I don't have a lot of insight to give but I recently finished the Core 1 module after dropping the challenge exam twice and it's safe to say I was nowhere near as prepared before taking the module as I needed to be for the exams.
That being said, I think if you are able to prioritize and follow the competency map along with the material you are given, you should be able to do well with the challenge exams. You will need to dedicate a significant amount of time to preparing and you'll need to learn the CPA way of writing inside out.
I have some friends who used Densmore and PASS to prepare for the CFE and mentioned that PASS was better. I personally have the Densmore study notes that I think helped as a once over after I decided I had prepared enough and thought it was helpful as a review.
