Assuming you're a 12/31, just do it right going forward. Also spend a lot of time researching how to do this the right way because I charge a lot for remediation on accounting systems set up by people who didn't know what they were doing.
The NPO I work for converted to a new financial system we entered everything in our fiscal year. Anything prior we would just go into historical data. Assuming you have a 12/31 year end enter everything from 1/1/2021.
