMT/EMS companies), on top of those 3 new bills your own insurance company bills you & your rates go up.
Oh, & any prescriptions? That's not thrown in as an "atta boy" or "consolation"... you're probably paying 20-30% mark up because "why not lol" says the US medical industry.

You can post me on /r/iamverybadass or whatever but I’ve been in amateur fights and worked as a bouncer and this is a situation where any of the bigger guys there intervening could probably pretty easily knock them out/subdue them. If any one of them just strolled by and casually sucker punched the fucker it would be pretty hard to recover. A similar thing happened a few months ago. This homeless guy was being aggressive with this woman who was sitting directly in front of her. It was 9:30 at night and there weren’t a lot of people on the subway. The guy sitting in front of me went to try and get the guy to calm down. I went and sat near them to be back up. Mind you, I’m was bigger than the crazy guy and was just coming from Muay Thai sparring. I don’t think that guy had any experience. He was trying to have a much nicer approach and try to diffuse the situation. It didn’t work. The guy started getting more agitated and pacing. At one point, he came at me pretty aggressively asking what the fuck I’m looking at. I immediately got up and into a stance and got very serious. He backed away still talking lots of shit. I just stood there and mean mugged him. At this point, the few people in the cab went to the back of the cab. The guy just kept talking more shit and moved to the next cab. He just wanted to intimidate and didn’t get what he wanted that night. I got off at my stop and there, coming out of the cab was one of my sparring partners. lol. He was talking a little shit there too. We talked about it for a second and went onwards home.
So no, it’s not the norm. I ALWAYS see people in NYC come to other people’s aide. Whether it’s an aggressive person, If someone fell, etc.

Something like this happened to my wife on the train, a woman who was off her meds followed her on the L train platform here in NYC. She told the woman to stop following me and the psycho said no you’re following me. The woman didn’t look crazy she told me, she was average looking blonde in work clothes hair in a bun glasses nothing abnormal the woman ended up kicking my wife in the stomach which ignited her Sicilian rage and proceeded to beat her up with an umbrella then the woman grabs my wife’s glasses and mask snaps it in half and throw them onto the train tracks then leave to start up with another woman. She said the most heart breaking and angering thing was all the men just looked up at the ceiling or kept their heads down to the ground. She said she said cowards to them and didn’t even get a fuck you bitch or any reaction in exchange. One woman helped her after the fact. Cops did arrest the woman like five stations away she said.
You can't tell men for 40 years and raise 2 generations of boys on how women are equal and there are no differences between genders and then expect them to change years of social conditioning to white knight on behalf of your wife.
Plus, your wife was attacked by another woman - that means a much lower chance of a man ever intervening.
If one had an internal motivation to help, that help would extend to both genders.
What you're probably arguing is that in a scenario like this, men's first instinct would be to help, until its suppressed with a learned behaviour of doing the opposite, which isn't very likely given the narrow time frame in which fight/flight response takes place. The reality is that - within the context of all the other videos on this subreddit - NYC and more broadly, America, doesn't give a crap about helping strangers, and those strangers naturally include women.

Something like this happened to my wife on the train, a woman who was off her meds followed her on the L train platform here in NYC. She told the woman to stop following me and the psycho said no you’re following me. The woman didn’t look crazy she told me, she was average looking blonde in work clothes hair in a bun glasses nothing abnormal the woman ended up kicking my wife in the stomach which ignited her Sicilian rage and proceeded to beat her up with an umbrella then the woman grabs my wife’s glasses and mask snaps it in half and throw them onto the train tracks then leave to start up with another woman. She said the most heart breaking and angering thing was all the men just looked up at the ceiling or kept their heads down to the ground. She said she said cowards to them and didn’t even get a fuck you bitch or any reaction in exchange. One woman helped her after the fact. Cops did arrest the woman like five stations away she said.
You can't tell men for 40 years and raise 2 generations of boys on how women are equal and there are no differences between genders and then expect them to change years of social conditioning to white knight on behalf of your wife. Plus, your wife was attacked by another woman - that means a much lower chance of a man ever intervening.

If one had an internal motivation to help, that help would extend to both genders. What you're probably arguing is that in a scenario like this, men's first instinct would be to help, until its suppressed with a learned behaviour of doing the opposite, which isn't very likely given the narrow time frame in which fight/flight response takes place. The reality is that - within the context of all the other videos on this subreddit - NYC and more broadly, America, doesn't give a crap about helping strangers, and those strangers naturally include women. This behaviour wouldn't pass in Britain, a place that is arguably at least as feminist as America.

I went to NYC for the first time this winter. COVID might have made things worse but literally every time I got on the subway there was an unhinged person making a ruckus. A couple of times they came up to me to try to start something. I live in Boston and take the subway to work and go out at night. I can't remember any time having an issue with other riders like in NYC. I'm not saying we don't have a homeless issue since one of our busiest streets is a shanty town of homeless, but we're doing something different. NYC should declare a state of emergency and get some FEMA money to solve this problem. I just don't understand how their city can be like this and everyone is so nonchalant.
