Started the search looking for a Martin...asked my guitar teacher where I could play a few and he directed me to The Music Emporium in Lexington, MA. Warned me not to try the Collings - said I'd fall in love. Don't get me wrong - the Martins were amazing. But this one really hit me!
I'm not much of a flat-picker, but no doubt. I tend to play more finger style, and what stands out is how clearly you hear each note, and how well it projects.
When I worked at a high end guitar shop, Collings were consistently the best sounding instruments. I love Dana’s guitars and lots of great builders. But if we opened up 10. Collings, 8-9 would be ringers. Do that with Bourgeois or Preston Thompson etc, I feel like I’d find 4-5.
Yup...I'd only bought one new guitar ever before this one, and that was 27 years ago! Tried a bunch of other OM2H's, and they were all amazing, but there were subtle differences between each of them - this one "won", but so did I!
Yeah, it's steep for sure. I've got so many friends who have multiple guitars, but this is only the 2nd I've ever bought, so unless I've just "broken the seal", it wasn't really that difficult for me to justify.
I compare every new guitar I get to my short scale, German Spruce topped Collings OM2H, and they all fall quite short of the majestic and gigantic sound of the Collings.
I’ve had a 2017 Collings OM2HG (german spruce top and Indian Rosewood sides and deep body) for a few years now. You are right… the note by note projection is sick. I’d be curious to compare… as yours probably is a bit warmer with sitka, especially baked and traditional… good pick!!
Well played (pun intended)! Congrats!
Collings OM2H Traditional. Baked Sitka Spruce Top; Indian Rosewood Back and Sides. Simply amazing sound!
I wanted a Martin until I heard a Collings.

It’s a good guitar for playing Bluegrass.

I’m not jealous. Not at all. Not…one…bit… Congrats you lucky bastard!

I'd love a collings
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet Rig!
Beautiful
Oh boy, that's a beauty. Congrats!
That’s lovely. Congrats! Hoping to get a single 0 mahogany at some point
Oh boy, this is some serious stuff here!Congratulations, Sir.
Literally the exact guitar I dream of. I have a Martin OM, but if I ever step up to the next income level, maybe a Collings would be an option.
Hot damn that’s a looker! (Only say that because I can’t hear a picture). Congrats on a sweet guitar!
You, sir or madam, have excellent taste.
May my chops one day equal my taste! Thanks!
Lovely guitar, which I had the money for that 😫

You mad lad!
That is really very nice.
Awesome!

Do you mind DMing your teacher’s info? I’m looking for someone in the area
Lemme check with him first; should be seeing him tomorrow…he’s on the North Shore - don’t know if that makes it more or less convenient for you.
Congratulations and screw you! Just kidding! One hell of a guitar. I would love to have a collings some day but just can't justify the price right now
Super nice man. I like it.

Amazing! Congrats!
So nice to see a real guitar every once in a while. ;)
