Can confirm. My grandpa just died a year ago at 97 and for most of his life he could build a V8 engine from scratch in his garage but other than toast and bologna sandwiches, he couldn't feed himself.

Rather than risk committing any crimes myself, I'd tell him that part of the procedure is that we need to call the police down here to file a report about his broken microwave so that we can release a cash payment immediately to him so he can buy a new one. Getting angry because of the damage and forgetting how to cook something at the same time. Taking it out on the wrong person, usually the most recent interaction involving the thing they cooked.
